Fox stretched out her legs, letting the spring sunshine warm her muscles. She should be training..every part of her was saying that it was time to do her laps, or to be jumping fallen logs or - well anything except laying on the floor, idly wasting time. Her body was saying that, but her left hind leg was also saying that she'd pulled a muscle rock face climbing the previous day, and her brain knew that if she didn't rest now she could wind up making herself lame for life and that simply wouldn't do.

So here she was, prone in the grass, listening to the water run by in the nearby river, tail flicking at early insects, and her ears listening for the sound of the birds nearby taking flight suddenly for any reason.

The mare was never idle if she could help it..but she supposed she could suffer this rest stuff for as long as she had to. She dozed off, head drooping a little.

The world held many mysteries to all creatures. More to a young mind then any other. Most young creatures voiced there curiosities to their parents in the form of questions. Lamb, however, preferred to search out the answers for himself. Today's mystery? What made the water decide to flow?

His hooves clattered over the stones that lined the rivers bank as he followed the rushing water. Many questions were forming in his mind as he studied it. The first being, where was it headed? He lifted his head hoping to see it's destination displayed before them. It could not be seen but what could be seen was something in the grass off to the side.

The colt stopped walking and stared at the shape for a moment. It wasn't moving. With a small frown he changed course, the water hadn't left for ages he could follow it later, this was something bizarre that he had never seen before. As he came closer the shape became clearer and he realised this was not just some lump, it was a horse. What was it doing out here? He crept close and stared for a moment. It was clear this was a female with odd markings on her coat. She was not dead, thankfully, her chest was moving.

Who was she though? He leaned forward and sniffed at her back as though her scent would give him a clue.

'I'm alive you know..' Fox said, her voice a little drowsy sounding at first, but she didn't sound unkind or snappy. She'd heard the colt's approach as soon as he'd neared the river, the sound of hooves on shifting stones was unmistakable, and she had gauged the size of the one approaching from the noise as well.

She shifted, flicking her tail to one side as she shifted her weight so that she could look at the young male without craning her neck. He'd obviously been driven by curiosity to see what she was doing on the ground, and she was in a mellow enough state to invite conversation from a foal.

He jumped at the sound of her voice and his tail went straight out behind him. For a moment he stood frozen like that simply staring at her as she turned to look at him. He had known she was alive but still hearing her and seeing her move was somewhat shocking. That shock, however, was fading fairly quickly and he slowly lowered his tail.

Giving a little nod of his head to great her he smiled and looked her over once more. Along with a small sampling of her voice there were a few new details to note. While there weren't many more details there were a few. Like another strange marking on her coat just under her eye and the color of her eyes themselves. A captivating light blue color that he found himself staring at without realizing that he was.

When he finally noticed what he was doing he blinked a few times but didn't look away. "Lamb." He said softly thinking back to the last creature he met. It seemed giving names was the thing to do.

She flicked her tail again, swatting away an irritating fly that kept alighting on a hind leg. The foal was fairly interesting, very dark, and he had the leonine tail that often denoted a Unicorn..but he had no horn.

'And what are you doing out here on your own little Lamb?'
For now Fox would assume he was on his own, she could neither see nor smell anyone else in the vicinity from where she lay, and she had only heard the one set of hooves approach.

'I am known as Fox.' she gave her without preamble, she wasn't one of those that thought power came from knowing ones name.

"Investigating." He said simple taking his eyes off her for a moment. He nodded his head towards the rushing stream water to indicate exactly what he was out her doing. Then a second later he returned his gaze to the mare.

At the mention of her name he blinked. She was called Fox? She did not look a thing like a fox but then again he supposed he did not look at all like a lamb. For starters he was dark and sleek as night and not fluffy and white like cotton. A name was only a name, however, so he did not think on it any longer.

"Fox sleeps by the stream often?" He asked not minding how simple minded he sounded at the moment. Words weren't everything. They didn't make one intelligent by using large ones nor did they make you a fool for using small ones. Most times he did not bother to speak at all and he knew himself to be quite intelligent, especially for a foal.

'And what would a little Lamb be investigating?' Fox shifted position so that she was laying in a more upright position, moving the hind leg that she'd injured so that she wasn't resting on it in any way.

'If you could call what I'm doing sleep, then no.' she replied, looking the dark colt over again, noting the strange markings, and the..well she wasn't sure what it was that adorned his chest. It looked much like the decorations that the two-leggers took to wearing.

'This is rest, I pulled a muscle in my hind leg and rather than aggrivate it by moving around, I am resting it for a day. Though I dislike idleness like this..'

She was going to make him talk it seemed. He let out a barely noticeable sigh before answering, "Water." Then he quickly closed his mouth once again to listen. What she was saying seemed a bit strange to him at first. It had looked like she was sleeping. Well, actually it had looked almost like she was dead but that didn't much matter. His eyebrows raised a little as he debated about asking what she had been doing then. Before he could make up his mind she gave him the answer he wanted.

Dark pink eyes wandered over to the leg that she held in a strange way. So, that's what she was doing. Resting an injury. That made sense. A note was made in his mind that not all that appeared to be sleeping actually were. Not three seconds after that he moved around her and took a closer look at her injured leg. He was curious about the nature of this particular injury.

"Dislike rest?" He asked without lifting his head from it's current position. There were some things he could not figure out just from observing.

Fox was gratified that the colt didn't seem one to let his mouth run on and on and on..Young Soquili often didn't appear to have brakes, not when they got talking. Maybe he talked little because he was shy, but he'd been bold enough to approach her in the first place so she guessed it was for another reason.

'I see,' she replied. Still, getting a drink on ones own at his age was a bold enough move as is.
'Your family is in the area?'

She nodded;
'I rest when my body has to, I'd never run myself into the ground. But I like to keep active, keep myself fit and my muscles in peak condition for when I need to use them in a situation that requires me to fight.' she looked at his questing eyes.
'You won't see it, it's an internal injury.'

He lifted his head at her question. His family? The corners of his mouth turned down in thought as he turned his head to look back the way he had come. Unless he had been trailed by someone he was pretty sure his family was not in the area. At least not in the immediate area. An hours walk or so would land him back home. So, he gave a shake of his head to signal that his family was nowhere near.

It was his intent to go back to his quiet investigation but she was answering his question so instead he simply listened. His eyes wandered over her as she spoke and he made mental notes on the things she said to be stored with the rest of her information. 'Fox, an active horse, a fighter, has an injury to leg that can't be seen.'

The word fighter stuck out in his mind and he went over it a few times. "Fight?" He asked locking his eyes on her and going still as a statue with the exception of is swaying tail. He wanted to hear everything she had to say because he had not been aware that there was really anything to fight in the world.

It had been a long time since she'd run with a herd that had foals his age in it. She was sure that they had not been allowed to wander far from the others..but these had been wandering herds, and she supposed that if one stayed in the same place than they could be sure of the safety of the surroundings.

She pushed herself upwards, folding her front legs again so that she was laying even more upright now. Fox gave the colt a strange look when he repeated what she'd just said, as though he was committing it to memory.

'Yes, fight. Sometimes it is necessary, against predators..or even just to cross a border into another herd's territory and words are not enough to pass through.'

His tail twitched slightly as she shifted yet again. He was no expert on healing or injuries but he got the feeling that it would do her better to lay still. He frowned in a slightly disapproving manner but made no comment on it. Besides, she was speaking now.

"Predators and herds..." He muttered more to himself then anything still standing mostly frozen in place. Home for him was a small secluded grove of trees. The path to which was narrow and well guarded by his father. Needless to say nothing got through. Even out on his own he hadn't really encountered anything dangerous and other horses were more willing to let him through. Perhaps he had not encountered the right type of herd? Or in this case perhaps it was the wrong type. Investigation was needed eventually.

For now, however, there was something else. "You get through...strong." There was a hint of admiration in his words. He was impressed.

Fox caught sight of the frown, and purposely moved herself a little bit more again to see if it was that which had elicited it. She wondered at this strange, quiet colt, more and more the longer they talked..well the longer she talked and he listened, absorbing her words like a small sponge.

'I get through.' she affirmed, with a nod of her head that caused a length of her mane to fall into her face. She shrugged it out of the way with a quick motion.

'My strength is through long and hard practice and training...but I'm not perfect, and I have lost battles. My weight and height are a disadvantage sometimes, but I counter it with speed and agility.'

Catching sight of her moving once again he stepped forward carefully. His tail wrapped around one of his hind legs before he nudged at her shoulder. Still he said nothing about why he was acting the way he was. It wasn't like him to speak about his motives anyway. He would answer questions sometimes and occasionally would voice a question or comment without prompting. Silence, however, was his normal. Silence let him listen better so he could better understand.

As he tried to get her to relax more listening was exactly what he was doing and all the while he made small mental notes on her. After a long while he uncoiled his tail and gave it a small flick. "Seeing weakness strength." He said softly turning his head towards her face. His expression was completely serious. For one to recognize their weakness and work with it or around it for their advantage were strong indeed. It was not something just anyone could do. It was something even his father hadn't quite wrapped his mind around yet.

"Impressive..."

Fox smiled inwardly; so it was because she had moved. Not only was this colt strangely quiet he seemed to show a care for her wellbeing despite the fact that they'd only just met. His behaviour really was most unusual for one of his age, and she wondered if his parents were the same way or if he'd tumbled from his basket like this.

'I'm not going anywhere,' she said archly, looking at him from between her mane that persisted in being annoying. She raised a brow at his words.

'It's my body. I've had it since I was born after all. To get to my age and not know it's strengths and weaknesses would be foolish.' her tail flicked at a pesky fly, and she managed to catch it, sending it falling into the grass.

'As it is, I have no family. I don't have a permanent herd. So I have to rely on myself, and to know that what I am relying on won't fail me.'
