Okay, my idea in-thread got a lot of yays, so let me outline it here.
Basically, the shops which are both awesome but little-known should get the "prime" spots- aka, first page. After all, if (for example) Soquili took part, everyone would know them and check out their post, even if it's on page five!
So, my idea is for every shop to be rated- between one and, say, ten. Then each owner will have to be TOTALLY honest and give themselves a popularity score, which is deducted from their awesome score.
For example, a shop where all the FS pets go straight away would have a high popularity score; as would one where their auctions are often AB'd by none-regulars, or their raffles have a huge variety of participants, or their free events go massively popular.
A shop which has only the friends of the staff (and the staff themselves) taking part in most events and sales would have a very low score.
This should mean that the shops most deserving of being seen- but rarely get recognition- will be in the "prime" spots, and therefore getting more limelight.
What are your thoughts? Any other ideas on how to implement this?

I do think this idea has a lot of merit to it. It'd give a step up for shops who are rather obscure but are just as good as anywhere else.
As of right now.. Hyrea has it laid out so that on the front page are 4 posts with each post having a little blurb about 10 shops... or something like that... have you gone to see that?

I'm curious how that would work for relatively newer shops (like just opened up within a month or two). It's a bit hard to judge or score something that hasn't been opened very long. And even though I'm one of the new shops present, I believe lesser know established shops should get priority (since the new shops may gain popularity in their own time!).
Just wondering how you'd go about this :3

I have concerns on rating shops, since a lot of that is based on opinions and such, and I can see some people feeling hurt because their shop was placed in a certain spot. What one eprson likes and thinks is awesome might not be someone else's, etc.
Honestly the best way to prevent issues is alphabetizing, and maybe giving some blubs straight up ebfore you start browsing the shops (like a post maybe devoted to explaining each shop so people can see what shops there are and find ones that sound interesting - what sort of pet is it, would it appeal to X or Y animal lover types or such, and a feel for the theme since that's also an attraction.)
The blurb post sounds like a decent idea overall no matter the 'ordering' -- that way people can preview the SHOPS firsthand, and then scout the pets themselves further down. So ALL shops have a chance of getting attention based solely on HOPEFULLY people checking out the shop listing (or maybe seeing it there and then looking closer at the shop no matter where it ends up).

Yeah. After some chittering with a pal, I was also thinking. The whole idea of this event is to bring people together. If we reward for popularity or punish because of it.. Either way, that could result in some shops not wanting to participate. It's not fun or conducive to make anyone feel better or worse than anyone else.
Since most shops if not all will ALL be on the front page... Then.. The way we put them up doesn't have to be at all done that way. I'm sure there are many ways we can assign shops to the posts that is either random.. and give everyone equal opportunity.
It has to be equal and fair to everyone... because this event is about EVERYONE.. not just the obscure and lesser known people. This event is here to bring us together liek that scandal did.

Hate to double post but I ahd another thought and wanted it seperate from the above:
On order, I had a though too -- why should we play favorites to lesser known shops over others? (Aside the subjective tastes and all - since newer shops are still kind of the grey area...)
This is about Breedables Unity... and the idea of ordering based on popularity does kind of go against that grain. (Mind my shops are not uber popular always flocked at 24/7...) Everyone should be on equal footing and have a fair chance, be they more popular or not. Just ebcause they're popular doens't mean they ought to be pushed to the back so people have to see other lesser known shops first. If they're there cause of something more popular... well that's that.
I DO think the blurb deal could easily help people notice more shops which aren't as noticed, but sorting based on anything subjective or based on popularity or the lack thereof (well, knownness perhaps is better wording) but...
...this IS about Unity. Not just getting shops noticed, but about actual unity I thought, so... we SHOULD try to just be united without making differences on various things.
Sorting alphabetically, or perhaps by the event types themselves might help, and mix up what in what event is where to spread out known and lesser knowns could easily help that.

i believe that in the end the shops will be sorted sorted alphabetically and all of them will have information as well as links to them in the first page.. like grace and mintaka said before, this event is about unity and not popularity.... heart

But for alphabetically, my shop doesn't quite have a name yet. xDDDD I think that they should be rated by customers ONLY, so that owners don't lie, but maybe they PM it to a mule or something to prevent hurt feelings?
