Kuyoja wasa outside this time, as he found a gym often too crowded to learn staff fighting in. He had the staves laying on a cloth on the grass as he set up matts outside. It seemed strange to havet he matts outside but he knew barefoot on slick grass was not a good idea...especially this fresh into spring.
He was waiting for a new child, this one with the DNA of a camel. He had no previous classes as he could tell and thus he though the staff fighting would be a good way to start off.

Oliver was hurrying, and he knew he would be late if he didn't. The camel boy was nervous, and this would be his first ever combat lesson. He'd never really approved of violence, but he had known it would come eventually. All the children at D-corp had to learn to fight, his mother had told him. He huffed as he finally made his way outside, and headed over to Kuyoja, looking a tad nervous. As usual, Trace, his brass dragon companion, bounded along at his side, happy to be joining Ollie in another one of his classes.
"Hello, I'm Oliver...I'm sorry if I'm a little late." he said, looking guilty, and hating to make bad impressions. He blinked a little, his eyes getting used to the sun as it was the first time today he'd been out. The waeather was quite gorgeous, and he couldn't help but appreciate the sunshine, and the dew that was sparkling in the grass. He smiled as Trace nudged his head up under his hand. "Oh yes, this is my dragon, Trace." he added on quickly, giving his companion's neck a gentle rub.

Kuyoja looked up as he heard the boy approach he nodded his head at the introduction he then formally bowed to the dragon as he respected them greatly.
"It is good to have met you both, and no you arn't late, just on time really." He replied as he then looked Oliver over and nodded his head again. He was wearing suitable clothing he had decided there was no sense makinghim change into gi.
"Today we will be learning about Bojutsu, which translates loosely into staff fighting." He stated as he moved over to pick up one of the staves and then handed it to him. It was a light bamboo one, it was good to start of with lighter weapons so the child could get accustomed to the weight.
"We will start with the bamboo staves, now they do tend to crack when exccessive force is used..so expect them to break. We are just using these until you get accustomed to the weight." He stated as he moved to grab his own.

((Sigh, I am not sure how I missed this, but I really don't want Olly to fail, or for me to have to start another melee RP x_x I don't know if we can just continue or what. School started and the shop was on a kind of hiatus, so...))
Oliver sighed with relief, glad not to be scolded. He knew some of the teachers could be stricter than others, and with a curious dragonling at his side it was sometimes hard to keep everything on track. "It's good to meet you as well, Mister Kuyoja!"
Trace chirped , and bowed his head in return, though no one had ever bowed to him before. He rather liked this man! His unusual wings giving a soft flutter, he moved over to the side of the matts and flopped into the cool, dewy grass, content to sit and watch while Oliver took his class.
"B-Bojutsu. Okay!" the camel nodded vigorously as the concept was explained to him. He was still a timid creature, not a fighter at heart at all, but all kids needed to learn how to fight. When Kuyoja went to grab one of the bamboo sticks, he did the same.

(that's fine, we can continue. A lot of people havn't posted in months so we can just continue. No sense starting a new one if you replied now XD )
Kuyoja nodded his head though he didn't smile, he seemed a bit stiff but that was just how he was. He never was one for getting emotionally involved with his students and preferred to keep reserved in his classes and to the point. Which was learning.
He held the staff in his hand he let the end of it rest against his toes as he shifted his weight and eye'd Oliver up figuring how to work this class out given the child's rather unusual body type. He wasn't sure how good the boy's balance was due to his hump.
"Tell me do you have troubles with your balance?" he inquired being straught to the point. IF he did have troubles they m ay have to to work on other aspects first.

(Thank you so so much x_x I am so close to finishing his growth reqs lol and I hate to keep starting over with melee)
Oliver nodded, a determined look plastered across his features. He had been dreading this class because he was not the confrontational sort. He didn't like to roughhouse much except if it was playing with Trace or Donat, otherwise he was shy, or liked quieter activities like reading or games. He had finally resolved, however, to just try his best, like his mother had encouraged him to do. All the kids had to learn battle tactics, and there was no point in trying to avoid it.
He held the staff, and quickly took to mimicking the way his teacher was holding his own. At the question, he hesitated for a thoughtful moment before replying. "Well, I am a bit clumsy with my feet sometimes... but I'm a good runner!" he replied with a nod, and a sheepish grin. It was true, if fancy footwork was involved he had to work a bit harder with coordination. Fortunately, the hump hardly hindered the young camel's movement.

(hehehe no problem <3)
Kuyoja looked over Oliver a long moment before nodding his head. A good runner..that could prove useful though if agilility wasn't in his fortee they may have to work on it a bit.
"We won't have to worry about anything too fancy at the beggining. We will mostly be dealing with basic foot positions as well how to handle the staff itsself." He began as he went to stand in front of his student showing him how to hold the staff with one hand close to himself and the other further down the shaft. He shifted his feet so they were spread apart though close enough together he could pivot easily.
"Lets start with basic handling. The staff isn't too heavy for you is it?"

Oliver grinned a bit lopsidedly as his teacher looked him over. "If you mean my hump, it doesn't affect much at all. I don't move really fast, but I do have good endurance." he said, providing a little more information. He was no cheetah, but he had wonderful endurance skills, as he had learned with Mr. Solon.
Oliver nodded as Kuyoja spoke, letting the man show him how to hold the staff, and imitating the foot posture that the man showed him, moving his unusual feet accordingly. "No, it feels about right, I think." Oliver replied, hefting the weapon. It was just bamboo after all, and he felt he could handle it.

Kuyoja nodded his head when he was satisfied with the position and hand positioning.
"First thing we will learn is the basic move of moving the staff around in a circle, twirling if you may call it." He gave a demonstration moving the staff around using both his hands to manipulate the movement so that it was rotating in the air before him.
"This helps to deflect blows, of course it is more effective the faster you go, but I want you to see how the staff is moving." He offered before he stopped the mvoement completely.
"It is much like moving a baton, try to do it yourself but make sure you don't hit the ground with either end."

The camel tilted his head as he watched, very attentive. His eyes moved as he tried to watch Kyoja's hands, to get a feel of what he was doing. It looked kind of tough. He could have sworn he'd seen someone do it before, on TV or something, some silly kung fu movie.
Twirling. Defect the blows. He wanted to remember everything about what he was learning. He often wrote things about what he learned in his classes in his journal, when no note-taking was involved. He nodded slowly.
"I think I see how you're doing it," he said, brows furrowed, "I'll try!" he started to twirl it, a little clumsily at first, not nearly as smoothly as Kuyoja had. One end smacked the ground, and he felt himself blush, quickly lifting the staff up a bit higher as he started again.

Kuyoja was patient and watched in silence offering a bit of advice like adjusting the boy's grip and moving it a bit higher on the staff to avoid having the end hit the ground. He also showed how to angle the staff so it would flow more easily when turned.
All in all he was pleased with Oliver's attentiveness he nodded his head to show how pleased he was. Even if his face remained...rather serious.
"Good, once you feel like you have gotten then hang of that I can show you the next step."

Oliver heeded the advice to the best of his abilities, laughing softly as the motions became a bit more easier, pleased as he began to spin the staff a bit better. He was going to have to practice though, he knew.
Oliver nodded back, a good deal more expressive than his teacher was. He felt excited, and hopeful.
"Alright!" he said, and tried it again, and another time, wanting to make sure he had a good grasp of it.

Kuyoja was impressed with Oliver's level of dedication, he watched until he felt that boy had seemed to have gotten ahold of the first move.
"Very good." He stated though he hardly sounded like he was giving praise. " Now I want to show you how to strike." He continued as he went to stand before Oliver and then started off with the twirling technique, it seemed like the same move until suddenly he brought the top end of the staff down in a striking method before pulling it back. It was a technique used to strike down upon the enemey and then withdraw the weapon.
"I would like you to try it." He explained as he demonstrated the move once more.

Oliver watched attentively as he was shown the next maneuver, inwardly appreciating the small words of praise, but subduing himself like the teacher seemed to be doing. It helped to reinforce that fighting was to be taken seriously.
Oliver nodded. "Alright, I'll try it out." he replied, and started to twirl the staff again. He faltered the first couple of times, but got a nice, sharp downward swing on his fourth try. "Like this?" he asked, trying it again.

Kuyoja watched and paid close attention to how the boy raised his arms and brought the weapon down the first, second third and finally the fourth time. Of course it was wobbly imperfect but her hardly thought that a student would get it right on their very first lesson.
He nodded his head when asked how it was he showed him one more time. Corrected his posture and then indicated for him to try again. This time he went through the steps one by one with him. Slow..meticulous...but definantely worth doing for the boy.
Once done he asked Oliver to try the move again, and inquired how it felt this time around.
