Cera was unusually content. Her slim body rested comfortably in a bed of blossoming tulips, their soft petals and leaves grazing her sides. Spring had just arrived and the melting snow had left her with just the barest hint of happiness. Winter never sat well with the soft pink mare, and she stayed near the mountaintop teepee all winter.
But now it was spring, and spring brought the blooming and blossoming flowers that she loved. She had finally tentatively ventured out, seeking the silent companionship of her flowers. And so she rested in the warm spring sun, humming softly to herself as she absently watched the swaying tulips in the warm breeze.

"Smelly flowers." Neva muttered as she stomped each one that crossed her paths. The winged mare had never been much for spring, because of the flowers, but she didn't like the other seasons either for various reason. A daisy was soon turned into nothing but bruised petals as her hoof came down upon it. This was the fate of the flowers.
The voice that had appeared in her mind kept quiet on this spring day. Something that for once Neva was glad for. She didn't want to deal with both flowers and that annoying voice that taunted her. If she did she probably would have gone crazy, but for now, she was content with squishing the flowers in her path.

Cera jumped, startled, as she heard load stomps approaching. Each step was heavy and decisive, almost angry, and Cera winced with each loud thump. She turned her head to see the approaching mare that was systematically crushing each precious tulip that stood in her path.
For first instinct was to run. She ducked her head in fear, wishing that the flowers could swallow her up and hide her. She kept her head down as she finally found the courage to stand up slowly, intent on ducking away to hide behind the trees that bordered the valley.
'But,' she thought, visibly wincing as she heard each heavy stomp that signified the death of another beautiful flower, 'my flowers...'

Neva stomped upon another flower, making it so it would no longer come back. "Stupid smelly flowers." She muttered once more as another fell victim to her hooves. Hearing a small rustle, the mare looked up and noticed not a stallion, but another mare. This was an interesting turn of things. Almost everyone she encountered were stallions, and it had gotten to the point where she began to think the only mares in the lands were of her family.
She glared at the other and stomped upon another flower. Her wings were pulled tight against her sides, her head lowered enough to glare at the mare, hoping to give the other a fright. "What do you want?" Her voice gave away her annoyance as she continued her glare at the mare.

Cera gave an undignified and very audible squeak in fright as the mare turned an icy glare on her. She had just wanted to back away without being noticed but she couldn't even do that correctly. She lowered her gaze a little, avoiding the cold glare by focusing on the poor crushed flower that lied at the other mare's feet.
"N-nothing," she stammered nervously, "I was j-just going th-that way." She edged herself a bit to the side, closer to the haven of trees that stood a few quick sprints away all while avoiding the other's gaze. Her long mane and tail blew in the wind and the pastel tulips kissed her ankles, and Cera wanted nothing more than to run and hide.

Neva couldn't help but smirk as she watched the frightened mare. Oh it would be so much fun to scare the dear. She took a step closer to the other, making sure to deliberately squish another tulip in the ground. This would be quite simple really, and quite amusing. She hadn't scared anyone in sometime. Stallions are to nosy to be scared.
Taking another step towards the mare, she gave another smirk before opening her mouth to say one single word. "Boo."

Cera visibly winced as another flower fell to its end, unable to take her eyes away from its bruised remains. She jolted up, unable to keep herself from meeting the mare's eyes as the other slowly approached her.
She jumped in response to the single word, unable to hide the terrified squeak that escaped from her throat. She stumbled a bit back, before quickly straightening herself upright and darting clumsily to the safe alcove of trees, knowing that the other's eyes followed her.
She reached the closest tree, swinging herself around to hide behind its trunk and leaned against the rough bark. She huddled close to it, almost for comfort, and slowly breathed out, trying to calm her breathe. She knew that the single tree didn't hide her entire body, but she felt a little better by being barely out of sight.
That other mare was...different. Mean. Cold.
Strong.
Cera was terrified but undeniably curious. She'd never seen someone like the mare, someone so self-assured and confident, someone who walked with long, powerful strokes. She was so different than Cera herself.
Cera shimmied closer to the tree, trying to focus intently on a small beetle that was slowly making its way up the numerous grooves of the tree and intently trying to ignore everything else. Was the other mare gone?

Neva couldn't help but laugh as the mare ran away from her. This was amusing and quite intriguing. Others had usually put up some sort of arguement before they fled. This one fled without putting up much of a fight and it amused her. Watching the direction the mare went, she prepared to go up in the sky.
Spreading her wings that were hardly used, she moved them up and down as she stretched them out. Neva took her time, knowing full well that the mare would still be there waiting for her to leave. A few minutes later she took a running leap into the air, allowing herself to fly.
She soared higher into the sky, but she kept an eye on the ground, watching the area where the frightened mare had run off to. Neva would wait up here in the sky, and see if the mare would come out. If she did, the winged mare who blended in with the shimmering colors of the sky would have a great time scaring her once more. All she had to do was wait.

Cera listened, still as a statue, for the sound of retreating steps. She wanted to go back to her flowers, to lose herself in their sweet scent and watch the bees buzz back and forth to each flower. She slowed her breathing, her hears twitching as she sought some sign that that scary mare had left. She heard soft ruffling of flowers and then silence.
Had it left? Cera squeezed her eyes tightly shut and waited another minute, searching out another sign that the mare might have left. She was met with silence and she opened her eyes, trying to keep herself from panicking. The mare must have left, right?
She finally gathered enough courage to take a small peak around the curve of the tree. Her nose peeked out as she tentatively took a step forward and away her safe haven. Her eyes swept themselves quickly over the clearing and the flower bed, empty except for scattered petals that danced in the wind. Empty.
Cera gave a sigh of relief, taking a full step away from the tree. The mare must have left while she hadn't been paying attention. She took a few more steps forward, finally calming herself, and reached the edge of the flower patch. She breathed out again, slowly, finally bending her neck down to smell a fully bloomed tulip.
She was alone again, alone except for her beautiful flowers.

Neva spotted the mare come out from the trees and she couldn't help but laugh to herself. This was going to be to much fun. Not even the voice said anything, making this an alright day. She stayed up in the sky a few minutes as she waited for the mare to make her way back down to the flower patch.
When she had waited long enough she quietly flew closer to the ground, making sure that she would not be seen until she was ready. Neva landed quietly a few feet behind the mare, pulling her wings in tight against her. She now blocked the mare's haven of trees and wondered how the other would handle it.
"Think I left didn't you?" She asked, her voice revealing her amusement at scaring the poor mare.

Cera swung her body around, eyes wide in fright, and unable to hide a loud startled squeak for the third time. She instinctively edged toward the trees again, cursing herself for coming out from her hiding spot, before she realized the path was blocked. She panicked, shuffling her feet to distract herself and unsure what to do next.
She was stuck. She couldn't hide, and she felt more exposed than she ever had before. She didn't like confrontation, she didn't like people watching her. She just wanted to go hide in a mass of petals and never come out.
She breathed carefully, counting her breathes slowly as she tried to think, steadfastly keeping her eyes down on the ground. She could feel the mare's eyes on her, watching her every move and she finally opened her mouth, answering shakily,"I-I d-did. I w-was just go-going to l-look at m-my flowers again, M-miss."

Oh how Neva was enjoying herself. Such great sport it was scaring others out of comfort zones. "You wanted to flee back to the trees did you not?" she sneered as she took another step closer to the mare. "Such a scared little thing you are. Pathetic really." The winged mare smashed another flower against the ground.
"Perhaps if you like these flowers so much, you're just like one and could easily be squished beneath my hooves. It would make it so your pathetic presence would be no more. And you wouldn't be such an embarrassment to yourself." Her voice now sounding like it's old malicious self as she smashed yet another flower to the ground. "You fear me don't you?"

Cera was trembling, wincing at each word. She really did want to go back to the trees, but each word stung her. She bowed her head, her long mane sweeping by to partially cover her eyes. This is why she didn't like being around others; this was why she preferred just to hide and be around her flowers that wanted nothing from her.
She cringe as she heard another flower stem snap. The flowers hadn't done anything to the mare and the flowers were Cera's only friends. "I-I," she started, trying to not move, trying to round up what little was left of her strength. "I-I'm afraid b-because you-you're j-just--"
She broke off, and couldn't help take a step back as the wind mare took a step forward. "I-I just wanted to t-take care of th-the flowers, s-so p-please don't hurt them?" Her voice whithered away meekly, and she shuffled quietly, fighting the urge to flee across the clearing where the other mare would likely follow her.

Neva stared at her as she listened to the other stutter as she spoke. "Because I'm what? Come on speak up!" She pawed at the ground, squishing the bruised petals even more than what they already were. "If you're going to speak, you need to stop stuttering you pathetic mare."
Upon hearing the other mare ask to not hurt the flowers, she couldn't help but laugh out loud. Who in their right mind would want to take care of the flowers. That was a two-legger job, not something for those of four legs to do. "So, you want me to stop hurting the flowers? Why should I? They are nothing but smelly plants. It's also pathetic that you'll do the job of a two-legger by taking care of these smelly weeds." She stomped upon another flower as she spoke. This was much to fun for the winged mare.

"You-you're--" Cera broke off again, trembling too much to speak. "You're scary!" she suddenly burst out, much to even her own surprise. She lifted her head up a little, unable to meet the mare's eyes but staring at her wings that glimmered beautifully in the sunlight. How could someone so pretty--and the other mare was undeniably beautiful, glimmering in soft colors and glitter--be so malicious? She reminded Cera, somewhere beneath the trembling mass of nerves, of a spring rose that glimmered in the morning dew, only to stab you with its thorns.
She jumped at another stomped, jolted out of her thoughts. "I-I want..." she stopped herself, trying not to stutter. She was a pathetic mare, as the other said, she couldn't even speak without jumping at each word. She tried to steel herself, straighten herself and look into the mare's eyes. She imagined that she was standing up straight and proud, defending herself and the defenseless plants.
She lifted her head the barest inch, trying to keep herself from stuttering again. "Th-they're not smelly," she finally said, unable to do anything else and still unable to keep the trembling from her voice. "And th-they're not weeds." She wilted just after she spoke the words and dropped her eyes down, tensing herself for a physical blow for having the audacity to speak.
