The Female raced along the waters edge, the river traveling endlessly for miles.
Her paws dug into the earth, the mud sticking to her paws and her body weight sinking in the soft earth that had been soggy from the water.
She just smiled, throwing her head back and letting out a little happy bark of delight.
She giggled, jumping over old fallen trees and large rocks, jagged and smooth.
She enjoyed the feeling of running.. and she enjoyed jumping obstacles.
It made her feel more like a wolf than a puppy.
Her family still called her a puppy, but she was desperate to prove to them that she was indeed an adult in mind.
Voila! was almost positive she had always been adult in mind.
The war between her grandparents pack and the neighboring pack was coming. She felt it. She had always felt it.
But she was ready for it. She'd fight for her mother and father if she had to.
Today was gonna be a good day. She could just tell.

 He had been trying to work on his self-confidence issues. Lately, though, they had been failing. Sticks breaking would put him on edge, distant howls would send too many shivers down his spine - even a squirrel scampering across his path would be enough for the teen to jump and squeak with fear. It wasn't as bad as when he had been a pup, but still; shouldn't he have gotten over this silly inate fear of everything already? Adrieal wished his mom were here, his dad, his brother, someone . . .
But he had to break that mentality, right? He couldn't depend on anyone anymore: just himself. Too bad he wasn't so very trustworthy sometimes either . . .
Stuck in thought for a moment, Adrieal did not hear someone coming until he was, quite out of the blue as far as he knew, splashed with mud. And orange bullet streaked past him and instinctively the teen was set into survival mode, thinking himself attacked. "I'M NOT EDIBLE!" he whined loudly, leaping back in fright - impressive height at that too, he nearly grazed the lower branch of an oak. "I'm th-thin and scrawny and not v-v-very good for your h-health!"

Voila! put the brakes on as soon as she heard the whimpering. Her eyes widened a bit, as she looked at the teen, cocking her head, staring at him as if to figure him out.
She was silent for a minute, but then she let out a smile, breaking the little bit of tension.
"You dont think Id EAT you do you?"
She asked with a giggle.
Her little giggle sounded like a cloud, soft and gentle.
"You're silly. I don't eat wolves. I think Squirrels and rabbits taste better honestly."
She said, taking a few steps closer to him and then sitting with a plop.
"Whats your name?"

Adreial was off-set by how friendly she sounded and immediately alarm bells went off in his head; at least outwardly hostile wolves were easy to read. The ones that smiled, you couldn't trust them, he thought, never trust the ones that smile and go with the ones that growl. Least you know what they're probably thinking about. He took a step back, his tail brushing against the oak whose branch he had nearly conked himself on, clear eyes watching the female's every move. "Y-Yeah, they taste good . . ." He spoke quietly, eyeing this rambuctious teen with some concern. Adrieal had seen how fast she could run - it could even rival his impressive speed, more than likely surpass him right now since she appeared far healthier than he did, even when coverd in mud.
That meant he couldn't possibly run away if he wanted to. She'd just chase him, he was sure. And now this girl was asking him for his name . . . Oh, but if he didn't, surely something bad would happen. Healthy wolves either meant she was in a pack or she was a really good hunter, and knowing how many boundaries he'd crossed by accident these days, he risked angering an Alpha that might recognize him. "Er, it's Adrieal, ma'm . . ."

She cockered her head, looking at him with a soft gaze. She was somewhat hurt by his untrusting gaze.. But she took no offense to it. She couldn't blame him, she was strange.
"Well thats a very nice name!"
She said, trying to remain cheery.
"My name is Voila!..You know, like Ta-Da!"
She giggled a bit.
My family has a history with names like that, she said, thinking of her grandfather Wazaam, and her own mother Shezaam.
"So what are you doing out here?"
She asked, trying to roll over onto her back, and stretch, letting her paws stretch out over herself, and her tongue hang out from the side of her black maw.
She was trying to make herself look as little intimidating as possible.

"Ta . . . Da?" The painted brows tugged down into a confused frown. What on earth was she doing rolling more in the mud? And why was her tongue lolling? Did this Voila girl like to taste mud for some reason? After seeing a few strange wolves on his own, it shouldn't be surprising him like this, he thought. Maybe she could afford to eat mud if she liked, if the girl really did have a pack. It was still weird to watch, though.
Still, it had the desired effect. Adrieal seemed to relax just a little more now that Viola was exposing her stomach to him as she stretched, though he glanced about to see if she was alone. "Nothing m-much. I've been trying to find my family for f-f-forever," he replied after deciding no-one was searching for her. "But I haven't had much luck . . . What about y-you? Why were you running s-s-s-so fast?"
He hated s's. It was where his stuttering problem grew the worst.

She flipped back to her feet, shaking the dirt from her pelt and then laying down on her belly, head on her paws.
"I was just runnin. Dont you ever just want to run for the fun of it?"
She asked with a little smile.
He was odd, but she was okay with that.
Her tail flicked back and forth as she wagged it gently.
She perked up, her eyes sad.
"You..You dont have a family?"
She asked. Everyone should have a family. Her real father may not be around all the time, but her relationship with him was still not broken.
She loved Gren, he was her father.
But Chocolate was Daddy-Chocolate.
She didn't mind his stuttering.. She had dealt with so much worse.

Adrieal cocked his head at this strangely happy girl.; he hadn't met many of those. Running for the heck of it? Maybe he used to do that too . . . he certainly could be a speedster when he wanted, though only in short bursts nowadays, and those he had to keep in reserve for the day he would actually need them. And jumping too, but what good had that ever done him? Thank heaven she wasn't running from something, otherwise he'd be in a real bind . . .
"Oh! N-No, I do 'member. I remember Momma, Poppa, Driscoll . . . s-s-sorta." He paused suddenly, horrified. Was he actually beginning to forget more about them as time went by, their faces, their smiles? Did they even smile? It had never taken him more than several seconds to spit out their names. Now, he had to actualy stop and think! What justice was that doing to their memory? Guilt began to descend, and his face pulled into a semi-grimace.
"I lost 'em a long time ago, so now I'm just looking for them again," Adrieal quickly went on, stepping back as she shook the mud off her fur. "Haven't heard of any of th-them, have you?" It was a half-hearted attempt, a question he had asked different wolves in the past: nothing cropped up.

Her eyes grew sad and she shook her head.
"No Im sorry.. I dont know many outside my pack, except from my travels.."
She looked at him with a blush.
"I really wish I could help you though..."
She said with a nod.
She would hate to be without her family. But the names he listed did not ring any bells in the young wolfess's mind.
She wagged her tail, standing and nudging him with her muzzle.
"But Ill be your friend."
She said, tongue hanging from the side of her maw.

He panicked at the touch, disliking contact of any sort unless he himself allowed them to, and the young teen drew back from Viola with a sharp intake of breath, ears drawn back. Adrieal was not used to such close proximities with other wolves: he felt it too intimate, too intrusive to strangers. Yet here she was acting like they were actually . . . friends? But how? She'd only just met him. He remained a little suspicious despite the leap of joy his heart took: a friend, really? It would be nice after so long of just being alone and afraid . . .
"Do you live nearby? I-In a pack?" he asked her timidly.

She backed away, fearful at his hiss of breath and his reaction to her touch. She had never meant to scare him, but she had succeeded in doing it once more.
She gulped, perking her ears from their flat position on her head, and raised her head from the lowered position she had put herself in at his reaction.
"I..I live in a pack, yes. But its not really nearby.. I ran a little far."
She said, looking around her surroundings. Though she knew all too well the surrounding area and how to return home.
"If..If you want me to leave, I can. I dont want to scare you."
She said with a nod. She hated making others uncomfortable.

Did upsetting someone in a pack mean you got the whole family on your tail? Oh dear . . . "S-S-S'okay, really!" he told her sheepisly. "S-Sorry. I'm always like this, just being c-c-cowardly and running away from everything . . ." But maybe that was why he was still alive: by staying so alert his nerves were beginning to become frayed and his mind wide open to mild paranoia and what-have-you. Yet that didn't stop Adrieal from feeling terribly guilty for his way of life and how it affected his social skills. He had to try harder, for this poor girl's sake. "Wh-What's the name of your pack, Vwah . . . Viyo . . . Um . . ." Christ, he had already forgotten her name too?!

She smiled, instantly forgeting that he had been so fearful of her. She wagged her tail, her smile wide.
"I dont think you're cowardly. You are cautious, and ya know.. There is a difference. My daddy says so."
She said with a wink.
"And if daddy says so, it must be true."
She didn't take it offensively when he forgot her name. She chuckled, her voice soft.
"Voila!"
She said with a giggle.
"And my pack is Aqua Azul." She nodded proudly.

"Aqual Azul . . ." It sounded familiar, but Adrieal couldn't picture exactly where it was. He wondered, was this his chance? Would he be allowed into the pack if he asked? The opportunity to begin a new life was so tempting, even if it involved asking a complete stranger . . . Well, he had to grow a spine sometime, right? Start small. "Th-That's nice to know," Adrieal replied with a small nod, a shaky smile appearing. "But I still think it's just b-being cowardly. D'you think there's room for one m-more over there, Viola?" He simply plunged into the question without knowing the right way to segue in; made it awkward, though. "I k-kinda been wanting to find a pack for a long, long, long t-time now and all . . . and you seem n-nice. Is everyone over there n-nice?"
Great. Now he was reduced to pup-talk.
