.__. I know this is very very late.... but family/moving/school/ect took up most of my and will again in the near future. I wanted to give you guys notice of that but.... I didn't have much time too.... yeah so heres this, don't care if it counts for anything(since it's so late) but here it is (I just really wanted to finish it/post it anyway).... sorry it's so long too.

Quote:
The night sky was clear and the people slept with ease unknown to many. The streets within and the waters below the magically suspended city were still and neither creature of water nor beast land stirred. To those who knew no better, this was surely a sign of good a sign that all was quite well in the world. Unfortunately, some stillness, some silence is a sign of quite the opposite and this night held that sort of deathly peace.

Far away, where no trace of light natural light might ever be found darkly clad mystics and sorcerers conspired- whispering, chanting. They were surrounding a deep pit who's darkness was more like a black hole than a pit should normally be. The figure who was no doubt the head of the foul gathering pulled up from behind him a screaming and struggling thing. It's species, gender, and age are and were of little concern; it's on;y purpose there on that particular night was to bleed, to bleed and die. Perhaps the thing plead for it's life or perhaps it waled nonsense, mortal terror would be reasonable enough cause for either. From the two figures on the leads left and right were produced one knife each, both handed to the lead as their chanting rose far past a whisper. The lead figure, above the chanting spoke a separate set of words plunging the two knives into the screeching sacrifice and then kicking it into the abyssal pit. As the thing fell deeper and deeper the chanting had become even louder and yet so much colder.

From the depths of the pit appeared a bright pink and yellow mist which seemed to take on an almost solid form and as it did so the wild chanting suddenly stopped. Strange runes that were long ago carved into the walls glowed with blues and greens and each of the mystics and sorcerers knelt before the form- all but their leader. This one stepped forward and lowered the hood that the others still kept and in words only the mist creature could hear orders were given and conditions were agreed to. A pact was made, four more sacrifices would be given in the coming nights and a plague of the foulest kind was set free. The creature dissipated leaving no trace of it's arrival but a small stain on the stone flood where the pit had been, and the runes on the wall that still lightly glowed.

A child stirred in the city, she woke from one nightmare only to face another. She opened his window, and stared out that the beautiful land that she loved so much. Rubbing her eyes she leaned farther out of the window and was the first to see the strange miasma creep through the distance. "Brother, brother wake up!" She spoke in hushed tones shaking her brother in a nearby bed. "A fog, come look at the strange, pretty fog!"

Grudgingly the boy got up and went to the window too. He gasped, "Incredible."

"It looks like... it's getting closer..." the young girl said quietly.

The older boy turned to his sister and cautiously asked, "How much closer?"

"It was over the trees at first but now it's on the first bridges and getting into the water." The girl hadn't taken her eyes off of the pink faintly glowing gaseous wave.

The mist was rolling fast- purposefully and it gave the boy a sickening feeling that he hoped his sister shared. He then closed the window tight and filled the cracks with hardening mushroom mush, their dinner from a few hours ago, then nailed his sheet over the window. He gave the same treatment to the door. "Give me your sheets too." He ordered his now anxious sibling.

She did, but then asked, "Why? Whats wrong?"

Panic in his voice horribly hidden he said, "That fog is wrong, and I don't want it in if I can help it." He looked at his sister and took her by the shoulders, "Do not open that door for any reason." She tried to protest but he spoke over her, "We can't help Mom, it's probably already gotten in. We'd have no time to...."

Out side the living mist crawled over the bridges and spilled into the water, infecting the fish and frogs who started eating each other. It got into the stable and woke the animals who became infected and started to rampage. It slipped into the houses and infected the people awake and asleep. They too became hungry and enraged.

The morning came, the wrenched fog was gone and things were once again quiet. The fish, frogs, other animals and people were quiet too. A evil pseudo life let the dead to still walk and the half dead to still hunger, if any truly lived through that night they might wish they hadn't.

A group of travelers approached with the rising of the sun and knew nothing of the nights horror, but they would soon find out. The clear morning sky, the quiet forest, the peaceful air over the city, the stillness of the water below it gave no sign that something wicked was afoot. With eagerness and hopeful anticipation they went forth to face what they never thought possible.

Two elves, one in a blue cloak, Corethmen, and one in a red cloak, Thaeranor, stood at the edge of the cliff, over looking the lake and the elven city upon it. In the mountains behind it, several waterfalls were roaring their way into the lake, creating a subtle mist that ebbed its way into the lake.
Corethmen pointed to one of the large "islands" of rock. Upon it was a small barrack for the city guards. That way, they could always be at their post, even at night.
"That, my young friend, is where you will live." Corethmen said as he pointed. This younger elf, Thaeranor, nodded. He always remained silent. Why talk for no reason? But he was excited; very excited. After all, his apprenticeship as a ranger under Beryu, a very powerful moon elf, was over, and the tenure as a guard of his home town, a 5 year possition, wa finally here!

Meanwhile, two others, a Dwarf by the name Kuldun, and a Moon Elf named Tharigan, walked the path to the first bridge. Tharigan had been gone from his home town for over twenty years, meeting many friends, including Kuldun. But, alas, they had all been slaughtered in the orc wars two years back, and now only these two remained. Thus, he felt it right to return home. Kuldun felt oblidged to tag along, and so he had.
"I don't care if yur durn'd kin despise me!" Kuldun repeated. "I'm going in!"
"Fine." Tharigan replied, "Just don't anger them. They willn't hesitate to put an arrow in your back."
"They'll find me axe in their faces first!" Growled the surly dwarf.
Tharigan could only laugh.

Granemor the old withered wizard slowly held out his arm to point at the out post on the outskirts of the ancient city. "That my.... That is your new workplace" Granemor said with a cough at the start that was forced. He had nearly called this new recruit his friend, a title that Granemor did not like to give out so easily.

"Yes sir. But what were you about to say elder?" The young recruit Teran asked in a inquisitive voice. The young recruit was of the mountain elf faction one that was different than most. He was a rarity among even the most traveled adventurers.

"I was about to call you an 'foolish young elf who needs to take his nose out of my buisness'!" Granemor snapped back trying to cover his weakness with a comment that seemed to mean for just a minor slip up on Granemor's side. Then Granemor nearly collapsed as his old friend Brongur the dwarf clapped him on the back.

"My dwarven stubborness to cover your mistakes has finally worn on you!" The dwarf roared with laughter. "I guess your not what you used to be, you used to be able to go blow to blow with me. Albeit only for a short while." Brongur had been chatting with Elegost the ranger over which was a better way to crack an orc's skull, axe or arrow.

Teran was quickly there to help the elder back up and because of his heritage he was not as frail as a forest elf like Elegost or gunthar elf like Granemor. Granemor got up without Teran's help and shoved him back, Granemor didn't have anything against the young elf and actually found the young one's company enjoyable but he saw that as a weakness for he was Teran's boss and employer and he must treat all of his employees the same. "Bah, I made no mistake except for taking you along on the journey! You rock-eater!" Granemor snapped to Brongur.

"Well at least I am not a trickster who can only create a flame!" Brongur snapped back without missing a beat. This had always been a game between the two.

"Go back in your cave with the rest of your insect brethern!"

"I ain't no durned insect you senial fool!"

"Your short stature begs to differ!"

"I will slug you to fix your eye sight you old fool!"

The insults passed between the two for many minutes with Elegost and Teran watching and trying to hold back the laugheter of the ridicoulness of some of the insults. "Cool it off you two!" Both Elegost and Teran said at the same time both going to shove one of the bickering elders. They both found themselves plummeting hundreds of feet to the water below, the elders had had speed that was surprising and both had expected the young ones to try that trick.

Granemor waved his hand in front of himself and finished the last triggering word in a spell that would slow the two plummeting elves down so the two would not die. "Foolish young ones need to learn to respect their elders!" Granemor said as he started walking again to the city.

Brongur nodded and added "They need to learn to keep their noses out of others buisness!" He followed his long time friend always amazed at his friend's magical skill even the most advanced spells seemed to come to Granemor with ease.
