Name: Hallison Age: 17 Sex: Male Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual Craft: N/A Rank: N/A
Physical Description: A large lad at 6'4", Hallison does not tower over all boys his age, but between his imposing young muscles and ponderous movement, he often appears larger then he really is. His mouse brown hair is wispy and ill kept, and when his mother remembers, she cut's it down to a rider-like crew cut, which only serves to accentuate his hard chiseled features. His eyes are nothing to lose yourself in, though it is impossible to detect dishonestly or guile within them. Oftentimes his wide set brown eyes have been compared to those of a loyal woodscanine, or a well bred riding runner. He has kept his body in shape despite his size, and is often used by the women of the lower caverns as a sort of pack horse when they need to shuffle around the larger kettles and heavier furniture.
Personality: Hallison may at first appear a tough nut to crack, since he chooses to remain silent most of the time, but the truth of it is that he only says exactly what he wants to say when he wants to say it. There is no give or take with this boy, at least not in matters relating to justice or duty. Even his enemies among the Weyr bully boys will admit that you will never catch him in a lie, even if it means innumerable stripes across his back by the authorities. He would rather receive punishment then turn in a comrade, even if that comrade is the one supposed to be punished. This steadfast and dependable behavior has earned him a small group of loyal friends in return. This is not to say that he would not gainsay a comrade that has done wrong, merely that he will not willfully turn that comrade for punishment if he is the one singled out. Despite that, there is only one thing that could force him to renounce a comrade, and this is if that friend committed a heinous act beyond any form of reconciliation. To that end, his deeply rooted sense of right and wrong would step up to the plate, and he would force himself to cast aside a friendship in favoring of upholding his own basic moral integrity. That way of thinking also translates to a larger group environment, wherein he would either refuse to participate in minor unsavory disturbances, or renounce them all and report them to the higher-ups. Unfortunately, just because he is guileless does not mean he is immune to it's effects. He falls for pranks often, with the dirtier ones being the easiest to catch him in. When asked why he didn't see a particularly nasty one coming, his only response is that he didn't think the prankster would go through with it. Only time will tell if Hallison will outgrow his childhood naivety, since he is certainly not lacking in the intelligence department.
History: Trying to understand why Hallison is the way he is reminds the inquirer of pulling teeth. His history was not necessarily a traumatic or dramatic one, but he certainly saw his fair share of injustices visited upon his weyrfolk kin. His mother was a simple holdwoman turned drudge among the kitchen staff, and his father was an unknown brownrider a little too far gone into his wine. These days he is hard pressed to even discuss his blood parentage, mostly since he was fostered early on and considers his foster mother to be his true mother. Some think he might actually be ashamed of his parentage, and maybe even a little angry at his father for being so weak to be a slave to alcohol, but Hallison never substantiates such rumors.
His foster mother is a giant of a assistant cook among the kitchen staff, though at the time she was fostering Hallison as a youngster, she was a lowly undercook. Her time may have mostly been spent in the kitchens, but she brought Hallison with her as soon as he could toddle, and between herself and the rest of the women of the kitchens, he was well looked after growing up.
Once he was big enough to be put to work, he quickly found his niche with the other male drudges, fetching and carrying as need be, along with restocking the kitchen pantry from Stores when needed. Around that time was when he met little Demitarnin, the small boy was being picked on by a group of bigger weyrbrats, and Hallison (though not much larger then the older boys) pretty much roared in with his fists flying and scattered them. Surprise was on his side, though he scared little Demi pretty bad while he was at it, but the bully boys never stopped running until they were out of sight. Encouraged by his apparent success, he pulled the smaller boy to his feet and dragged him back to the kitchens for 'safe-keeping,' lest the bully boys return. Demitarnin did not have much say in the matter, but the youngster was quick of wit and was pleased to discover his new 'friend' was something like a portable buffer against the bullies that had been tormenting him. The two eventually became inseparable, and Hallison acquired something of a mischievous reputation since between them, he was always the one actually seen skulking about between pranks.
During one of said pranks (against the very same bully boys) the pair came across Lesifol. Lesi, as he preferred to be called, was something unlike any other boy in the weyr. He enjoyed the company of girls (for starters) liked to let them braid his hair (which it had been when the others had found him) and he had a bad habit of taunting the ones who taunted him. Since he was very slight and effeminate, Lesi never got out of those taunting matches unscathed, and it was one of those matches that Hallison and Demi interrupted when they attempted to toss old baskets of stinky firestone ash at their arch nemeses. Naturally, Hallison noticed right away that the group of arguing boys only had one target, and before they could even launch their attack, he dove right in to grab the slender youth after one of the bully's threw a punch. Demi was scandalized (since he didn't have much thought for a 'useless' scamp like Lesi) but he couldn't stop Hallison from 'doing what was right.'
Lesifol was not necessarily pleased by their methods, and he let his two 'rescuers' know that in no uncertain terms, but he was thankful. Demi and Lesi did not get along very well at the get go, but the pair couldn't argue the fact that they had both been rescued by Hallison at some point, and the big boy was telling Demitarnin that Lesi would have to stick with them for the time being until the bullies found another likely target.
That 'time being' turned into three full turns of endless pranks and counter pranks, wherein Lesi and Demi actually formed a working partnership that combined Demi's quick wit and Lesi's creativity. Hallison was content to be the brawn of the outfit, since keeping his comrades safe was all the motivation he needed. To adults, the trio were considered harmless marauders, and though they were punished several times for pranks gone wrong, they remained on the 'good side' of the law all the way until the time came for the boys to try their hands at standing for a clutch.
Pets: None Other/Talents: He is surprisingly good at writing and reading, though his sums leave a lot to be desired.
Will this character be a candidate? Yes.
