Squad 1: Captain Commander: The role of division one is simple. The captain of the squad being the head of the Gotei 13, the squad below he/she will only strive to protect the commander and relay documents and news to the other squads.

Squad 2:Specialists: This squad has many roles within the soul society. From holding the Maggots Nest to guard duties this squad maintains the peace and stability of the soul society.

Squad 3:Strategists: Division 3 is the best of the best when it comes to strategy on and off the battlefield. Division 3's main job is too be the first on the battle scene especially in the World Of The Living. Division 3 finishes their job, and Division 10 comes and secures the area and monitors the WOTL.

Squad 4: Medical: Squad 4 is the head of the medical unit. They may not be the best in combat but they are vital in keeping shinigami alive. A large medical wing is built off of their chambers to hold sick or wounded shinigami.

Squad 5: Kidou Skills: Through out the history of the Gotei all who have become a member of squad 5 have seemingly grown to master the art of kidou. Many who become members have left to join the Kidou Corps. who are the head of kidou knowledge.

Squad 6: Law & Punishment: Members of squad 6 are well versed in Law and know them like the back of their hand. Much like a mini police force, squad 6 has the duty of maintaining peace and order.

Squad 7: Hand To Hand Specialists: Not much could be said about this squad. Many of its members and captains have the tendency to keep to themselves but hold a great hand to hand combat skill.

Squad 8: Reports & Files: Seemingly not as important as the other squads, 8 has the pride of a clean and neat office as well as a perfect reputation of being on time. Within their building they hold files and paperwork for every shinigami. The lack of work sometimes gives the squad a lot of time on their hands.

Squad 9: Investigations & Seireitei News Magazine: Squad 9 has the pride of issuing Seireitei News Magazine to those of the seireitei. This small thin magazine is chock full of information about captains and their squads as well as new results of contests. Though it is not a huge role in the soul society this squad is still skilled in combat and will fight on a moments notice.

Squad 10: Monitors Of the Wolrd Of The Living: First on the scene in the world of the living, squad 10 has been at the front of many major battles against the Arrancar and Bount. Saving human lives is their primary duty.

Squad 11: Melee Combat: The Eleventh Division is the melee combat Division with a specialization in swords-only combat, forgoing the other Shinigami arts. A common theme for the Captain of the 11th Division is to take on the name Kenpachi or the best swordsman of each generation.

Squad 12: Shinigami Research & Development Institute: Over 300 years ago by former Captain Kisuke Urahara. Members are tasked with research and collection of data and samples, something both the current and previous Captains are very enthusiastic about, though not to the same extreme.

Squad 13: Communications: Making sure everyone in the soul society is up to date, this squad is sure to maintain the knowledge of the squads. They have also been known to assist squad 10 in their duties.
