January 109

Eustace stood depressedly in the same spot that she had met Calla, her first Patron. Her thoughts revolved around that one day she had spent with said person, ignorant to the fact that the transfer was due to no fault of her own and rather some winter fling gone terribly awry. It was easy to like Calla. She had been kind and somewhat maternal from what Eu understood. She hadn't shown any indication that Eustace was acting inappropriately.

The Apprentice had spent that day in relative ease after the first few awkward moments. She'd had delusions about a motherly figure in her life, finally, but they were shattered when Calla left. It was as her mother had barely into her fifth year of life. Her mother had died then. Eustace reminded herself over and over that Calla wasn't dead. She'd just transfered to White Shadow. Of course, with the number of times that she expected to see her, she might as well be.

It was one of those rare good first impressions, useless now, but it made her happy that she was able to have done it. She hoped that she could do the same with her new Patron. It would be a few minutes now, she supposed. After all, Privates had things to do.

LunarFlare hadn't sat there for long when the irresistable urge came to him for the third time to search in the snow for certain buried items. He'd found several in his visits to this particular area, his favorite being a boot that he'd already gnawed all usefulness out of. Now it was a mangled, unidentifiable mass of leather and rubber.

Stepping lightly with deep blue hair braided and bouncing on and over her shoulders Angel Krauss calmly or rather not so calmly made her way through the halls to where she was supposed to meet her new apprentice. Of course if one of the other riders hadn't gone and gotten a transfer she wouldn't have to wonder about just what to do with an apprentice at the present moment.

Looking at the wolf padding along silently beside her, Angel tilted her head considering asking him, not for the first time, what he thought of the whole affair. A growl from Willowpelt was all she needed to know. The wolf didn't seem particularly pleased.

Tail swaying slowly Willlowpelt let his attention wander not quite focused on the wild ramblings running through Angel's head. There was always a series of wild ramblings going through the woman's head so there was no need for him to pay attention. He was to be a the patron to one of the new pups that had turned up, the specifics of it all escaped him though.

Eustace saluted the approaching Private. Several had passed through in the time that she'd been standing there and it was only natural that she should salute each and every one of them. After all, they outranked her. She had looked at them, smiling, walking toward one or two of them, assuming that one was her new patron. Eustace, of course, had been wrong both times and apologized profusely for the mix-up.

Having never been introduced to Angel before, she didn't know what to expect. After the first two females to walk past her, she'd simply saluted them and tried not to assume things. After the fourth or fifth to walk by, she was quite ready to check if she had gone to the wrong place by mistake. Eustace assumed the Private to be the same as the rest.

LunarFlare lapped up some snow and sniffed about for more, when soon his nose dragged him in the direction of another wolf. Male, 16.8hh, gray and white, blue eyes, and a curious green stone hanging from his neck. The wolf was just a few yards away and heading for Eustace. Lunar made several quick leaps and was back at said Apprentice's side.

It took Angel a full minute before her mind registered that the much younger private was saluting her, and another moment before she returned the gesture wandering over to the girl. This one was the first private that she had found drifting about looking for all the world abandoned and lost.

Frowning the woman tapped her lips with one finger she pulled a genuine smile and drifted closer to Eustace. Once she was within earshot of the girl she gave a playful grin and slipped both her hands behind her back. "Would you by any chance be Eustace Vinarin or know where I could find her?" Voice childishly high Angel looked up at the girl not for once considering the difference in height.

Peering at the pup curiously for a moment Willowpelt gave a soft growl in mild interest as the green stone around his neck bounced and gleamed with every tilt and turn of his head. The pup was smaller than he, but that was to be expected since he had yet to grow to his full size. Tail flicking Willowpelt settled himself at Angel's side and curled his tail over her feet. If this was indeed the pair that he would help Angel oversee then he could get these introductions over with and get to learning what he wanted and could about the pup.

Eustace took her arm down after being saluted and stood at attention. When the woman asked if that was who she was, Eustace was incredibly relieved. Good, then. She was in the right place. She nodded and answered quickly, "Y-yes. That's me." The woman's hair was braided like her own, but was much darker and had a much more vibrant color. Blue, when compared to brown, always did seem that way, at least to her.

Eustace didn't want to end it there. If this was her new patron then the first impression counted for a lot. After all, it would be now or some time soon that she would decide what areas Eustace needed to work on. She made sure her posture was accurate and looked from her peripheral vision to make sure her uniform wasn't askew. When Eustace was satisfied there was nothing left to check, she continued, "A-are you to be my new P-patron, Ma'am?"

LunarFlare had already had one bad meeting with a wolf. It might have ended badly as well had the older wolf not deemed attacking the adolescent wolf useless or pointless or whatever Zephyr had thought that made him not retaliate. He sniffed curiously in the wolf's direction, but made no step closer. LunarFlare nodded his head in Willowpelt's direction. He took on his human's view of first impressions. They were of the utmost importance.

Angel's emerald eyes drifted over the young girl once, then twice before she came to a conclusion. This was a little mouse that needed protecting from both the pack of wolves that roamed here and those...maniac riders. Bouncing happily she held out a hand to the girl. "Pleasure to meet you! And yes I am, name's Angel Krauss." She said smiling. First impressions were everything and Angel was determined to make sure the girl never saw her darker side. "Please just call me Angel, no need for all those stuffy formalities with me."

Returning the pup's nod, Willowpelt slipped away from Angel to circle Eustace and LunarFlare. Interesting pair. Tail swaying slowly, Willowpelt finished his inspection before returning to Angel's side. Pleased to meet you little one. He growled softly lowering his head in an attempt to appear less imposing.

Eustace took Angel's hand. "The p-pleasure is all m-mine," She replied, cursing her stutter with every ounce of her being. This couldn't seem at all professional. Angel seemed nice enough not to care about that, but she couldn't imagine what her opinion about Eustace would be.

Someone like Eustace probably should even be a rider at all. If one can't be assertive with other people, how could one be assertive with centipedes? The answer to that was simple enough. People are human. Centipedes are monsters. It was considered righteous to fight a centipede. To fight with a superior was just stupid. With that in mind, she replied, "O-of course... Angel."

Lunar stood his ground, looking forward the entire time Willowpelt circled him. Still, his ears perked up, sensitive to any indication of hostile intentions. As Willowpelt returned to his rider's side, LunarFlare eyed the stone again. He wanted to ask about it, but decided against it. The wolf would tell him about it if he wanted. If not, then it wasn't his place to ask. You too. Lunar had taken to speaking only a little at a time. He was still learning how to convey thoughts correctly. If he wasn't careful, Eustace's stutter would slip out.
