I'm pretty sure we've had a thread like this in the past, but why not create a new one? It's always an interesting topic to discuss, and one that we shouldn't forget about because the job world is an important one, and living a life with bodmods can be difficult in that world.

So discuss the following, or come up with your own subjects that are mod & work-related to discuss.
:: Do you have a job? If so, where do you work?
:: Are bodmods allowed at your work? If so, what? If not, do you cover yours up, and if so, how?
:: How has getting any visible bodmods affected you in the job world?
:: Have you lost a job because of bodmods? Have you gotten a job because of bodmods?

I was working at a subway and I had to take out all my piercings except my septum and my tongue ring. I thought that Id given up on body mods for good until I finally quite the place and started getting htem back.

I'm glad you didn't give up. :3
I saw someone working at Subway a while back who had a lot of visible arm tattoos. He was probably supposed to cover them, but his long-sleeves were always rolled up. Haha.

Working at Spencer's, they don't really mind at all how their employees look, but they actually used to care a few years back. One of my assistant managers has been working there for about 12 years or longer, and she was telling me that when she first started, employees weren't allowed to have any visible tattoos or facial piercings. At the time, they only allowed standard lobe piercings. Pretty crazy considering the type of store Spencer's is. Then again, a lot has changed, and the bodmod subculture has gained a lot of popularity since then.

I don't have a job at the moment =[

However, I do have to put careful thought into what mods I do get due to the fact that I'm studying to become a dietitian with the hope of getting a job in the NHS. I do placements throughout my course so I couldn't even get anything highly visible whilst I was at uni. So in essence my choices in modifications are limited by the choice in career I made.

I've been applying everywhere for ages.
I had an interview at KFC a week ago, and they said that if I got the job I would have to take my jewelry out.
I was wearing retainers during the interview.
The problem with it is that my cheeks are noticeable no matter what.
Its not the jewelry, its the big hole in my face.
I don't want to be a chicken killer anyway.

I was begging at the mall yesterday, actually.
I think I have a decent chance getting a job at hot topic just because I had a conversation with the manager while I turned in my app.
We both love the same music/styles.

I work in business administration, until recently it was behind the scenes in a large supermarket/dept store
so I can't really get anything done below the elbow, on my hands, neck or any facial piercings

I have my left ear done and I wanna stretch it a little
but only if I can find a good flesh coloured plug or somethin conservative

BAF has pretty good flesh plugs.

I work at Spencer Gifts and we have an extremely flexible dress code.
We can wear any piercings, have our hair any way...
It's the good life.

But when I got the application/had the interview, I had no piercings visible.
They didn't even know I had anything pierced until I started working.
I figured it was just good application manners, you know?

But I'm having such a hard time finding a second job.
Blast!

I'm pretty lucky, I've always had jobs that have been cool with mods. The current job is the most flexible yet, as we don't have any customer contact. Basically as long as we're clothed at all and are wearing shoes, they're happy. Even several of the supervisors have mohawks and piercings and funky hair colors and visible tattoos and such.

Where I work (supermarket checkout b***h) we're not strictly allowed any visible jewellery except one set of lobe piercings, unless it's religious.

In actuality, a good 50% of operators have at least one other piercing, be it a second set of lobe piercings or a nose piercing or a different ear piercing. There are at least three of us with tattoos (I just got mine yesterday) although none of those are visible. Several of the office people have multiple ear mods done. And I've worked directly with the store manager, with my hair tied up (regulation) and my corkscrew clearly visible (it's not subtle either) and he hasn't said a word...so really, it seems that anything not too out there is okay.

What I find funniest about working there with my corkscrew are the occasional people who start reaching up to touch their ears and wincing, when they finally notice it. You can just picture them thinking 'Oh my god that must have hurt!' xd

Ah yes I know how you feel, one of my favorite tricks is to hook my fork around my tongue ring in a public restaurant and watch everyone flinch

I work in the floral department at a grocery store, and surprisingly everyone loves my tattoos, piercings, and even my pink hair.

I have to tie my hair up, so it shows off my wacky industrial barbells or my sparkly 00g plugs. I love when people ask me "Did that hurt?!".

I'm working on a degree in teaching at the moment though, in case my current apprenticeship doesn't lead to me getting hired, or I want to make tattoo/piercing just a hobby, but with my mods and what not teaching will be a bit tough.

American Apparel didn't care at all.

I'm doing my practicum at the hospital right now. My tattoos haven't been an issue and I have my septum flipped up (though I don't think they'd care much about that either) and I have a 12ga labret with a microgem on the end. Oh yeah and 5/8" stretched lobes, but I don't even think about those anymore.
