February 109

Bored, that could be one word for the way Shun was feeling at the moment. Nightshade had left his side hours before to slink about, or more accurately laze about somewhere. Not that it was too usual an occurrence when the Private had nothing to fill his time with, but he was more than certain the wolf had found somewhere to be lazy.

The logical place that his feet ended up taking him was the training grounds to keep back and watch the newer recruits going through some practice. The way he'd seen a couple shots fired though has him questioning how they left the Academy. Hm, maybe if the wolf turned up again he'd have a bit of fun letting the rogue chase them around a bit. That would at least alleviate some of his bored state of mind.

Actually the thought was tempting enough to question Nightshade over. Unfortunately his only response for the suggestion is a very lazy
Why now? Can always harass them another time when it's not so pleasant. Not so pleasant? Nightshade. The point to pleasant weather is to not be lazy and waste time in not doing something worthwhile. And yes, tormenting a few pups is worthwhile.

Lazy wolf. From what he could gather Nightshade wasn't even putting that mind to use and coming up with any good plots and plans to fulfill. A waste really, there was a plethora of things to be considering. Things such as getting by with a few of his own calculations without being on the wrong end of any of the Alphas for instance.

So close to spring there were very few days that could actually qualify as having 'pleasant weather' and today was one of them. Of course such pleasant days were usually met with a bit of agitation and restlessness from Alister. Which was just why he'd taken up the position of not only setting up a small test course but also of luring a few of the more gulible apprentices over.

Sadly the amusement of that activity had faded away when he'd been forced to rescue an apprentice (rather grudgingly mind you) from Twilight's jaws after the boy almost shot the wolf by accident. While he would have enjoyed watching the black wolf chase the squealing apprentice for the rest of the day, he had other plans for making use of the clear and mildly warm weather.

As such Alister now found himself perched lazily on Twilight's back, his practice rifle set against one shoulder as the wolf began to weave through the course. A dull form of amusement but it would have to do.

Failing again to rouse his wolf from wherever he was, Shun gives up for the moment. His attention returns to watching Apprentices boredly and studying their moves for any flaw or action that could prove a threat.. even though they are all on the same side. Nothing really interesting from watching them though, until he happens to look over at the makeshift test course and the black wolf currently running it with her rider.

Definitely not an apprentice. But who then? Going over his mental list of the wolves, it takes a moment to click. That had to be Twilight, or a wolf over from New Eve, but that wasn't likely. So then, what would she and her rider be doing running through a course below their level? Rather than mull over the details himself and choose a likely option, he chooses instead to walk towards the course and ask. If the wolf slowed down enough, that is.

Another clay pot shattered and Alister shifted his weight ever so slightly on the wolf's back a subtle signal for the wolf to slow down as they neared the last of the targets. There was a slight rumbling growl and a ghost of a dark smile crossed his face. Eyes narrowing Alister took aim and fired, taking brief delight in the sound of shattering clay pot after clay pot until finally he was out of targets and Twilight was drawing to stop.

Slipping the rifle back over his shoulder, Alister swung one leg over the wolf's back and slipped off before the black female got the temptation to dump him off as she'd done numerous times before. Giving a mild grimace at the mixture of slush-like snow under his boots he moved away from the spot ignoring the amused chuckle from Twilight.

Human approaching... Tossing her head as her tail flicked Twilight looked over her shoulder at the approaching man before snorting softly. Padding to stand behind Alister, Twilight lowered her head slightly eyes fixed on Shun. He looks familiar... Tail swaying slowly her ears pricked forward barely moving as Alister settled one hand lightly between her ears.

A brief moment of contemplation and she lifted her head ever so slightly. Nightshade's rider, Shun~ Tail swaying her jaws dropped open into a lazy wolfish smile.

Taking note of the number of targets his senior officer was going through without missing a beat, Shun nods mentally. A good aim, but that was to be expected wasn't it. Shun slows his pace to a bit more of a casual walk to take his time in arriving at the pair's location. Ah, and not too long for the she wolf to notice his presence. A few seconds sooner than he had guessed even. You could learn to be more attentive like Twilight, you know.

Oh I could? Mm remind me then about it when I wake up.

Lazy pile of fur.

Taking a minute or o to end his casual pace to the pair, he gives a casual, and nearly bored-looking salute. "Alister, Twilight."

Returning the salute with an near equally as bored one, Alister let his arm fall to rest behind his back brushing the rifle for a moment before he relaxed slightly but not completely. True Shun was a comrade but that didn't mean Alister fully trusted the man. Perhaps it was because the man seemed to be a reflection of some facet of his own persona, or perhaps it was something else. Whatever it was, Alister had no intention of lowering his guard for even a heartbeat.

"Shun."

Tail swaying slowly Twilight gave a soft almost purring growl as she acknowledged the human's greeting and settled to observing the pair's conversation while circling beside and behind her rider slowly. Alister was agitated, most likely from his distrust of the man, and that was putting her on edge, which wasn't likely to make the situation any better.

Keeping his stance casual, Shun watches the salute returned to him. Empty formalities, as always. Such a bother to give the mechanic response sometimes. A quick glance over Alister's shoulder towards the last of the shattered targets, he manages a half, if still bored, grin.

"Aim as impressive as always, I see. And a shame Nightshade isn't as keen on using this weather for something more productive than sunning his fur."

He gives a side glance to Twilight, watching the wolf just a moment. Indeed Nightshade could learn a thing or two about being more attentive and active from watching her. A hand absently slips into his empty pocket and he lets his posture relax ever so slightly again to give off a good impression of not being imposing. For the time being at least.

"Why so tense though? Surely you don't see any threat from a younger officer who left his gun in his quarters."
