I know many of our SO's are deploying within the year, and care packages will be flying out of our houses like... like... I'm having trouble coming up with an analogy for this one, Wicked, help me out...

Anyway, I think it'd be cool to accumulate a list of what we can and can not ship to our men in their care packages. Or, just discuss what our men liked receiving to give others some ideas on what to send. I end up running out of ideas after the first 2 boxes!

Just make sure there's nothing pornographic going out, ladies. For all that I've heard, they WILL get in trouble for that stuff...

I'll make a good list of what to send and stuff, make this more indepth when I get home from work... 'cus... I'm still working... ninja trying too. There isn't much going on. And I'm sooo bored.

When Shawn was deployed I usually sent him care packages at least once a month and he's requested one a week if he's deployed again. It really gives them something to look forward to.

I usually sent him some form of video game, as he had a lap top, a GameBoy, I sent him a GameCube, and they had several other consoles that the men shared between them and one guy's girlfriend sent him a TV. He shared the room with three other guys and they passed a lot of time with those things. Of course, I love video games as well so I could pick em out good for him.

I also sent him magazines, books, any kind of non-meltable candy, dehydrated food that you can cook in the microwave or a hot plate, PICTURES, and something silly that reminded him of me. I once sent him this gigantic punching ball that had a wrist strap so it worked kind of like a paddle ball. He spent hours playing with that thing. He had a large reading lamp clamped to his bed and it hit the bulb and popped it. He was so upset I sent him a new one.

Basically anything that reminds him of home or that can pass the time. There's a lot of idle time during the deployment and most soldiers consider it the hardest thing about it.

SEE!? ALREADY WE ARE GETTING GOOD ANSWERS!

I think msot of my time will be spent writing Michael letters. Telling him it's all okay, we're okay, I love him, and I can't to see him again. He's a worrier.

I'm a worrier.

What happens when you put TWO worriers together? burning_eyes

My SO was on a boat, so I couldn't send him anything too huge for his rack when he was underway. Things I sent him in his last care package:

Bose Ipod Speakers
PSP + games
DVDs
Tons of Neiman Marcus snacks
Pictures
Clothes
Digital Camera
Letters

And a bunch of other stuff I can't think of now. Its been more than a year since I've had to send one heart

My care packages usually have pretzels, Gardettos, maybe a couple of cans of soup.
Then whatever he requested, plus a letter.
The one that's open now has that stuff plus a new CD he wanted. Still have about half a box to fill.

I send out a package a week, sometimes a couple a week and I usually write every day or so.
My packages always have:
a letter
beef jerky, always beef jerky.
canned meat, usually chicken
some type of candy
grape drink mix
gummy things, like tonka trucks and fruit roll ups.

Then I get other things that I know he likes to fill up the box. But those 6 things are almost always in there. The beef jerky for sure. A lot of the times the other stuff is just goofy things that reminds him of home. I try to send him a flash drive every so often as well with videos of me, our dog and AK. I think he has 2 or 3 now. Occasionally I'll get him DVDs and Games for his PSP. I also try to send him something home baked at least once a month. He's gotten 3 or 4 different kinds of cookies and cake so far.
For his Easter package I'm going to try my hand at banana bread and see if it turns out alright. I'm worried about the moisture. :/

Make it in a jar!
Also, for Easter boxes, are we making a trip to walmart?

I'm going to make it in a damn jar! (By the way, theres like 34 jars of yours at my house) But I've read that it can mold because of the heat and moisture even in the jars... I don't know how that would happen. But, I figured I better get it out quick.
Yes we're going to Walmart and to Michaels and to gamestop b/c I think a zombie game is appropriate for Easter. He

I need to get him that baseball game, I wish he liked zombies.
It's too bad you can't test run the bread, see how long it lasts.

Baseball. lol.
I wish I could test run the bread too, but I don't think its going to happen. I'll just hope for the best.
I also found a really cool recipe for beer bread, I may send that to him. Its just a regular bread recipe using beer. I'm not sure how it'd fare in a jar. I'll experiment.
