((AIM log between Kimaria and Tahja ))
Well, he wouldn't say he was overjoyed about his future as a guard, but he had to admit it wasn't as bad as he had first believed. Before he'd been told the bad news, he'd thought that being a soldier was the most amazing, honourable, heroic thing anyone could ever aspire to. And yet, now, he was beginning to see it wasn't all black and white.
That didn't mean - given the chance - he wouldn't jump at a rank change to soldier, but for now his temper tantrums and sulking fits had eased. He figured he might as well make the most of it. Besides, Uuo wasn't really all that bad. She really knew her stuff and she was probably the best teacher in the art of becoming guardian of the pride. So, really, his situation could have been a lot worse.
He could have been a cub-sitter...
The thought had him shuddering with fear, but he brushed it off a second later. He wouldn't think of that. He was a guard now, and there was no way he was going to drop to anything less. He'd told Uuo he'd obey her, be prepared to do anything in order to learn. So, he'd do it. Granted, with a scowl on his face and a few mouthy words, but he'd do it.
Now he was heading home, back to his den and wondered what he was going to say to his siblings when they asked him where he had been. He'd been bragging for so long that he knew they'd not believe any excuse he made up. No...he'd just have to accept the teasing and show them all that he could be the best at anything if he just put his mind to it.

Kadogo'moto stood towering over her, giving her a lecture about the importance of a good foundation stance when fighting. She was listening intently, though she preferred her lessons with Uuo and even her grandmother, who both seemed to better understand that speed and quick thinking were her strong points rather than brute force. For Ursa, after that day with that scuffle with Azar life definitely moved on. She had resumed her training despite drifting thoughts now and then, because life moved on but she still didn't like being thought of as weird. HE was the weird one, after all. Royalty had been disbanded, he'd thrown at her, well, so had gender inequality. So what if she was a girl? Girls were the bulk of the Firekin warriors both then and now! Who was he to demean her because of her job choice and gender?
When she thought like that she really couldn't feel bad about their spat, but she hoped that maybe the next time she saw him it would go better. It was asking too much for him to have changed his mind about girls, after all, wasn't it? Pity, too, since the teacher he would have when he was apprenticed as a soldier would be female. Azula... certainly wouldn't like that attitude. Out of sympathy Ursa gave a shudder of her own, unknowingly at the same time as Azar. A few moments later who should walk by than Azar himself? Ursa paused as she noticed the bright red spot from the corner of her eye, looking his way, causing Kadogo to rumble for her attention. Her eyes snapped back up to her father, standing straight once again.
"Sorry, papa!"
Kadogo just rumbled more gruffly, bordering on a growl. So much for the day's lessons. He had been talking long enough anyway by now he was sure. He dismissed her and told her to be back in time for the evening meal, so she turned to Azar once Kadogo was padding back into the den again.
"Hey!" She called, not moving from her spot just yet though.

He was alerted at the sound of a growl, lifting his head, not really expecting to see anyone he knew. Azar didn't pay much attention to the goings on around him and that included members of the pride. He was still little yet, though, and one would hope he'd come to atleast learn the important ones.
He did a double-take when he realised that, for once, he did recognise the figure over there. That dark pelted girl from before. Had he caught her name from their last encounter? He didn't think so. It hadn't exactly been the greatest of meetings had it? Unless you could call shouting and a fight a good greeting. Heck, maybe it was! Azar'bijan didn't really care, but he was curious enough to slow his step and watch them from the corner of his eye as he went.
Nosy child.
Papa? So that was her father? He turned his head slightly to get a better look, and that was when he realised that the female was heading his way. Dammit! And she'd probably noticed he'd been looking their way! He couldn't even pretend that he hadn't noticed them.
Reluctantly, he drew to a halt and turned to glance her, putting on a 'not interested' kind of expression. "Hey." He echoed her greeting with little enthusiasm. "You a daddy's little girl, or what? How cute."

Right off the bat with the insults, it seemed, if one wanted to count it as such. Ursa was becoming familiar with his game though. "It's called being respectful. I'm not surprised you don't seem to know anything about that." She shot back. She was a few weeks his senior, she'd finally learned, having been brought over from the outside before he and his litter mates had been born, and in time it was going to really show, she was already starting to go through a bit of a growth spurt. Was it just her, too, or was she already having to look down her nose some at him? Not that she liked looking down on others, of course not.

He blinked, growled a little bit and strengthened his stance, almost as if expecting her to come at him with claws and teeth flying. His being smaller certainly didn't make him less mouthy.
"Respectful? Pah. I have respect, just not for everyone and not because they happen to be a relative. They've gotta earn respect first. I don't dish it out easy."
He made as if to turn away, walk away before they got into another fight. The truth was he was rather tired and wanted to have a bit of a nap before mother brought home some food for her cubs to eat.

"Hmm...." Her eyes watched him as he turned to go, her tail flipping calmly to and fro behind her with relaxed ease. Just as he moved to leave, however, a scent caught her nose suddenly and she stopped, slightly bristled with surprise before relaxing once again. She had warned him before about getting on people's bad sides without any care, hadn't she? To be aware that some might have connections that he didn't realize? Well, he wasn't on her bad side but he wasn't on her good side either, so why not drive the point home a little? "So, you and Uuo spending some time together today?" She grinned.
In actuality she didn't see anything wrong with guard duty, of course, but even soft hearted Ursa couldn't help but find it ironic that after all his boasting he seemed to have been apprenticed to the captain of offense-- but wait, no! The captain of the GUARD. How he would respond to the question, that would determine her response to him.

He froze mid-step, a forepaw hovering indecisively. An ear twitched backwards and after a moment his head followed. The angry glare on his face was stone cold, but there was something else there, too. A flicker of that shame, perhaps? But it was gone a second later, replaced by steely determination.
"We have." He replied after a moment. "But it's not what you think. I ain't apprenticed to her. We were just passing time, like you with your dad." That would be believable enough, wouldn't it? There was perhaps even a tinge of jealousy towards the end. He had a good enough relationship with his mother, but really he didn't know his father well at all. He'd have liked to but...well...there didn't ever seem to be an opportunity. And now he was growing up, training, learning. He didn't have time for family bonding now.
"Anything else you'd like to question me about whilst I'm here, weirdo?"

Well that was obviously a lie, not because she thought it was suspicious, but because the reaction that she got from him was so defensive-- it was as if the subject was touchy to him, and why would it be unless he HAD been apprencitced to Uuo.
"It's not?" She shrugged. "Nothing wrong with it, even if there is. I'm just curious, is all. Seems rather silly to get so angry over 'just passing time', though. And so what if I spend time with my father? He's usually busy patrolling or with his apprentice." She shot back. "Why. What do YOU do all day? Run around picking fights with everyone who isn't a soldier's apprentice, a boy, or doesn't agree with you? Oh, what a great way to spend time." Her eyes rolled.

"Curious or nosy?" He replied. "Keep your nose outta my business." Yes...it was definately a touchy subject.
"What do I do all day? Certainly don't take orders and lectures from my father, if that's what you mean." His tail thrashed. "And you better quit saying stuff like that. I don't pick on girls on purpose. Generally, its the girls who anger me enough to do it. Why do you think that is, huh? Attention? Why would they want my attention when they have their wonderful fathers and other pretty little friends." He curled a lip.
"Girls are trouble. Specially you. You think you're so damn smart. If you dislike me so much, why'd you bother to say anything? It's obvious form last time we don't get on. Why don't we just save ourselves the hassle?"

"Oh? Kind of like how you did just now when you were eavesdropping on me and my dad?" She quirked a brow. "He's teaching me how to fight, not that it's anymore your business, and why should I? You were rude to me because you think girls can't fight as well as you can, but last time I checked YOU were the one that limped out of here with a hurt leg. I don't want your attention, you can keep it, but I'm not gonna stand around and let you talk big like you're so damn high and mighty over the rest of us 'non-soldiers'. And I don't dislike YOU. I dislike your stupid, sexist attitude. I hope you grow up soon. The whole 'girls are weaker' thing is really annoying." She snarled.

He bristled, clenching his teeth, unable to find the words to reply. She'd got him good and proper. Best just silently admit defeat and get out of here as soon as. What was that, Uuo had taught him? Being quiet was a big part of being a guard. Yep, that was it. Be quiet, Azar'bijan.
But he couldn't help it.
He tried to keep his mouth shut. He was even stepping away. Then she said it and he whirled back, shivering with anger. "Boys are stronger than girls. You might be a bit bigger now, but when we're both fully grown I'm gonna be bigger than you. You won't be able to knock me down once that happens."

"They are not!" She growled back. "I bet when we're older even Yin-li would still be able to kick your butt, even when you're full grown!" Coming from a bloodline with such fierce females didn't help her outlook much, and narrowing her eyes, she spat with a hiss. "I bet you wouldn't talk so damn tough if Uuo or the Regents or your mother was here to hear it!"

"Well they ain't here, are they?" He stomped his paw and took a step towards her. "I ain't saying girls are weak. I'm just saying they're not as strong as us males! That's all. It ain't my fault we were made this way."
He flinched his whiskers and huffed loudly.
"If I didn't no better, I'd say you was jealous of me."

"That's no excuse to act like a jerk." She shot back, not moving. "Good thing you know better, then." She glared, annoyed. The only issues she had that she felt she needed to acknowledge were her issues over her deceased brother, and her guilt complex. "What is it with you? Can't you ever just say anything nice, or polite? Does everything you say to me have to be so rude?"

He flattened back his ears.
Rude? Was this girl for real? Was she hearing the own words coming out of her mouth at all? Or did she simply speak without thinking?
"You started it." He replied moodily. "I can be polite if I want to be. I just choose not to with people like you. You make me so mad!" His fur bristled. This girl really got under his skin! More so perhaps than his own siblings. Why was that? Was it because she wasn't a blood relative and it angered him more? He wasn't quite sure.
"Besides...you're the one who came to me first."
