Dory could watch the sea all day, the endless rushing waves as the tide rolled in, and then out again. It was always new, every tide made different patterns on the sand, or washed up new shells or stones for her collection.
What was old was herself..or that's how she felt. Washed up like a piece of flotsam. When she remembered that she was lonely it hit her like a tidal wave, erasing all the joy she had in life. Everyday was a new adventure..until she remembered.
She could use a friend..someone that would stick around, and was taller than her knee. Her familiar Squishy was a good friend, but couldn't really relate in the same way. Besides, she liked to go her own way, and travel which Dory couldn't do so much as she would lose her way. She wanted a mate as well - at least, she when she remembered that having someone love her for who she was - then she wanted one. A friend would be good as well though.
It was time to head inland again. Not so very many land dwellers ever came this way, and she knew..well thought she knew that when she had gone away from her sea she found others to talk to. She wandered up and away from the shore, moving across the dunes and heading towards the river so that she could follow it and hopefully not get lost. Moments later she was wandering along, a smile on her lips as she'd quite forgotten her purpose. Now she was just walking for fun.

Diego was out for an adventure.
Again.
The decorated stallion started many days this way, with the grand idea of just choosing a direction, launching himself into the sky and flying until his wings got tired. Unfortunately -- or fortunately, perhaps, if he'd thought it through -- he never actually left or got farther than halfway across Soquili lands before something turned him back.
Sometimes it was a shift in the wind. More often, it was his stomach. And sometimes, he spotted something from up above that he just had to get closer to. Like today.
She was brightly colored, wasn't she? Diego thought as he changed direction with a tip of his wing and circled back to have another look at Dory from above. Caught the eye, certainly. Another swoop, shadow crossing over her on the ground and he flew back in the first direction, then turned again. Lower and lower, closer he got until his hooves touched the ground and he trotted a few steps, slowing as he folded his wings and tucked them against his sides.
"Hello," he called out as he got closer. "Whatcha doing way out here by yourself?

What was that? Dory caught the sweeping and large shadow out of the corner of her eye, following it and then realising it was coming back. She stopped as it passed over her, and again, and finally she looked skywards to see what was creating the dancing black shape. The sun caught her eyes, and she had to blink, causing light spots to dance in her vision. By the time they had cleared, there was a winged stallion on the ground in front of her. Was he talking to her? She darted a look around to see if there was anyone else right near..no. So he was talking to her.
'Hi,' she said, greeting him with a smile. 'Where did you come from all of a sudden?' Of course, she'd forgotten that she'd just been watching his shadow..maybe it would come back to her. 'Oh? Umm, I live here? At least I think I do..' her words trailed off as she chewed on her bottom lip.
