I decided to order those awesome fake fangs that you make custom molds with. You know, just because. They looked cool and I had the money for 'em. It wasn't like I was gonna start wearing them all the time, and wear eye makeup and black trenchcoats or something... it was far less convoluted. So, I get them in the mail, start working on it and make the mistake of coming downstairs with them. Mom sees them, freaks out, calls me a freakshow((jokingly, but still...)). Then she gets mad when I tell her I can't move them for 5 minutes so they set. She then starts yelling at me and tells me I'll do whatever she says. This just makes me angry and I agree to do it if she pays me back for them. This just makes it worse... She then calls my Dad and they team up on me, saying it's "socially unacceptable" and for losers. They then proceed to talking poorly about goths, which I strongly disagreed with. I'm not one to be super judgmental... Long story short, they tell me it's acting out from some kind of deep seated issue, and mom wouldn't shut up about it... so I told her that if it is an issue, it's more than likely from her ways of raising me... I got called childish, weird, and all sorts of other things... I mean, I don't drink, smoke, do drugs... I don't have any piercings or tattoos or anything like that, but this was apparently so bad that it turned into an hour long debate in which I had to give them up... I swear, I'm so mad/saddened/hurt right now that I can barely think straight. Any opinions?

One goth to another: If you want to provoke, you got to take the consequences... If you cant take it, then dont do it.

My mom or ant never told me anything like that. My grandfather on the other hand try every which way to get me to be socially acceptable. Right up to the point i said "Well if i am to be a normal teen in this year i will have to get pregnant and speak on the phone for hours at a time." He shut up once my mom came in and told me if he makes me like that he's going to be taking care of the baby while I'm at school. The face he made was funny as hell.

I'm not even a goth... it was just on a whim. I'm highly tempted to just cross that line though.. I've always been a supporter of the culture.

If you're not gonna wear them all the time, I don't see what the big deal is. =w=;; I mean... it seems like you got them thinking more along the lines of, "Hey this is cool!" rather than "LET'S GET SOMETHING VAMPIRIC FOR SHOCK VALUE YEAH I AM SO HARDCORE," and there's a big difference. neutral
Although to be entirely honest, if I saw someone walking around with vampire fangs and it wasn't Halloween/some kind of convention, I would think they were something far less acceptable on a personal level than a goth.... =w=;

This hits way too close to home for me. I've seen my best friend, who is almost a sister to me, get all manner of verbal abuse hurled at her for going within a ten-foot radius of Hot Topic, for crying out loud. So I'm all too familiar with hearing the kind of thing your parents did, Kuro, and I can sympathize, because if you cut Angie, you're cutting me just as deep.
Personally, I think your parents' stance on this is absolute bullshizz. Socially acceptable can kiss my a**. Anything that's within the law, not violating anyone's rights, and not damaging anyone's feelings, that's what's socially acceptable to me. I'm going to shut my mouth now before my language hits an R-rated level.

as a veteran of the goth community, let me tell you that the criticism of parentals is the worst. I always had things said at me anywhere I go but it doesn't bother me as much, my parents however eventually got used to me wearing ankh chokers and going to clubs at midnight, it was something important to me. I remember I had fangs too for a few weeks, it didn't phase them though since I've always been out there with the music scene. I say that if you want to wear fangs go ahead, your parents shouldn't be suppressing you if it's not hurting anyone. that whole " not socially acceptable" is just another way of saying " if the neighbors see you we'll be embarrassed" as long as you don't take Vampire the Masquerade too far like that kid in Wyoming did, you'll be fine. and if you are going to cross good for you biggrin in my opinion I think everyone should go through a little goth phase at least once in their life it's ever so fub =w=
