Physical Description: If her loud and proud nature gets a look from you, than her appearance will get a second. While she's not a glamorous or superbly beautiful girl, she has a very pretty face and a body that matches. She's well proportioned, her hips balanced by her breasts creating the traditional female hourglass shape. Though she's not near as old as some of the other candidates she has already hit puberty, filling out into her womanly figure. Her black hair is naturally curly, and falls in tight ringlets a little past her shoulders. Usually it's allowed to bounce freely around her face, however whenever she's trying to look nice or dressy she'll tie it back with a string of fabric. Her brown eyes are almond shaped, framed by dark eyelashes which she has a habit of batting if it will help her get what she wants.
Personality: There’s a good reason that Nan’s called The Nose, and it has nothing to do with the size of her nose. Her nose it quite normally sized, actually, but somehow it always finds its way into other people’s business. Renowned for knowing the dirt on just about everybody in the Weyr, Nan lives and breathes gossip. Heck, she probably starts half of it just based on snippets of conversations she’s heard when she’s eavesdropping. Wait, did we say eavesdropping? No, no, she doesn’t eavesdrop (the nerve!). She collects information. It’s a fine art it is, and one she has a great deal of practice in. Nan puts new meaning to the phrase ‘the walls have ears’, and with her vivid imagination she’s a walking nightmare for anyone who’s got something to hide (or just anyone really).
Any new arrival to the Weyr, especially a candidate, is subjected to her version of a ‘welcome party’, which consists of her talking their ear off and asking a lot of questions about their life. If she seemed genuinely interested it’s because she is. She likes knowing about people. She just likes knowing about their secret scandals better. And she admits it. She's also a total sucker for any sort of forbidden romance, and will even go so far as to play the role of matchmaker herself. Nothing beats hooking up two people who were just destined for each other.
Aside from her gossipy nature, Nan is a very bright girl who caries herself with a distinct air of self-assurance. She’s never had any problems with her appearance, upbringing, or parentage, and it shows. Her self-confidence makes it easy for her to talk to anyone, and she is known for just walking up to someone and starting a conversation. She’ll even talk enough for two people if the person she’s speaking to is shy (this is not recommended, as she will often answer her own questions and start rumours about people that didn’t exist before said conversation). Loud and proud, she’s the type of girl who has a horrible singing voice but belts it out anyways just to be heard. Though she’s not noticeably talented in anything she believes in trying anything once. Food, activities, Crafts, and more, she’ll try them all if given the opportunity. Life is made for living, and Nan takes everything that comes her way in stride.
History: While her mother was originally from Ista Hold, she was Searched for the previous clutch and ended up at Ista Weyr. She failed to Impress when she stood for the first time, however she stayed at the Weyr in the hope of being able to stand again for the next clutch. Her second chance was snipped in the bud when a one night stand with a rider produced Nandeli, barring her from standing again. By the time her daughter was old enough she was too old and had lost her chance at being a dragonrider. Life at the Weyr lost its appeal very quickly, and by the time Nandeli was three turns old her mother had returned home, leaving her daughter in the care of the Weyr nannies. Her mother went on to marry a Journeyman Smith and rarely visits the Weyr. Her father visited her and still visits her when he has the time, but for the most part Nan grew up under the tutelage of the women of the Lower Caverns.
Growing up like every other Weyrbrat, she spent her time offering a hand wherever she could. Her time in the kitchen peeling potatoes was what sparked her interest in Weyr gossip. Kitchen workers are notorious for listening in on the conversations that people in the dining hall have while they eat and share the information amongst themselves while they work. Nan joined in on this practice when she was old enough to help with the serving, and soon became the go to person if anyone wanted to know anything. Was one of the bronzeriders having a secret relationship with the head cook? Whose blue managed to catch the recently Risen green? Why was the Weyrleader looking more tired than usual? Nan had answers to these questions and many more, and was always keen on sharing it with anyone who even hinted they might want to know.
She’s stood for Impression as soon as she was able, but has yet to actually become a dragonrider. Unlike her mother, this is only part of her life, and she intends to continue her life as the Weyr gossip even if she does not Impress a dragon. The Weyr is her home and she would be very upset to have to leave it.
