Ok anyone who reads this message. I'm doing something that will probably end up as pointless again. I'm going to program a FF style battle system game (most likely text based unless I find a skilled programmer to help me). Unfortunately for me, this task is definitely going to be pointless if I create it and play it by myself. So I am planning on making it with two modes and giving it to others to play.
The first mode will be a typical fight against the computer mode, and the other will be a mode somewhat like FFXII where you tell your people what to do if something else happens.
This second mode will allow for people to save their parties and give them to other players who can then use that party file and their own and have the two parties fight each other based on the rules that the two players set up. In essence adding a PvP mode to a game that doesn't have an internet based multiplayer.
Now, while creating this game I have come to the conclusion that I don't have the time to write up the program itself, stats & skills for monsters, and all the in between stuff. So I was wondering... #1 Would anyone be interested in such a game at all? I don't need any die hard players or anything, just some people to share the final product with. #2 If I put up a simple outline for things such as a creature profile would anyone be willing to create some monsters and stuff for me to copy and paste directly into my program. (like stats and skills for a malboro)
Keep in mind anyone who is willing to help with my insane idea of a project, this could be very long in the making, and will most likely not be completed for weeks or even months.

Should the game have levels for characters for the PvP mode, or should leveling be limited to the PvE portion of the game?

This definitely has an interesting concept behind it... I'd probably play it, given the opportunity... I can probably help with finding monster stats and whatnot. That shouldn't be too hard.

it's not so much finding them as creating them, the game would most likely be unbalanced if we use pre-done stats. This is mostly because I don't have the time to put such a complex design in the stats like FF7 and such, they went in pretty deep and made some things affect each other. I'm going to make it pretty basic so that it doesn't eat your computer alive trying to run the program.
Either way, I still need some feedback on those questions, because I can't do much programming until I know what general direction I'm going in. (The classes for example, I can't make the character creation part of the program until I know what people even want.)
This program is being made for the benefit of everyone, and not just me. So I need to know what people want to see come out of the game for me to be able to do it.

i have a lot of free time and i could think up a few stats for you like i think that the black mage would be combined with a summoner and the dragon was a powerful fighting style and its stats are pretty easy to come up with dragons usually have high attack, medium defensive, and an average speed but thats always made up for with the skill jump where he leaves the screen for one turn then jumps on the enemy( or enemies depending on equipment combos)so those would be two good types of characters to use.

... please tell me you didn't just suggest combing the summoner and BLACK MAGE! Are you trying to unbalance the game? More to the point are ou trying to destroy Final Fantasy tradition? If the summoner is getting mixed with anything it will be the white mage.
Though speaking of classes, I'm thinking of removing warrior since other classes cover that class very easy, and maybe remove the mime. mix time mage with something, summoner with white mage, and mix gambler with something or remove it.

I don't think you can remove warrior. The other ones do sort of cover it, but... it's like offering drinks and not having water as one of the options. Did that make any sense? I'd rather leave white mage and summoner separate, just out of personal preference, but either way would work. You might not want to use Blue Mage; I don't know exactly how you're planning on doing this, but it sounds difficult to program that.
You definitely, I think need Warrior, Black Mage, White Mage, Red Mage, Summoner, Knight, Thief, Dragoon, Bard... and some variety of different knights, though I'm not sure which. On the other hand, I think the best to take out would be Hunter, Time Mage, and Mime, and probably at least one of the different knights.
Monsters... The big ones I can find that you don't have would be Abadon, Adamantoise, Ahriman, Basilisk, Bomb, Catoblepas, Cockatrice, Coeurl, Flan, Garuda, Goblin, Imp, Iron Gian, Lamia, Mandragora, Ochu, Ogre, Sahagan, Sand Worm, Zu, and some sort of dragons. Maybe something like a Magic Pot, too?

woops i didnt meen to put black mage i was distracted that day and i had someone else typeing for me since i had to do something they miss heard me sry and why not use a dark knight as the warrior. mimic: able to copy allies attack or learn them with setting them on it in the ability menu............sometimes.......na i think it would be alright to have one but its more of a cheating person since they can copy others move i mean one person could do an ability only they can do right before the mimic and then the mimic does it too.

yea, warrior was kind of replaced by knight in a lot of Final Fantasies, so we may be debating over that. As for time mage... what you want to remove that and have no haste or slow? I was thinking maybe mix it with black mage like usual, except haste, make that mixed with white magic. You might be right about the blue mage, but I'm not sure if I want to remove it or not. BTW Raven, any particular reason you said we should keep the bard but toss the hunter? I mean hunter has been in just as many if not more FF's than the bard class... even if it has been a weird take on the class(Wakka). As for mime I think I will trash it, it seems like such a pointless class. Next, I'm thinking summoner and beast master getting mixed maybe. Unless you all think it should be trashed instead.
I'm updating monster and job/classes lists.

This is what I was thinking, mix time magic in with white and black.
The hunter? Well, I honestly can't say I think of Wakka as one, and I really don't think they've been in as many games as bards... Plus, even if you count Wakka, he's the only story-important one there's ever been, whereas for bards you have Edward, Hurdy (or so I've heard), and the big emphasis on Songstresses in X-2.
Maybe primarily a summoner with some beast master traits?

The reason I mention hunter, is because by a technicality, any ranged class that doesn't fall into any other class is a hunter, That includes gunners, which if you noticed aren't on that list. So if we look at it this way, Vincent and possibly Barret are both hunter class. As for the bard, I've never used them much because I never played the lower games, and in any higher ones with bard type classes it was always 3 party system, and with only 3 members, I can't afford to have one person just using a single buff or debuff on my party or the enemy group.
Either way, we need to come to a decision on the classes/jobs, and their stats so I can make some progress on the hero and party creation parts of the program, which are pretty much the starting blocks of this entire thing.
So I want everyones opinion on ALL classes, and if anyone is willing, stats for those classes.
