Lenwae's paws hurt.
She and Zodiac had been running and running, barely taking time to sleep. She didn't even remember the last time she had eaten something. But she wasn't really hungry, more so she just needed a rest. Her legs were tired and her paws hurt from all the running and she was starting to feel like she was going to fall over there and not be able to get up for a while.
But she couldn't. She had to keep going, for Zodiac. She couldn't be weak, because weakness was deadly.
So no matter how tired she was, no matter how much she hurt, she couldn't stop.

Zodiac always seamed to find himself running infront of the pair. Though he was uncertain where the two where actully headed- excpet where he THOUGHT Ohu might actully be. He stayed infront for another reason. It was his job to gaurd his friend keep her safe from harm. He had sworn his life upon it and he would protect her to his very last breath.
His ear twitched and turned behind him to where Lenwae had been running. From the just of it she was struggling to keep up. But he didn't blame her- they had been running almost as if it seamed like forever. And they had to with her father on both of there tails. He then stopped and looked at her quite a distance up the road. "You need to rest...we can't keep up this pace much longer." He smiled warmly letting her know everything would be alright.

"I don'..." Lenwae began, stopped, and sighed, shaking her head. Her father's teachings were hard to drop, it seemed. It was okay to show weakness, sometimes.
"Yeah, but we should find somewhere hidden..." she added, looking around. The road they had been traveling beside had begun to wind through a thick forest, so there was cover all around, but she felt more comfortable with a place that was a bit more hidden. She walked a few paw steps away from the road, checking under bushes for places the two pups could crawl under and hide, making sure that there was nothing in the area. A hole she came across smelled like a rabbit, but other than that, there was nothing more really near by.
She finally came to a bush that had a small space beneath it, just big enough for her and Zodiac. She looked over her shoulder at him, a small, tired smile on her maw, and crawled into the leaves. It was a scratchy go, but she finally got into the space and curled up with a sigh. It was nice and shady and cool.
"I wish we didn't have to run anymore..." she sighed out the words, finally relaxed.

He nodded at her a yawn teetering over the lips of his maw. "I'm sure we will be able to rest longer when we reach Ohu. We won't be alone." He nudged at her side tenderly making sure she was alright. "Though-" He said in mid-though. "You should probally stay here and rest for the moment...I have to take care of something." His little tail wagged behind him.
He had smelled that rabbit too and he was sure any moment the unlucky fellow was on his way back to his hole. Though one wondered if the rabbit would be smart enough to smell the canines infront of his home- but then again he WAS still a rabbit- and with near perfect timing he came hoping up his driveway looking to settle in for the night. Though Zodiac felt bad doing it- he had higher priorites on his list. So with a small quiver of his behind he lept forward and effortlessly ended the poor fellows life quickly.
With a bound in his step he returned back to his friend. "Dinner!" He nudged it at her letting her have the entire thing if she wanted. She looked like she needed it more then him.

Lenwae watched as Zodiac came back with the rabbit they had smelled earlier, smiled, and shook her head.
"Nah, I think I'm too tired to eat right now. You go first," she replied with a shrug. She sat up to give him a small nuzzle and then laid back down.
"Ugh, I just hope this Ohu place is as good as you say it is," she huffed. Which was funny, because she honestly had no idea where else to go. Deep down, she was more of a fighter than a tactician. And she had no problems following Zodiac's lead. It was other dogs she didn't trust.

"Well-" He paused and looked at the rabbit on the ground; contimplating if he was going to eat it or not. Finally after a few seconds he started to nibble on it. He wanted to keep most of it for Lenwae though. "Dad said it was a wonderful place. A place where all dogs could be free and loved one another..." He stopped and looked up into the sky as if remembering his passed father. "I wish I got to know him in better circumstances...he was so grave all the time." He shook his head as he tried to hold back the hot wet tears.
"I'm sure we'll make it to Ohu." He said with a small squeak, half the dog he was ten minutes ago. "For our parents shall have not died in vein." He sat sudden, looking much like his own father did after his pack had been killed infront of him.

Lenwae watched as Zo gave his little speech, smiling softly. Even as young pups, he was showing the mark of a good leader. She had seen it in his father, in the brief time she had know the other dog. He certainly would be better than her own father was. Thinking of the b*****d dog left a bitter taste in her mouth and she swallowed slowly. She reached out a paw and put it on his.
"I have no doubts on that. We may be little, but we have each other," she replied with a nod. And then her smile fell.
"You don't think... They won't turn me away because of my father, will they? I mean, do you think?"

The small comfort of her touch seam to bring a small smile amount the grey mood that had clouded over him. "I don't think they'd turn you away." He said unsure of his own words. His father had been kind and accepted everyone. "And if they do- I will make them see what I see in you." The smile gradully grew looking at her. "And if they still can't see it- then those aren't really the dogs we want to run with anyways." He paused and put his nose to hers. "But don't you worry. I'll stick with you no matter what happens." He then rubbed it back and forth on hers in an eskimo kiss.

Len smiled softly at his words and curled closer to him after he rubbed their noses together.
"That a promise, Zo?" she asked, though her voice was teasing. She didn't doubt his dedication to her, just as he didn't doubt hers to him. To be honest, she didn't ever want to leave his side, even though she knew there would probably be times when it was necessary. But she needed him at her back. She couldn't count on anyone else but him. When one is betrayed by your own father, it makes it kind of difficult to trust others.

"I promise my life on it." He said with the bold confidence of the Ken Kai in him. Teasing or not he ment every word he said and never go back on it. "Until the day I die I will always be by your side and protect you and everything you stand for." He puffed out his tired chest finally allowing himself to collapse on the ground next to her. It felt good to finally stop and relax awhile. They really didn't get that much of a chance with Lenwae's dad on thier heals. And even now the b*****d was still running closer to them. Hunting them down for no apparent reason then revenge. One day Zodiac would end his teriany, he would restore balance to the land. He only hoped that Lenwae wouldn't be mad for anything that happened to her father- he was still blood afterall.

Lenwae sighed and slumped a bit as if there was a weight on her that was suddenly removed as she curled up against her friend. She was so tired, of running and worrying. She wanted there to be a place where they could go and not have to worry about her father and his dogs catching them and dragging them back to be killed, or worse. There wasn't any telling what her father would do to them. He'd killed her mother, his own mate. What would he do to his flesh and blood for betraying him?
The pup didn't want to think about it.
She pressed herself closer to her friend and closed her eyes tiredly.
"I'm... not sleeping. Just resting my eyes..." she assured him, lying through her teeth as she started to involuntarily began to slip into a doze.

He tried to keep his eyes open as long as he could. It was his duty to protect Lenwae and if he even faultered once and went to sleep he wouldn't be able to sniff if danger was near-by. But maybe it was his lack of disipline as a puppy that caused his eyes to finally teater closed. With his head slumping down on hers he too fell into a heavy sleep. Something he needed so badly with this running. And something he'd need to keep his pace once they awoke. Lenwae's father would never stop.
