The pale blue mare had since made it back to her home in the woods. Though she had yet to see anyone she called family or friend. The embarrassment and shame of what had happened was still to fresh to speak about with people that just didn't understand the situation. Her sense of self and her heart seemed wounded over this. But why did her chest her so much? Was it that her best friend left her alone with such responsibility? She shook her head at the thought because she had a feeling that it wasn't her problem. "Vhy does this always happen?" she whispered softly. "Vhy?" Was there something wrong with her? Had he seen the blemish on her soul that her mother had? And now she lost him, forever.
Her eyes filled with wetness and her heart grew heavy with grief. Nevara gathered together the baskets and took turns gently rocking them with her muzzle. She only hoped that this gesture gave them the comfort they deserved. With that thought in mind the mare closed her eyes, letting the gathering tears fall from her eyes.

It had been far too long since the blue and white mare had stepped away form her family's territory. Too long since she had left Cosette and Twilight to their own devices, too long since she had allowed herself the luxury of getting away. What had once been a time of carefree bliss had swiftly transformed in to a life of regret and pain. . . . Even now, knowing that her daughter had started a new life without her in it, it didn't take away the regret Eponine felt.
She had made many a mistake as a younger mare, and the emotional scars haunted her even now. Everything that had transpired between Ezriel and herself; and then the abandonment of both the mutant and her daughter. It had been a heavy burden to bear, especially with the knowledge that instead of embracing her daughter with love she had turned her away with regret and tears. How could she have been so blind as to not see the blessing that Cassiel had been? How could she have been so selfish as to think her life ruined, especially when Ezriel took her son Rue?
No, things hadn't worked out like she had originally intended but her daughter and son should never have been thought of as a mistake; they had been gifts from the gods, gifts she had mistakenly and accidentally turned away. She had cared for Cassiel as best she could, and her family had also helped, but the damage had been done . . . .and now she woke up every morning wondering exactly where her daughter and son had gone. She even thought about Ezriel and wondered where the gruff stallion's life had taken him. . . .
Though she was alive and healthy, Eponine also understood that she lived a life empty and hollow. Where her daughter should have been present there was nothing but a memory and a reminder of the tears that had been shed.
Heaving a sigh, Eponine pushed her way through the surrounding foliage, head lowered and brow furrowed in thought. Life had lost its sparkle, its shine; happily ever afters went unnoticed and untouched and the daydreamer now lived her life under a silent and invisible raincloud. She wasn't depressed, but she wasn't happy either. . . it was too hard to move on with nothing to show. Deep in thought, she was unaware of the close proximity of Nevara even though her scent was more than apparent. It was only with the sound of movement that the mare lifted her head and pricked her ears.
She paused in her shuffle, blue eyes refocusing on her surroundings. New scents tickled her nose and a flash of ghostly pale colour could be seen through the nearby bushes. Oh dear. . . Was she interrupting someone or something? For a moment the mare hesitate, unsure if she should continue forward. Certainly any animal that was one the defensive might have fled or attacked. . . . but was that the sound of . . . . tears? It was incredibly faint, but with how long she had wept and how frequently she caught her daughter in silent sobs the aged mare had learned fast the sound of sadness.
Closer inspection through the bushes proved there was a mother cradling two baskets. . . and she didn't look at all joyous at the sight. "Ex. . Excuse me, m-m-m-miss," she stammered, her voice gentle as ever. "B-b-but w-w-will you be all r-r-right?" Eponine lifted her head fully, peeking over the foliage at Nevara but keeping her distance respectful. She didn't want to frighten the younger mare. . . .
But why tears? How familiar was this scene before her. . . how dreadfully, dreadfully so!

The trail of tears continued to flow, gathering and growing around her hooves. This wasn't how things were suppose to be. Ever. Wasn't this suppose to be a happy time in a couples life? But they weren't a couple. Just buddies. And she had scared him away from her, perhaps forever. It was all too much to comprehend on her own right now. Where was her family when she needed them?
No, she never wanted her father and brother to see her like this. It was all too embarrassing. And didn't want to hear how she'd get over it and move on. How did they know? They didn't really know what lurked in her heart and mind.
A shuffle of the bushes near her and the soft voice of what appeared to be a nice mare snapped her out of her self-loathing pity. She lifted her head and tried her best to smile, but only achieved a half-hearted one. "Hello" She blinked her eyes quickly to get a better grip on her emotions and nodded. "Yeah.. I'm just going vrough some... hard times." She answered. The evidence of her sobbing running deeply in her choked up voice.
How she hated being caught doing this. She had only cried one other time and that was upon her mothers leaving. "I'm sorry about vis.." She flipped her hair out of her face, cleared her throat, and quickly shifted her body around to meet the mare head on. Leaving the baskets just in muzzles length away from her. "I usually don't see many around vese parts... so if i startled you.. I didn't mean..."

Eponine gave a small shake of her head as the young female apologized for her tears. Her expression was gentle, though her brows were slightly knit in concern. There were baskets nearby, and Eponine didn't want to frighten the mare or have her grow defensive due to her presence. Still, her eyes did linger for a moment on the small, wicker casings and her heart couldn't help but seize.
Cassiel and Rue. . . . Rue, the one son she had never met, had never been given a chance to get to know. And Cassiel, the daughter she had involuntarily driven away. Still, though the memories haunted her, the mare told herself once more that she would not focus on that negativity. Not now, especially when this other mare seemed to be in such a wretched state!
"Please," she murmured softly, "you d-d-don't have to apologize f-f-for anything." All Eponine could hope was that her tears weren't for the young foals within those baskets. She'd walked that path before and it had ended terribly. . . . "I've walked many a hard p-p-path myself, I d-d-definitely know how it goes." Her words were quiet but sincere. She wasn't trying to be patronizing and she wasn't trying to belittle the pain of the other. . . She just wanted the stranger to know that she truly could understand such gut-wrenching pain.
Even if she had no idea what the source might be.
"You d-didn't startle me," the blue mare replied, "b-b-but I was and am c-c-concerned. Is . . . . Is th-there anyth-th-thing I can do?" She practically pleaded with the mare, hoping she could give some comfort or kindness to the tear-stained stranger.

Nevara smiled, her eyes blurry with tears that continued to gather. But at least she was calm enough now for rational thought.
This mare, a mare she had never met touched something inside her that meant so much. A stranger asking her, sincerely if she needed anything.
She sniffled, shaking her head slightly. "Vank you. You don't know vat it means to me." This mare's company was more than enough to keep her mind off of what was going on in her head. "Did you mind... sitting viv me for a vile?"
What was she thinking? She barely knew this mare. And for all she knew, she was probably just asking out of curtisy.
"It's just.. " she sighed a bit looking down at the ground, her eyes slowly seeking out the baskets beside her. "I don't know vat to do..." she turned her head towards the mare once again, her tears suddenly making another appearance. She just couldn't help it. Everytime she thought about her mother, or her... what was he anyway? Her friend? Her mate? She just didn't think she could do this alone. They deserved better than what she had, they deserved more than just the love of their mother.

Eponine could hardly bring herself to believe that this mare was in a position she had been once, long, long ago. At least, that's how it looked to Eponine. To see a mare crying over baskets . . . even if perhaps her tears were for a different reason (and it very well could be!) the pale blue mare just couldn't shake the memory. Her deepest regret was for falling in to such a depression after Ezriel had abandoned her, had taken her only son and walked away. Worse, she had come to neglect her overly sensitive daughter, had caused so much hurt without meaning too . . . .It was a shadow that still lingered, and one that she would likely never forgive herself for.
But that was neither here nor there. Regardless for this strangers tears, regardless of the reasons or the memories they stirred, Eponine couldn't help but focus on Nevara. She needed someone, and though they were but strangers, she vowed to assist her however possible. She had been on the side of need many a time, it was only proper that she repay the world for the kindnesses it had once granted her. A kind word and a little support could go a long, long way. . . .
"There, th-th-there," she murmured softly, "No thanks are necessary, m'd-d-dear. I'm but an old m-m-mare with no place in particular to g-g-go," she smiled gently at Nevara and gave a small flick of her white tail. She wasn't ancient, but she certainly was no spring chicken. She had lived a quiet life, one that had its moments of tragedy, but she certainly was in no rush! Eponine wasn't a selfish creature, and certainly wasn't going to turn her back on one in need.
Taking a small step closer, more towards Nevara than the baskets, she made sure not to crowd her or cause her alarm, but she did want to bring the discussion in to a bit more intimate setting. She wanted the younger mare to know she wasn't sticking around for superficial or obligatory reasons. "I'm Eponine," she gave her name softly, and offered her another small smile. "Foals can b-b-be overwhelming sometimes, especially as a new m-m-m-mother." She didn't want to poke and prod and assume, but she also didn't want to demand the mare give her her life story.
She wanted to ease in to the conversation, to at least let Nevara know she wasn't alone in her worry or fear. But she did need more information - was there a father? A family to turn to? Any sort of support or friendship she could fall upon or request aid? So many questions, but . . . all at once wasn't the way to go about it. Hopefully the mare would open up to her in due time, it was the only way Eponine could truly help.
