alrighty o,.,o..i'm making this primarily for saxophone..or clarinet biggrin ..but feel free to give tips on brass..(please...there is one thing i do know...tightening your face is NOT the best way to hit high notes...tighten your diaphragm..to compress the air)...anyway biggrin here goes

alright biggrin i saw someone ask about this..in an earlier thread...i figured i'd give my piece...but on a more recent thread o.O...For saxophone, i've heard people say "take in less mouthpiece" o.o don't do this..it will make you sound weak and thin, leave your mouth in the same place you always have it(which should be right around where the reed meets the mouthpiece when no pressure is being applied). keep your embouchure loose(or as loose as you normally are)..this will ensure that it still has the same sound quality as your low notes. what you want to do is flex your diaphragm as much as possible, this should ensure that your air is nice and tight. you should be able to hit high F very easily like this..(hard reeds will beef up your sound in the upper register but will also make it harder to play low notes..so use a comfortable medium.) if you feel the desire to go HIGHER than F, then you might need to firm up your embouchure just a little bit...(and also learn the altissimo fingerings xD) w/e you do up here..do NOT take less mouthpiece, bite a little bit harder than usual, this will, normally cause a squeak, but with the right fingerings you will have BEAUTIFUL altissimo biggrin ..with practice that is xD(fingerings vary from sax to sax...find the right one for you....there are a bunch of different fingerings for altissimo..you can even figure out your own)

for clarinet? o.o well...i really have no idea HOW i do it...they just seem to come out naturally for me...someone shed some light?..i know i tend to Super-Flex my diaphragm when i get above high F(High F tends to be a bit flat btw...try to fix this with your diaphragm rather than your embouchure biggrin )

For brass... to start with, you're best off arpeggioing up to it, I can finally reach Top C because of that!! Yeah! And I'm still working on those notes even higher above the stave D=

for trumpet, and most brass instruments, there are a lot of different ways. THE BEST way..for tone that is, keep your face LOOSE(about how you would normally play) keep your corners kinda tight though, to keep the air from going out the sides(you need to flex your diaphragm for this). this works because when your lips are loose, they have more room to vibrate, and the MORE they vibrate, the higher your pitch will go, so instead of flexing your lips, and stopping the vibration, keep your lips loose, and use your diaphragm to compact the air and get the speed you need to vibrate your lips. another way, which isn't as good for tone, but probably a little easier..is to curl your lips in a little bit...this works because your lips have less room to vibrate(this makes your tone really...not so good) and so they are FORCED to vibrate fast, but they aren't making BIG vibrations..only small ones

OMG!!!!Today I reached super E on the trumpet!!!!
My head went crazy afterwards cos I held it for like 5 seconds though!!!
I was in so much pain but it was well worth it!
I can't wait 'til the day where I play so high that I pass out!!!
I played a few squeaks that were a bit higher, but come on!!! I'm soooo proud!!!! ^^
