Paparazzi. Celebrity gossip. Reality television. Tell-all autobiographies and E! specials. In a world obsessed with real people and their lives, our news is saturated with celebrity-related news - drunken award show brawls, violent divorces, public weddings and "accidentally" released sex tapes... and we drink up every drop, eager for more. How is Britney Spears doing on her road to a career rebirth? Who is Tila Tequila ******** now? What's Eminem like as a father? What does Manson eat for breakfast? Viewing celebrities with the same obsession as we do fictional characters has created a "real person fandom" - an collection of Internet junkies writing fanfiction about the real people we obsess over, bringing life to fantasies of Eminem/Trent Reznor and proving yet again that if it exists, there is slash porn of it on the Internet. I created the thread, so I get the first shot at sharing my opinions on the subject.
I don't view Real Person Fiction as creepy, offensive, or wrong. As a matter of fact, I write it and roleplay it often; hence the creation of this thread. Because celebrities' lives are treated like reality tv shows even when they don't have an official one (seriously, how often do we see Britney on the news? There's even a livejournal community updated all day long with pictures of her eating lunch, driving on the highway, etc) it's only natural that we treat them like characters on the Internet. Reality television started it, anyway - when we watch shows where real people in real situations are treated like a sitcom (think of Real World) with emphasis on drama, they're no longer people, they're another source of entertainment, and we've been writing fanfiction of entertaining characters for... ever-ish. (I say "we" in reference of fandom-going Internet junkies; I certainly haven't been into it as long as it's been around, I haven't been alive that long.)
Some celebrities find it disgusting and a tad bit obsessive. Well, some authors view fan-written fiction based on their work in the same way, but fanfiction is a generally accepted outlet of creativity. To look at it on a broader scale, writing in general -- books, newspaper articles, movies, etc -- will always offend someone in the end. Celebrities sometimes find articles about themselves in magazines offensive, but said magazines will still be sold, because there are still readers for it. Same with RPF.

The only, the only two real fanfiction pairings that have completely just freaked me out are as follows:
Miley/Billy Ray Cyrus
And anything to do with the Jonas brothers.
For some reason, the oldest one seems to be most often described as an evil rapist, who rapes everything from his fans, random girls, next door neighbors, even his own brothers.
And that's just a bit of wrong there. XD
I'm not a Jonas Brother's fan. (Omfg they're getting their own show on Disney called 'Jonas,' please kill me now.) But it's just a tad bit too much.

It's never freaked me out, probably because I've only ever read one real person fic.
It was a Trent/Marshall fic, and because the author got them so dead on in character, I loved it.
I'd done band roleplays and things like that before.
I usually write for: Twiggy Ramirez, Ryan Dunn, Jeff Hardy, Jonathan Davis, and Trent Reznor. Plus, a ton more wrestlers.
I have written for: Benji and Joel Madden, Fred Durst, and James Maynard.
I like it in the sense that you're getting to play with what you'd like to see them do, what you want to happen to them, who they hook up with, etc.
It's not that I'm belittleing that they're actual people, I'm just sort of using them as a roleplay character for my own entertainment without their knowing because I like them(their looks, personality, music, background) enough to want to use them as a muse.
Though, I don't think I could ever do anything with Heath Ledger in it or Chris Benoit(ever again).

Eh, I dunno, I'm not a huge fan . . . I'm just more of a gossip sort of person. I don't really get into celebrities that much. I sorta wish Drew Barrymore and Justin Long were still together, because she's so kickass (so kickass, in fact, she set him up with his next girlfriend).

@Cassy: Miley/Billy Ray is, like, hilarious. o_o And I've only seen one Jonas fic, but they were paired with Miley, and she was some sex panthress while they were all virgins.. RPF is usually of poor quality, however, so after the first three paragraphs I stopped reading. It was worth it for the lulz though.
Silly Jonas brothers, spreading bromance. Girls find them all attractive, and they can't pick which one they want to screw most, so they're like "I can handle all of them lololol" and what will eventually pop into their head is the fact that if they're sleeping with three guys... the guys may eventually get more sexual with each other in her fantasies... and then wtf you have 12 year olds shipping incest pairings without realizing it until they're 14ish, at which point it is too late.

Or do a Hardyz/Viva La Bam crossover. Omg. Like if Matt and Jeff were filming with Shannon, and the groups sort of ran into each other and -- as per Bam's habitual impulsiveness -- got invited along on one of the VLB filming adventures. A rockfest in Europe for example.
You'd just have to keep Novac away from Jeff.. blaugh

Somewhat related.. I found Tom Felton's Twitter account. He is rather adorable ("Wo there I never endorsed the silly hats on Draco!!!" - at these.)
I didn't even know he had a girlfriend until recently. xp <******** love the "Time Isn't Healing" song he sings. Gonna buy it on iTunes and make a Ron/Draco video to it.)

You know two brothers in the wrestling business are ******** when the younger one ties the older brother down to a table in front of thousands of people as though it's the most natural concept in the world. Have you guys ever written/read fiction about people you actually know? ninja I know my sister's ex-boyfriend used to write pron about her and him . . . and me and Darrell have been writing a soap opera including all of our friends for over 2 years now. I think that's the best kind. XD As long as it isn't super creepy. I think that the pron between my sister and her ex is kind of creepy. o_o

@Janine: I used to write a lot of self-insertion fanfiction with myself and my friend Tiffany in middle school... I was with Kurama (of Yu Yu Hakusho) and she was with Hiei because she was as short as he was. Laaaawl.
Yeah, a lot of people joked that Trent should be casted as Snape, lol.
SPEAKING OF TRENT. He's gone into a great big angry attack again (the sixth in like two weeks), taking shots at some of his own fans and linking his self-made online enemies to encourage his fans to stalk and flame them. Calling some fans "unattractive plump females who publicly fantasize about having sex with guys in bands" and telling them "Cutter's tip for my friends there: remember to cut along the length of vein, not across. Bigger payoff." He was mostly taking a jab at a specific website, but by the end of his rant it was obvious he was bitching out anyone who had crossed him. Funniest part of his rant:
"Back to Twitter. I approached that as a place to be less formal and more off-the-cuff, honest and "human". I was not expecting to broadcast details of my love life there, but it happened because I'm in love and it's all I think about and that's that. If this has bummed you out or destroyed what you've projected on me, fair enough - it's probably time for you to leave. You are right, I'm not the same person I was in 1994 (and I'm happy about that). Are you?"
That made me LOL because of how often I say it. But when I speak of 1994!Trent, it is from my plump/unattractive female slash writer point of view, taking Trent as a fictional character as opposed to referencing his real life existence. Looking at Trent as an actual person isn't something I do often because my interest in him is in his music and his use in fatasy-based fiction...
I'm delighted Kat writes him "out of character." I feel bad for "real Trent" because it's obvious he's not yet used to the Internet, and has no clue how to socialize online or handle the manner in which arguments are formed. He seems to attract flame wars.. He'll get used to it in a few years!
EDIT: Unless he makes good on his earlier threat of shutting down the Nine Inch Nails site as soon as the tour is over, and refusing to speak to fans online again.

All I can say is, as of right now... He's on the same page as Metallica in my YOU ******** SUCK book.
I just... I get he's a human being, but I thought he was more intelligent and more understanding of things... At least to the point that he wouldn't call people "cowards" for being online and disagreeing with him, ya know?
If you refer to it as a community, then treat the internet like a ******** community and not some hide-y hole place that we lash out at people because it isn't real. That may have been considered true a few years ago, but not now.
The internet is an actual living space, I consider it one when I'm on it, and I don't think he's learned much about it. He needs to stop putting so much value in what people say when they don't agree with him. He doesn't in real life, so why give a s**t what they have to say on here?
I don't appreciate his hypocritical methods either. "Oh, you don't like me?? ******** YOU THEN! *throws up every link he can find pertaining to said person* You guys deal with them!" So you don't want a large mass of woman fans being nasty and against you, but it's okay for you to completely ruin their online space by sending YOUR little hordes of mindless sheep?
It's like if you're not licking his a*****e at everything he says and he catches you commenting in a negative light towards him then you're s**t.
It makes my stomach sick... I love his music so ******** much... I just wish he'd calm down and try to understand better, or get mad about it but not go off the handle like that. emo
