It was good to be back on familiar ground. Despite his time away, Sunchase reveled in the familiar earth beneath his paws. His family was behind him a ways...but that was the point. Sunchase had scouted ahead, since he was still a Scout, and someone had to make sure everything was okay back at the pack. So...he'd gone ahead. And he couldn't help but grin at the new smells combined with the familiar ones. New life in the pack?
He quickly navigated his way to the center of the lands, towards the Father Tree. Truthkeeper had to be told he was back, and his family would be back within the moon cycle.

Risktaker was sitting by the Father Tree, uncharacteristically serene. He was usually vivacious, constantly seeking things to do and new experiences to have. He was friendly and loving, always talking with the members of his pack and meeting new friends.
Today, however, he was calm. He listened to the sounds of the lands, letting the winds carry what it would to him. Smiling, he opened his eyes. There was something unfamiliar in the air, in that it had been missing from this place for a while now. He stood, spotting a dog coming toward him.
"Hello there!" he barked, moving closer. He grinned, tail wagging, his body language completely casual and welcoming, "Sunchase! You've come home!"

It wasn't a surprise to see Risktaker...though it was strange, after having only had his mate and pups (though they were grown now) to see. "And it is good to be home, Pack-brother." He chuckled. "And soon enough, the rest of those who stayed behind should be trickling in. My pups have recovered health and..." He sighed and shook his head.
"Still no trace of Brightone. We looked, but the scent was too faint, too cold. It broke up too often for him to have been near." He still mourned the loss of his ever-smiling pup. But...there were things to do. "So everything has settled well? Did the Chief have any issues?" And why were some of the scents he'd grown up with missing?

Risktaker frowned.
"I'm sorry to hear that. I don't know how much you know about what's changed here. I guess it's a day for sad news..." Risk wasn't much for bearing such news, but he knew it was his duty and he did it with respect and honorable intentions.
Sighing, he shook his head.
"I'm afraid things were difficult after we left, and while we were away. The pack... well, illness took many lives, including that of the Blood of Nine Chiefs. Truthkeeper is Chief now, and is known as Wisdomchaser. I'm afraid we lost many of our old friends. But things have been rebuilding. There are lots of new faces around, and pups-a-plenty. Out of every tragedy there is still hope. And with that hope, we rebuild."

Sunchase was visibly shocked. His old friends...which of them were left? Were any left? He shook his head...he would find out later. He hung his head in silence for a moment, a short mourning for Shadowpaw and Morningstar. He'd loved the old Chief and his mate like they were his own father and mother.
Then he was alert and his attention back on Risktaker. "Well...I hope to meet all our new pack members soon. To hear there is new life after loosing so much...it is a good sign. How...how is Wisdomchaser holding up?" It would take some getting used to, her new name...but it fit his Chief. It fit her very well.

"Better," he said, eyes softening fondly. He knew how much pain his beloved had been in, and it still saddened him to think of it. But life moved forward, and so did they all, "she's fitting her role. An amazing leader, you'll see. She's very attuned to the Now, and the pack. I couldn't be more proud of her."
He grinned, looking a bit sly.
"And we have our own happiness coming to us. We're starting a family, and are expecting our pups soon. She's been a bit preoccupied with that, but I can't really blame her. I'm a bit nervous, really, but it'll all work out, right? That's our way."

Wisdomchaser was having pups?! Well, life certainly was going well for the pack, despite their loss! Sunchase nodded. "That's wonderful news...both that she's doing well in her new role, and that you two have pups coming!" No matter what blows the pack took, they always seemed to get right back up.
The golden wild dog looked around...and up at the expansive branches of the Father Tree. "You know...I didn't realize just how MUCH I missed here until my paws touched the borders." He chuckled. "No matter how far we went...this was always home..."

Risk couldn't help but beam. He was more than excited by the idea of being a father, and could hardly contain it. It was an infectious sort of anticipation, by accident or by his own coaxing. He just liked it when other people were as happy as he was. The same philosophy was not true for himself, however. He kept his bad moods to himself. They were few and far between, anyway.
He nodded.
"Yeah, I wasn't even here that long before we left, but I still missed the place by the time we got back. It's good, knowing you have somewhere that you really belong to. A home, more than just the lands or even Father Tree here. The pack is my family, my home, and I couldn't imagine being anywhere else for too long."

"Yeah...I think that's what kept the homesickness at bay while we were gone. The fact we still had our pack-brothers and pack-sisters with us." Home...home was where the heart was. And Sunchase knew he had many homes. Perhaps he wasn't the most fun-loving or carefree of dogs...but he loved each member of the pack fiercely, for they were his family.
"So...how much new blood is there?" Sunchase had to know if he was going to do his job properly...Had to know who to meet, and such.

Risk grinned.
"There's a lot. On our travels, as you know, we brought home many new faces. But some of them came with pups, to be born into the pack. There's so much youth and exuberance running around, it's tiring just watching them all. They really are bringing new life to this place, and not just because they're new to the world. It's just good to have pups around, I think, for everyone."
He smiled fondly, nodding, "and new members filter into the lands on occasion, joining us in our nighttime fun. Everyone, so far, has really fit in. And even those that are having some adjustment issues seem happy. I don't think I've even met everyone yet. It's tough. But a good kind of tough."
He nodded, wagging his tail.

He'd have many new faces to remember then. But...somehow, that didn't seem too bad. After all, new faces meant new blood. New blood meant the pack lived and would grow. It meant there would be no twisted blood.
"It's hard not to find happiness here." Sunchase let his seriousness go for the moment. "There's food, water, and family. And there's The Way." The all-encompassing Now of thought, that preserved only enough of the past's hurts to allow one to learn from them. "And of course it's a good tough. What good thing comes easily?"

Risktaker grinned. Some good things came easily, of course. His love of Wisdomchaser, for example, was the easiest thing in the world for him. His staying loyal to her was not in the least bit difficult. Serving the pack was effortless. Sure, there were hard times, but that didn't make his task difficult, per se. It was a complicated way of looking at things, but Risktaker just liked taking the fun in everything, even the bad times. Everything was an experience, and that was what he lived for.
"Well, it's good to have you home, my friend," he said, smiling and nodding his head low, looking up with bright, content eyes, "the pack will be a little more complete with you and yours now."
He stretched a bit, looking around contentedly. As long as there were others living beneath Father Tree, as long as they were all united and the Way guided them, Risktaker was happy. The hard times could come, and he'd be fine. They would get through it all together. That was their Way.

"It is good to be home, Risktaker. It is very good to be home." He stretched. "Well...I should likely go get acquainted with the new faces, then get to work, hm?" Sunchase loved the job he'd taken as an adult. Being a Scout fit him, mind, body, and soul.
