A week later the conversation regarding the daffodils was still raging between the various factions within the spirit realm. Both sides were adamant in regards to their own points, they refused to compromise and the voices were rising to levels that couldn't be ignored even for a seasoned Angeni such as himself. If he were to be frank about it, he was seriously considering joining in the argument by declaring that he would quite like for daffodils to be blue with little purple polka dots on them - maybe with lilac pollen or something. Such were the levels of his desperation that this was nearly a viable idea, it was more through luck alone that logic managed to persevere and he restrained himself from making this outburst despite how irritating and pointless the entire dispute was. Spirits honestly had nothing better to do on occasions, did they?

Alas he did have something to do. Well, he sort of had something to do... With a flick of his wrist the man brushed the hair away from his eyes, squinting against the sunlight that he was so very unaccustomed to. Hourglass pupils shrank against the overwhelming rays and after only a few moments of exposure he was first to shut his gaze again. Years of living with his hair over his face had been a bit like shooting himself in the foot. He had done it for a reason of course (a good one at that) but when he actually had to look for somethign it was a bit problematic. Suffice to say it took him a rather great amount of time to slowly adjust his vision to the light of day and even then he had to endure the constant reminder of his curse - the grass may have been green to everyone else but the scene that lay before him was dead. Everything aged and died within his gaze, it was terribly disconcerting but such was the way of things.

He scratched at an itch just within his parting and leant back against the tree once more, shifting the ancient and billowing sleeves a little away from his wrists. It had been a long, long time since he had last done this... Actually it'd been bloody decades. Unfortunately when he had finally decided to listen to the pleas of the spirits again it also requried for him to take up his former responsibilities.

Peachy.

There was a general misconception that all Angeni were pure and good, this was largely inaccurate. He would not deny that he had been sent by higher powers to assist in the 'mortal world' but he had not been sent in the name of the light. On the contrary he had been sent to maintain balance and consequently became the judge and arbiter of most of the 'injustices' within the world. He never had an issue with the big events, they were easily dealt with but the tiny issues were a bit more awkward. For example, he had recently stumbled upon a graveyard filled with restless spirits and through a rather lengthy reverie had discovered a number of things. All this had culminated in a necessity to find a soquili, the only survivor of a fallen herd.

Now this may have seemed easy or would have been if he was an avid socialite but as he was a male who was subject to the constant harassment of spirits who argued about daffodils every single second of their existence he was nnot always capable of recalling vast amounts of information. Admittedly he could recall many things but the constant interruptions made it impossible to make progress.

...You know, that thing where you file away information that's irrelevant information and found what you needed later on? Well he wasn't able to do that given he would be stopped a third of the way through and be forced to go BACK.

God he hated his job.

It was settled that he was not a socialite and had been settled for centuries but the fact still remained that he had a job to do. This job was to find a big, blue stallion. A fluffy big, blue soquili with a heart on his nose. Now, most would have scoffed and told the Angeni that with his wings and god given powers it should have been easy but did they know how many soquili lived in this world? Apparently not, but it was a lot and with no clues to go on in pursuit of this hissyfitting-wayward carebear he was at a lose end.

He released a sigh through parted lips and once again adjusted his weight. He had been sitting precariously on the branch within the tree canopy for a few hours now and had made no progress, he was going to have to think about this logically OR he was going to have to figure out how to make the world go nice and quiet again.

There was only one thing for it.

"You know for the daffodils," he paused for emphasis as he spoke into the 'empty' air. "I really think they should be blue with orange dots," he continued in a non-plussed tone. The desired affect was not achieved in this and the argument was renewed (although someone had sided with him on the 'orange bit and a new 'orange party' had been formed in the debate), he could do nothing more than release a sigh and cast his amber gaze down towards the grassy meadow below him.

Oi...

That itch had started again, the itch to move on, to pass over un-explored lands, to see things that were wholly new and different. Of course that was getting harder now… when he had first travailed down over the mountains to this land, leaving his home behind, everything had been new and exciting. Every step had revealed something different. The beauty of a cascading waterfall, the solace of a silent full moon caught in the gently flowing river. The thick shadows of the forest where it was possible to hear the trees breathe… Yet three years on the forest remained the same, the paths that once the gateway to a new experience, held only memories. Wildly rushing rivers and shallow streams meandered the same courses as they always had, each linked to the next, a wide network that supplied the traveller no matter where he went.

The feeling of normalcy, of comfortable familiarity.. it was disturbing, an echo of a past rather forgotten. Where once the horizon beckoned, now it spoke only of that which was known. Why was he driven to explore? What was wrong with him that he had begun to feel restless, anxious? Snorting hot breath the stallion shook his head, staring down into the rippling waters of the small lake before him. Of course he still held great joy within his heart, he loved this land, its richness, its wildness.. The two-leggers that lived along the length of the river.. They, at least, still held mystery for the wild soquili, but something within him refused to get too close, not that he was afraid, but it was almost as if the spirits wanted him to wait. Wait for what? He had no idea.. and that, perhaps, was partly the reason behind his current restlessness.

Dipping his head he dropped his muzzle past the glassy surface of the lake and drank his fill. It was a lake he had visited before, its waters cool and pleasant. Yet even that didn’t sooth the tightness in his muscles, the restless itch that drove him to paw at the glittering water. Shaking his head, water droplets flying free, the sapphire stallion reeled and sprang into a gallop, ears pressed flat against his head. Solid body thundered over the ground. Muscles strained to outrun the feelings within him. To escape the anxiety that had plagued him for weeks.

Hooves pounded the earth, racing over lush grass, pushing through low brush and dense gorse without slowing. Trees were narrowly avoided as the blue stallion thrust across the land, not caring where he was going, not knowing what lay ahead, only trying to escape the unsettled feelings within him, to regain the easy contentment that had accompanied him till now.

He was overwhelmed without any warning, the spirits from the meadows nearby had given slight shrieks of distaste as they had been so callously 'abused' by the blue stallion. When they hadn't been heard by him they hollered until they were heard and suffice to say, Cyn Generis was one of the victims of their fury. He released a soft groan as yet more voices invaded his privacy and yet in some form or another he had to be grateful for them. He didn't believe in coincidences, he worked alongside the Angeni of fate and 'coincidence' didn't fall into either of their vocabulary. However with the fury of these meadow-born spirits came the convenient glint of blue and rising dust in the distance.

There were very few blue soquili in the world and if they were blue then they tended to stand out in the crowd with their own unique features. Once again the 'human' rested his back against the tree trunk, one leg swinging absently from the branch while the other was bent at the knee and applying just enough pressure to ensure he didn't topple off the branch from either side. He was reasonably comfortable up here but at the moment the galloping soquili approached and was confirmed to be his target he was going to have to do something to stop him.

Knocking him out with a pot wasn't one of those options and Cyn hadn't used his human form in quite some time, the idea of swinging down from the branches and onto the Soquili's back was an amusing thought but not one he cared to try without becoming more accustomed to his old form - so how did he stop him?

Fingering the acorn with his free hand, he gazed down at the smooth contours of the shell and pursed his lips. His gaze only shifted up once more and the hourglass pupils dilated as the blue soquili was the one he was after. Aha, sometimes his job really was made a little more convenient. Alas, Cloud was moving at such a high speed that Cyn had little time to think and with only the slightest bit of a shrug he dropped the acorn down onto Cloud's head as he was passing by.

"You know..." he called out above the thundering hooves, his voice rising from deep within the pit of his chest. At first his tongue may have sound foreign, almost human; but if Cloud were to continue to listen he may have slowly found he understood for this 'human' could speak to horses! "If you keep running in such a reckless fashion you will cause more harm than good to both yourself and your surroundings..."

Faster.. faster! The pounding of his blood echoed that of his hooves. The harsh snorting of his breath blocked out even the wild rush of the wind past his ears. Lungs expanding like bellows, forcing the cage of his ribs to pump sharply as he pounded over the earth. At last, the voices in his head were drowned out by the pure effort of racing at top speed. Each jar as his hoof met the solid ground below sent shockwaves up through his shoulders. Testing the strength of his bones, the power of his muscles. Faster. Stretching his head lower, ears pinned back against his neck, nostrils flared till they were rimmed red, the sapphire stallion poured himself, his soul, into the wild pulse of his run. Seeking to escape the unwelcome sensations that disturbed him so deeply.

Suddenly a sharp stab of pain on the edge of his ear sent the stallion shying sideways with a shrill cry, more shocked than pain as he spun round, hooves gouging grooves in the dirt as his forward momentum was stalled. Dancing to the side, snorting great puffs of heated breath, the unusually unsettled soquili shook his head, eyes searching beneath the tree for whatever had caught his ear. The two sleek audits pressed flat against his head, grey eyes showing their whites.

What the heck had happened? The faint throbbing of his ear felt like a snake bite yet no snake could have got him at full gallop or in mid-air. Searching the local area for any threat or anomaly the stallion never considered looking skywards, too intent on his inner turmoil that for once, had him failing in his usual easy observations of his surroundings.

Well, he was fairly certain that the stallion hadn't heard a word he had uttered but he had to admit that the acorn had been a huge success. The response had been somewhat over exagerated and further served to indicate the male's flighty behaviour but he had come a halt. Cyn really couldn't ask any more than that from a single acorn and after releasing a small sigh he pushed himself away from the tree trunk. In one delicate movement he dropped from the tree branch and landed with the softest of thumps beneath the great boughs above his head. Fixing his hands together, his fingers steepled between one another he fixed his aged gaze upon Cloud and cleared his throat - unsurprisingly, the image that his eyes provided to him was beginning to age and rot, the vibrant colours fading fast.

...And people wondered why he didn't care what colour anything was!

"As I said," he spoke again but made no attempts to approach the soquili, aware that his humanoid form may cause distress. "Moving in such a reckless manner may cause more harm than good to both yourself and your surroundings." He allowed these words to settled and calmly blew the strands of hair away from his eyes, ensuring that his vision remained clear despite the discomfort of the visions he was in the process of receiving. "You have been running for a very long time, Cloud Runner - both soul and body require a rest."

He deemed this introduction to be appropriate and was well aware that the encounter itself may be rife with problems. Had he been in the image of a soquili then perhaps things wouldn't be quite so bizarre but as fate would have it, it was easier to halt him as a human than a soquili. Frankly, Cyn suspected that he would have been rammed at the speed Cloud had been moving at and he really didn't need anymore war wounds than he already had. Nevertheless, his ablity to converse with Cloud would have been a shock in itself and thus, it was better to keep his words to a strict limit until the blue stallion was ready to listen.

If the acorn had been a shock, the sudden appearance of a two-legger was even more of one. Stepping back the stallion was instantly wary. After one certain experience with two-legger trappers the sapphire-hued male naturally viewed their kind with more caution than he had once afforded them. Yet the surprises were not after for as the first few sounds left the two-leg, Cloud realised the other was no ordinary indian... he spoke the same language as the soquili!

Frozen in place Cloud could only stare helplessly as his already muddled mind struggled to connect the two-leg body with the soquili voice. What the spirits was going on..?

Yet as the stone-still stallion struggled to absorbed what was happening, the words continued to come. And such strange words! Did.. this stranger know him? He certainly knew his name.. A shiver rolled down the blue male's spine, ears flattening against his neck at the sensation.

"... W-who.. are you?" Finally the uncharacteristically unsteady voice spilled out, solid muscles trembling with the need to run, to escape.. some instinct screamed at him yet.... Cloud hesitated. This two-leg.. this stranger who knew him.. he had to be here for a reason, had to! So as bizzar and as strange as the situation was, Cloud stood stock still. Determined, if nothing else, to find out what this unusual visit was for.

Despite his attempts to keep his distance the revelation that he could converse with the soquili had caused quite a bit of shock. Unfortunately such a reaction was unavoidable and he released a sigh through parted lips. Now was not the time to shift into a more appropriate form, demonstrations of power (while entertaining to some) were not always called for. For the time being, Cyn would remain a 'human' and continue to regard the now colourless soquili before him. He held his silence, ensuring that the uncertainty and immediate surprise had passed before closing the gap between himself and Cloud just a little. Moving in an arch around the front of the blue stallion with a paced gait and the occasional kick of his toe against his heel.

"Upon awakening, they called me Cyn Generis -" He replied softly, halting and lifting a hand to brush and draw back the hair around his eyes. He held his palm against his head, pressing lightly as though in a mild stretch before continuing. "Who I am aside from that is not really of great concern to you," He cleared his throat and cast an apologetic look towards the soquili. There were those who pursued Angeni mercilessly in return for their assistance, the constant desire to use their powers and consequently they got in the way. It was better for most to remain clueless to who he was, what he was and the abilities he possessed unless they absolutely needed him.

"It would be safe to say that I possess the ability to commune with the spirits and yourself."

...That sounded reasonable.

"And that would be why I'm here," he dropped his hand back to his side and turned to face the soquili fully, keeping his expression otherwise unreadable. "It is imperative that you return home," he spoke frankly, his tone even but one that did not appear to accept any disagreements that might arise. "As soon as possible..."

Grey eyes tracked the two-leg as Cyn paced round the front of the sapphire stallion. Cloud watched, calmer as the silence continued, the need to run had faded and with such a strange distraction the disquiet of his mind was pushed to the background.

Indeed, the answers he was offered were distracting enough on their own, though the name was interesting it was in effect just a name, without any special meaning to Cloud. The dismissal that followed caused a slender ear to flick but the carebear soquili had calmed enough that his far more normal temper was in place, holding back the strange affliction that had tailed him for weeks.

Upon receiving the information offered, Cloud drew the only logical conclusion as to who this stranger was. He had to be one of those two-legger ones called.. Sharman. It was the only reasonable explanation, which allowed Cloud to relax. With the oddity explained he was far more willing to accept the situation in classic good humour. Though the faint twitch of muscles betrayed the strange sickness that had plagued the blue stallion's mind recently.

Even this though, could not prepare the male for what came last. The words that struck him through, like an arrow. A chill crept from poll to tail dock, coat prickling. Staring the stallion struggled to understand. Home... the one place he had never thought he would return to... "... Why?" Maybe it was the wrong reply, maybe it was impertinent to ask when this stranger had probably travailed great distances to find him... but... how could he not? How could he even consider going back.. after all these years?

Typical child!

Cyn resisted the urge to raise his eyes heavenwards at the question and crossed his arms against his chest. He glanced down briefly at his toes, balancing a little on the heels. It was difficult to explain the precise reasoning behind his words, if he told the soquili everything then there was a high chance he would panic and keep running. Diplomacy, subtlety and tact were things he had been trained in but the years had taken their toll and he had become decided more cynical and gruff. A part of him wanted to slap the blue stallion and simply tell him to do as he was told!

"It is imperative," he repeated calmly. A broken record, perhaps - but it was a necessary evil and he had found that repetition tended to work. He'd brought up a number of children in the past and that was how they learnt, it didn't really change throughout life... after all, wasn't that how nagging mates tended to get their way and train their 'hubbies' out of bad habits? He lifted his gaze again and fixed it upon the soquili, hourglass eyes narrowing somewhat. It would be ironic to declare he had 'no time for this' given what he was, the more accurate term was that Cloud did not have the time for these games.

"You do not need to know 'Why'; only that you are needed," he furrowed his brow for a few moments and then relaxed, allowing his arms to drop to his sides again as he tilted his head to one side. It was then that he spoke frankly in what he hoped would hit 'home' so to speak, it wasn't his purpose to explain what had happened to the stallion's home...it was only his duty to make him discover it for himself.

"The spirits call for you, if you continue to run you will always be restless. One might say it would be healthier to obey and permit them the opportunity to give you peace. No?"

Blue ears pressed back at the reply, it hardly being conductive to persuading the uneasy stallion to do as told. Being ordered about was not going to make Cloud do as the stranger wished, for the typically easy-going nature of the soquili had been twisted, strained and stressed by the new and unwanted feelings. Put under such tension for too long and anyone was going to get a little grumpy.

Then, the stranger relaxed, seemed to drop the gruff pretence he had been putting up and simply spoke the truth, as far as Cloud could figure. The release from clipped hostility that rankled the already ruffled blue fur, to a simple honesty that was un-judgmental and bare.

That, at last, made the stallion back up and think for himself. The troubled feelings, the unrest within him, things he had never felt before, and had been ignoring recently.. if what this stranger said was true, he would be able to rid himself of it all.

Like a dam everything he had been running from, everything that had been pressing on him, simply dropped away. Not like an epiphany or some such nonsense, but Cloud felt he had a direction once more. Even if it was an unwanted one..

Grey eyes dipped, head lowering in an expression of unconscious submission. Very well.... it seemed fate had chosen for him without his consent, but the possible return of his previous life, over this turmoil that existed within him.. he couldn't just disregard it.

"Agreed... and.." Stormcloud gaze lifted, apologetic. "Thank you... "

Those who chose to go against the tides of time and fate generally found themselves in extreme conflict with the world. They would struggle through life, never find a break and would often be noted as cowards. Cyn Generis had never been fond of those types, it was their kind that prevented progress and degeneration. Those who wished to be 'different' and to deliberately go against the path chosen for him were the root cause of the ridiculous number of broken families in this region - he wouldn't stand for it and he would never tolerate a coward. However this afternoon the spirits had brought with them not only their daffodil dispute but also a certain amount of luck.

...Without further argument or question the blue stallion had accepted his words. Whether the stallion made his way towards his homeland immediately remained to be seen, but there was an assurance in his voice that he would at the very least return. Cyn couldn't ask for any more than that, to demand would cause rebellion and he lacked the patience to chase a single individual all over the world just because they wanted to be difficult. It was true that he had time on HIS side, but time was not necessarily on the side of those he had to find and consequently, he couldn't favouritise.

"No gratitude is required for delivering such a message," he replied dutifully and clasped his hands behind his back. His lips pursed and for a little while longer he regarded the stallion before nodding. He was satisfied, his job (for now) was done. This in mind he ceased in his pacing and took a few more steps backwards to provide the stallion with space to move around. "If you do not have any other questions then I will leave you to your own devices," he offered after a few moments. There was then a pause, a mild hesitation and a self deprecating smile.

"And I apologise for the acorn," he added.
