Jua (Polette)

The sun bore down on Jua's coat; he never likes days like these. Hot, humid. It brought out the overly lazy side in him. He looked around-- nothing. It was boring, and his siblings were off doing other things. He decided that he would go out today, despite his lazy self, and explore.

Shubanu (Kaori_luv)

Shubanu sat at the water hole, bathing herself her head scarf wrapped gently around her head, protecting her head from the harsh sun. She used at little water as possible knowing it could be hot and dry for days and she did not wish to waste the water. She silently wondered where her siblings were and what they were doing, but being juveniles now they all began to move about more freely. Not really feeling the need to be with their mother all the time. Shu was no different, she did any duties that were asked of her and then she went off to enjoy her day.

It seemed to stand out amongst the dry look of the savannah. Even against the water. For some reason, it elluded Jua, and he couldn't make his brain work enough to figure out what he was looking at, exactly.

On the one day where he had wandered out without his twin, he decided to go towards some water. It tended to have more shade than most areas, and it fueled his lazy habit of sleeping in the shade.

Trotting closer, he soon realized that it was of his own species, but the excitement hadn't dulled. It was the first girl other than his sisters he'd ever seen.

"Hi." in a soft voice, Jua's comment was barely audible, but it had a slight echo that carried it.

Shu turned slowly, her gray eyes landing on the bright creature headed towards her. She smiled slightly. "Hello," she said he voice gentle and soft. She moved over slightly, "I was just finishing up. The water is all your, if you'd like."

Shu kept her tone gentle and her smile friendly showing she was not a threat and his presence was not unwelcome. “It is a rather hot and sticky day,” she said casually.

"It....is" Jua glanced at the water, then back at the covered dog. While he was thirsty, this conversation seemed like it'd be more interesting.

"I'm Jua!" he blurted suddenly. He hadn't meaned to introduce himself, at least not like that. "Sorry, I didn't mean to yell." he started to laugh nervously; this was a whole new thing, like talking to an alien. Cause his sisters were just like boys, so they didn't count.

Shu's eyes went slightly wide when he shouted his greeting not, entirely sure why the other had yelled. However, when he apologized Shu simple smiled. "It's okay. My name is Shubanu. Its very nice to meet you Jua. I was just having a bath to get myself clean, as well as cooler."

She moved toward Jua and sat beside him gray eyes taking in the other's bright features, “What brings you here?”

"Good." Jua squeezed his eyes together for a moment, thinking of how that situation could have gone better. "You seem really proper and nice." he hadn't heard someone talk so highly before, being from a bigger family, they just didn't do that where his family was from. It was nice though, to hear the difference.

"I was just looking for some shade, really." he glanced around, looking at any available trees with shade. "I don't really like the sun too much, so I try to stay out of it as much as possible."

Shu blinked and grinned, she knew she was rather proper, but she could not really say the same for her siblings, although they were all good pups. "Thank you," she said smiling. She felt very grown up when she spoke properly and she enjoyed being polite.

When Jua stated he wanted some shade, Shu looked back to where she come from. She knew there were some nice shady trees close to were her family was staying and she thought she could enjoy a few moments in the cool shade. “There are some nice shady tree, not to far off. I could show you if you like.”

"Oh?" it seemed strange, following a girl around, but fun at the same time. He could finally see into a different world. At least, one that didn't involve his orange and brown family.

"So you really live around here?" Jua avoided looking at Shubanu; it just seemed too awkward to look at her. It was as if they -- he -- was doing something bad by following her. "I had to walk a bit to get to the water hole, so I don't live anywhere around here." he let out a small laugh, covering his anxiety.

Shu smiled and stood, "Yes", she said. She motioned for Jua to follow her and headed off in the direction of the tree. When she asked if she lived around here, she nodded. "We live just few moment away past the tree. Its not far, a very short walk actually. Quite worth it too, as the trees branches are very leafy. They make a lot of shade." She did not really notice that he looked not at her, but instead anywhere.

"That sounds nice. Maybe I should come live here instead." Jua thought of his own dry dwelling, out in the middle of the savannah, surrounded by heat and hotness and heat. He was hardly ever at the den due to this fact, actually. "Do you like all the trees? They're really pretty." his eyes softened a bit, glancing at the ground.

Shu giggled slightly at Jua mention of living near her home. It was nice, even if you had to walk a bit to the water hole. It was hot, but there was a reprieve from the heat in the shade of the trees and Shu enjoyed it. Shu once again turned gray eyes on Jua and grinned, "Yes I like the trees. They keep me cool and sometimes they have monkey's in them. Monkey's can be very funny. Tree are pretty, they make neat shadows and some have flowers which are very nice to look at." Shu continued to move foward as she spoke and it was not long before the trees came into view, large and shady just as she mentioned.

"Monkeys?" although he had heard of them, Jua had never figured out exactly what that creature was. His expression became amazed and black all at once -- this girl seemed to have a magical life! His seemed so dull in comparison now.

Seeing the encroaching treeline, Jua's tail began to wag excessively. It was like going to a far off castle, where Shu was the princess and he was --

Well, he couldn't be the prince, of course, cause that would insinuate that he liked her, which he didn't --

Well, as a friend he did, so he would be more like the stable boy or something, just accompanying her or something.

Thoughts seemed to rush through his head at lightning speed; the excitement of it all just cluttered his mind, and it was hard to think, so he just trotted on, nodding his head to whatever Shu said, trying to pay attention as best he could.

“Yeah monkeys,” Shu said excitedly, “though it not fun if they decide to throw things at you.” Shu looked in front of her and as the tree were pretty close she decided she'd like to get their quicker. She stopped and turned to Jua. “We are almost there, how about a race. Bet I can beat you.”

Shu did not wait for answer, but quickly took off, now much faster on her now slightly longer legs, running gracefully toward the trees. She laughed happily feeling free, loving the feeling of the wind blowing across her fur and into her headdress.

It took a second to realize that a girl had just challenged him to a race. Should he let her win? Should he win and look all superior? The main thing he needed to think about, however, was just running to catch up to Shu. He had underestimated her; or maybe he was just really out of shape. Or both.

Running in a deer-like fashion, Jua bounded throuh the grass, trying his hardest to catch up to Shu. He became exhausted very quickly, but strained himself so he wouldn't look really weak in front of her.
