Nari yawned and smacked his lips, surveying his familiar surroundings absently. There was more and more going on these days, and he'd decided he liked it - with plenty of new faces and several sets of growing children, there certainly wasn't a shortage of company when you wanted it. He was especially happy for the cubs, since it meant they had an abundance of potential playmates - mostly cousins, but there were a few running around not related to the Queen.

He knew he was enjoying being a brother, uncle, and sometime-babysitter. At the moment, his spotty niece Kibatobato was asleep with her head on her paws, and it was painfully cute.

Domevlo had taken to doing odd-jobs in the pride. Anything no one else was willing to do, he was the first to jump at it. He felt this need to make himself useful, and prove himself an asset. He had never had anyone or anything rely on him before, and it was just one of many things that he yearned for. All in all, he was happy. Happy to be here, and happy with whatever task fell upon his massive shoulders.

However, thaere was often a time when he found himself with nothing better to do but explore the swamps. He was a comical sight, trying to navagate in the most stealthiest of ways.
Stealth, though, illuded the collosus.
It was then he stumbled upon the two. The tip of his dark mane, down on his chest, was muddy, as were his paws, and his face, up untill he noticed the two, was devoid of any visible emotion. However, when his gaze did come to rest on the two, his face, or what half of it would still respond to the tug of his muscles, was transformed into a slightly startled expression, then an attempt at a smile.

"Hello," his voice rumbled quietly, mindful of the sleeping little one.

Recognizing Domevlo, Nari nodded in acknowledgement when he appeared. Though he hadn't yet had the opportunity to have a proper conversation with him, it was hard to avoid at least making the acquaintance of the lions you lived with.

"Afternoon," he returned with a smile.

Domevlo neared, and tried to make himself appear smaller - a habit he had developed when around others, expecially other males - till he layed near Nari.
"Noon,..I hadn't payed any attention to the time," He said, looking up at the sky, or what of it was visible, then to the young Kibatobato. "No wonder the young one sleeps so." another smile.

Domevlo had come to find great entertainment with the thing called 'night crazies' many of the more energetic of creatures seemed to get. A nice nap would ensure a nice bout of them.

The brown lion chuckled softly, seeming unphased by Domevlo's appearance or size; he'd grown into the same easy calm his mother possessed, and was difficult to bother with little things. Not that he didn't find it curious, because he did, but it didn't cause him any concern.

"Run them around, feed them, maybe wait for it to get hot, and there you go." He smiled fondly down at Baba. "Not that it matters so much with her. She's easier to watch than some of them."

Domevlo chuckled. Sometimes watching them he could heel his own age deep within his tired muscles. Long ago he had lost a great deal of his memories. His youth was blank, and the feeling of vivaciousness and youth were lost to him. What had still remained when he had awoken had washed away during his years alone, in his self-inflicted exile from society. Not that he'd had a choice in the matter.

"Even so, I envy their energy, their innocence. I can almost feel it in myself though, watching them. Joy can be found even in the midst of frustration, when it comes to them."

All were his observations. His first time just standing back and watching the pride's youth, he'd been so on edge. Afraid. Afraid of what? Certainly not them. No, not at all. Afraid for them. Then, when he thought on it, it had made him smile. So long he'd worried only for himself.
This was paradise for Domevlo.

"There's a silver lining to it all." Whether he was talking to himself about life in general, or to Nari about the young ones, it was hard to tell. It was a pretty good blanket statement either way.

"That's very true," Nari agreed, quietly resisting the urge to shift positions while he listened to Domevlo. His paws were starting to fall asleep a little, but he didn't want to move and wake the sleeping juvenile. She wouldn't be crabby with him over it like Maradufu would be, but he still didn't want to disturb her.

"And I suppose I'll know what I'm doing if I ever have my own, at least," he said, with a soft, amused snort. Though his mother had been...encouraging him to find someone for ages, he still hadn't.

Domevlo gave a soft chuckle, "Ah, yes. That is true."

He'd never leant a single thought to children of his own, or a mate. He was content with the here and now. With all that he had now, he supposed such thoughts would almost of seemed greedy of him. He had much to appreciate.

Domevlo was slowly learning the customs of this pride. He'd heard a little of the quest which the adolecent members would take. Looking at the small juvenile, Domevlo couldn't help but think how worried he'd be if he were her family, and had to watch her leave, and worry every day about her well being.
"How can you bear to send them out into the world so young? How, when they are of age,..can you let them go? It's dangerous out there,...." He looked aside, "I should know. Does it not worry you?"

He paused, and let a small silence waft in the air, before he gave a soft half-chuckle.
"Stupid question, of course you do. I appologise. I was thinking out loud." He gave Nari an apologetic look, wary of having said something wrong.

As he looked down at his niece and listened to Domevlo's question, his face fell for a moment; but when the other lion apologized, he looked up and smiled softly, sadly. "There's no need to apologize. There's nothing wrong with asking questions."

"It's...difficult, but it's what we've always done. On one paw, its easier for those of us who were born here, since we've gone out ourselves, but..." Nari sighed. "We also have a better idea of how many don't come back. My mother's sent fourteen of her own children out, and only five of us have returned to her."

"Of course, that doesn't mean they've died. Just that they haven't come back." He stared out at the swamp, tail flicking behind him. "But we'll never really know."
PostPosted: Mon Mar 30, 2009 6:37 pm

Domevlo winced at the number. "I think,..not knowing,..would be the greatest pain. Too many 'what-ifs'," He gave a lighter laugh and shifted to a more relaxed position, "I'd go mad."

Though with a more positive outlook, I guess it'd be easier, he assumed. He hadn't seen much to have such hope, though. He had a bias that was still strong in his mind, and would always be there. He was slowly becoming more optomistic, but in the end, he'd always default back.

Domevlo knew, though, that the young ones, out on their journey, would always me on his mind, and in his prayers.

Nari nodded his agreement, thinking on his missing littermates, younger sister, and the five siblings he'd never even met. It was always odd to consider that he had family somewhere out there that he didn't know. Still, it was always his brother Mng'aro who worried him the most; physically, he'd always been weak.

"I suppose I've just gotten used to it, over time," he mused, "That whatever happens happens. They'll come back or they won't, and there's nothing I can do to make it one way another." He didn't seem bothered by this idea at all, but calmly accepting - even comforted?

Domevlo hated to think of one 'getting used to' such a thing, but then agina, he though, it really wasn't all that different than what he had come to know as 'normal'.

Domevlo looked up at the sky, or what of it there was to be seen.
"The world is so big. Even if we could control the fates of the ones we care for, even for their own protection, it would be a cruel thing. I have experienced some of the worst this world has to offer, but I have also witnessed the kindness it holds. To bar them from experencing it would be cruel,...even if it would help our own sanity," Domevlo finished with a smile - warm as he could make it.

"Heh,..it's amusing how one's feelings can be so conflicted. Emotion versus logic, and reasoning." He heaved a great sigh, "I think I think too much," he rubbed his forhead with one great paw, and humorously remarked, "My head's starting to hurt."

Nari turned his head to watch Domevlo while he spoke, and nodded when he had finished, smiling as well. "You're right. It's better this way, really."

He chuckled then, sympathetic. "Maybe we should find something less serious to talk about."
PostPosted: Thu Apr 02, 2009 7:40 pm

Domevlo was no good at finding less-than-serious conversation topics, however, he had to agree.
"Yes. Yes, we should." He paused for a moment, considering all the possible things to talk about. Sadly, his well of topics was a shallow one.

"Perhaps..." he started, then trailed off, finding the topic less interesting than at first thought, then shook his head.
"The weather-" He then decided. Had he not once heard that whenever one had nothing to talk about, to turn to the weather?

"The weather?" Nari chuckled again. "It's about the same as ever, I suppose. Muggy and all, you know."

At her uncle's feet, Kibatobato stirred and yawned, cracking one eye open. People were talking, but only one of them sounded familiar. Who was her uncle talking to?
