This is going to be a discussion about charity (for family, community, strangers, etc). Not necessarily involving monetary assistance!
I'd like people to talk about actual charities/organisations you would give to (or have given to) and why. What have you done to help someone else in need? No matter how insignificant, for humans and non-humans alike. Also, what has someone done to help you that meant a great deal?
Have fun discussing, getting ideas, etc...
Just something to help us appreciate the little and big things biggrin

Perhaps some people could post links to good, Jewish charity organizations so if anyone's in the mood to give a little tzedakah we could! :3 http://www.jdc.org/ - American Jewish Join Distribution Committee, currently they're focusing efforts on tsunami relief. http://www.ajws.org/ - American Jewish World Service, dedicated to helping Jewish communities around the world. http://www.ajfca.org/- Jewish Family and Children Services, a wonderful organization to help poor or needy Jewish families. I know our local chapter has been very active in helping Russian Jewish immigrants find homes and help. heart And as for me... I have my tzedakah box, and whenever it's full I bring it to either JFCS or give it to my JCC to give to a good charity they know of. I try to get all the spare change I have at the end of the day into the tzedakah box.

I council my friends alot with their problems, also on another forum I am on I try to help people out there. It's a Linkin Park forum, and alot of LP fans are very suicidal so I try and help them to talk rather than keep it inside till they blow. I also gave money to the tsunami disaster, and I have given money to beggars. It's not much but I try my best to help. 3nodding

Nothing actually Jewish, but through the clubs I belonged to in school, and things like that, I've done alot. Make-a-wish, the cancer society are big ones. and on Long Island, you've prob'ly eaten some clams I've helped to raise (yes. I was a member of the Mariculture Project, or the " Clam Club" stare ), and lots of local envirmental projects near my home. If you're ever on Long Island, check out Sweet Briar XD
In college I do some stuff for NYPIRG, but I haven't really dedicated myself to anything yet. Which kind of makes me sad.

Well I usually give money to the various charties that my school (former school now...damn college...6 days till school gonk ) fundraises for. I once sold badges for one of the charites. Also I gave money to the tusnami appeal. Not much but if I'm making at least a small difference that's all that counts.

I have to admit, I am not involved in any major charities, Jewish or otherwise. But I do give once in a while when I feel generous. During highschool I did some charity that involved helping at primary schools, that kind of thing. Rusu I council my friends alot with their problems, also on another forum I am on I try to help people out there. I also spend a lot of time being the listen-advice-person for my friends. Making someone smile/laugh (at the appropriate time) is always rewarding!
