Serafina couldn't really understand what all the fuss was about. Ever since they'd moved into their new home, everyone kept running around like beheaded chickens, as if unsure of what to do

...Ehehehee.... beheaded chickens.

For some reason, the mental image that formed in her mind was horribly hilarious to her, and the girl giggled, bubbles of laughter emerging from her opened mouth as she lifted her paw to cover it. Mommy said that she should be good while she was here, after all. Something about not attracting attention or whatever. In all honesty, Serafina hadn't really been listening; her attention had strayed during that conversation when a butterfly had flown past.

Her mind told her that what better way to fit in than to play with others! After all, she really enjoyed playing with others, so surely others would enjoy it too? That was why she had trotted away from her family, her bright eyes searching the dunes for someone to partner with for some play time. Time had passed though, and she'd only found adult (Who were no fun anyhow - booooooo). She was about to give up when she spotted a boy's form a short distance away.

A disturbing grin spread across her maw and she paused only briefly before charging forward towards the boy, her eyes wide open with the insanity that seemed to grip her so often. Launching herself up into the air, she aimed for the other cub, but.... flew past him, landing face first in the dirt. After rolling a bit, she ended up on her back, blinking, then burst into a round of insane laughter, as if she honestly didn't care she'd missed him so terribly.

To her, this was a game - it didn't matter that it hurt, and the blood was just a bonus.

Azar'bijan was one of those cocky, loud-mouth types. He had plenty of time for jeering, teasing and yelling but never much time for putting any of those words into actions. However, perhaps it was the sheer fact that she had appeared from nowhere, seemingly intent on landing a hefty clout, that stunned him into action.

He hadn't heard her coming. Hadn't realised that he was under attack at all until he saw her hurtling past him, landing on the ground a short distance away. Then she was rolling, standing and laughing. And the laughter. What laughter it was! It sent shivers down his spine, had his fur standing on end and before he knew it he was standing, too.

He narrowed his eyes and glared at her a moment, wondering briefly why all the insane ones were drawn to him. It was Ursa before and now...now it was this one? He didn't recognise her - although he probably should have found familiarity in the unusual marks about her body - but knew she must be off her nut to have missed an attack that he hadn't even known was coming. For all his loud-mouth ways he certainly didn't listen to anyone else when they spoke. Thus, he had no idea that this was the daughter of a Safi he was about to put himself up against.

"What're you laughing at, Freak?" He snapped, spittle gathering on his lips. "I'll teach you for sneaking up on me and missing." His eyes dropped to the ground where he'd been busy rolling rocks under his paws a moment before and an idea came into his head. A smirk rolled its way across his red, little face and, without warning he kicked a paw outwards, sending one of the rocks flying at her.

But his aim was off and it skimmed harmlessly by, coming to a halt a few strides behind her. He growled, flattened his ears and puffed out his chest. "Get lost, girl."

Giggles erupted her throat again, though this time, it was almost as if she were laughing at him for missing her too, "You ******** SUCK a**, man!" she told him rudely, her eyes impossibly wide as she licked her chomps. For some odd reason, she found the ordeal hilarious, and it didn't really matter whom he was; hell, it was probable Serafina didn't even known anyone aside her parents and siblings. She wasn't very good with names. After all, names didn't matter; they never stuck.

What mattered was this.

The feel of adrenaline pumping and the itch to rush forward and sink her teeth and claws into him. The feel of the breeze as he kicked a rock and it went flying past; it was everything to her. THAT was what matter in the world, and Serafina couldn't quite understand why anyone would bother with anything else. Then, she stopped giggling, and an eerie smirk curved her maw, "My turn, b***h," she told him, and that was all the warning he got before she launched herself forward, her front paw swishing up to slap him across the face.

If the scars that littered her body were any indication, she was used to fights. Some where almost healed, some were vanishing from view and others looked much more fresh, making it obvious she pulled these stunts on a regular basis.

Azar decided then and there that he didn't like her. She was mad, completely mad! What on earth was she doing here? Why hadn't her parents done the kind thing and put her down? Why hadn't that stupid a** Kidondo thrown her out? Oh right, because he was stupid. Azar still had a great dislike for the Regent, ever since he had told him that he was not going to put him through to be apprenticed to a soldier. Now he was stuck as a Guard, and although it wasn't all that bad...it wasn't the same.

But why the hell was this girl fighting him? He was usually the one who started fights, not the other way around. He hadn't even had to wind her up with a few teasing words or anything!

But there was no time to think about the reasons. She was yelling, cursing, and then she was flying at him...

...Too fast!

He reared backwards to try and evade her swipe, but the paw caught him clean around the face. Sharp stinging pain etched three swift lines across his face. Three shining red lines in that red fur.

Well, this was new.

Pain was not something he was used to. Yes he got into scraps, but they were usually with claws sheathed. Apparently this girl didn't do 'play-fighting'. Realising that this wasn't some silly girly fight - as he'd first assumed - he felt a flare of anger deep in his chest.

A second after the strike hit true across his face, Azar'bijan lashed out with a paw of his own - an automatic reflex that wasn't quite thought out. Hooked, ebony claws sang through the air. He didn't aim. Azar rarely aimed. All he knew was that her head, neck or shoulders was in that relative area and struck out in an attempt to counter the hit she'd already dealt him. Strike out and hope that it forced her to back away. He needed time to think!

Unfortunately for poor Azar, while he did manage to strike her clean across her maw, the girl barely even winced away. In fact, if anything, it made the insanity in her eyes flare with even more force, "Oooooooooh~~" she sang song-ed as she took a bouncing, happy step back, "Lookit that! Kitten has claws after all!" giggles marred the words, and for a moment, one could have mistaken them for some sort of innocent chant, but soon enough, the sweetness seeped away from her voice again, "I'm going to ******** kill you, b***h," she told him bluntly, "Gonna ******** eat you alive!"

Her tongue darted out to catch the blood that trailed down her maw from the direct hit and then she was circling him, trot-bouncing around him. In a way, it was similar to the way her mother circled opponents in an attempt to find an opening to charge in, but no, Serafina's movements were much more erratic, and it was obvious she wasn't really calculating anything. She wasn't thinking anything through, but rather, was pretty happy to go with the flow. While it made it impossible for her to calculate her own attacks (not that she wanted to, apparently), it also made her horribly unpredictable, "I am really special cuz there's only one of me," she sang songs eerily as she circled him, "Welcome to my happy world, now get your s**t and leave!"

For now, apparently, she seemed to be waiting, but what for... well, that was hard to tell.

How dare she!? How DARE she?! Azar'bijan felt a sudden influx of anger at he taunting. Him, a kitten? Please, he was a firekin! A damn Firekin! Firekin were certainly not kittens at the best of the times.

"Shut your mouth!" He snapped, suddenly. "Just shut up!"

And as she circled him, he turned, too. He wanted to keep an eye on her at all times, to make sure she didn't manage to get another attack in. This wasn't like any other fight he'd been in. If he messed up now, there was going to be pain and blood and he wasn't willing to let that happen.

"Thank the sands there is only one of you." Azar rasped in response. "The world couldn't cope with any more than that." And his eyes followed her, waiting, unsure what to expect.

All he knew was that he wasn't just going to throw himself at her like he usually did. Hell, she scared him!

Perhaps this would be the turning point in Azar's career as a Guard, a lesson that he couldn't just rush in without thinking.

Or maybe not...

She was teaching him a lesson. He should have thanks her.

Then again, Serafina wasn't exactly thinking about that as she circled him. Her mind was focused on the battle, even if it was crazed and her movements held no real militaristic logic. It really didn't matter to her; at the end of the day, winning or losing wasn't what was important. The fun was the battle itself. The results... well, honestly, she couldn't care less about them.

She'd won many battles. But then again, she had lost just as many battles. One day, Serafina knew she would die. It wasn't an option; it was a fact. So what better way to go down than within a thrilling fight? Perhaps it was the fact she had no fear of death that made her such a scary adversary; she attacked without fear for her own health.

She was crazy.

In fact, as if to prove that point, the female then suddenly snapped forward and launched herself at him, claws extended, jaws open in an attempt to pin him down.

But... flew past him. Skidding to a halt, she grinned up at him with eyes narrowed, as if to say that yes, there was WAY more from where that had come from and that he should ******** brace himself.

Circling. Circling.

He knew an attack would come. He just had no idea when or from where. All he knew was that he could not let his eyes drift from her. He had to keep watch. He had to be alert!

And then she came at him.

He saw her coming and was ready for it. He was quick to evade, spinning around to face her, determined not to let his back face her. Determined not to let her sink her claws into him again. The throb in his face was a reminder of what would happen if he let her get close again.

Then, he saw that face. That look. And it drove a spear of anger into his heart. He felt his claws dig into the sand, felt the strength gather in his muscles. He wasn't going to just stand there like a prey-beast and let her circle him. No way! He was a Firekin. This was a matter of pride.

So he did what he thought neseccary and the a split-second after he launched at her, striking out at her face with a paw, fangs bared in an attempt to protect his own.
