Physical Description: At his age, Jisken hasn't had the chance to grow out, but he's certainly grown up: at 5'11", pole-thin, and still growing, he already towers over his two siblings. Tanned by the Igen sun, his skin is a coppery color, though his curly mop of hair is not much darker, a brown lightened by his time in the sun. His eyes are a dark hazel, though often mistaken for brown unless in the right light, which is rare considering that they hide under a pair of bushy eyebrows that make him appear far more intimidating than the boy himself. His body is laced with wiry muscles, especially in his legs, which are often shown because of his habitual fashion of knee-length shorts of a light, airy cloth--and little else. His hands and feet are particularly leathery (though none of him is baby-soft), and depending on whether or not he's been working, he might smell faintly bovine.
Personality: Those who best understand Jisken describe him as mellow, and it largely fits the youth, who often takes the role of mediator among the younger weyrbrats of Igen. He's a personable fellow, if not the most learned, and he adheres to a strict sense of honor instilled into him at a young age. Typically, he's the type to go with the flow, to wait something out until the worst has passed, but this applies only to his own personal problems: to others, he takes it as a personal responsibility to help from start to finish. However, modest is not a word to use for the young man, who takes deep pride in his work. Although it normally takes a good bit of irritation to get at his nerves, one way to directly get him upset is to challenge his workmanship, whether a leather vest or a diplomatic decision made to keep the weyrbrats at peace.
History: Jisken spent most of his life at Igen Hold, and as soon as he was old enough was taken as an apprentice to the tanneries, where his stout father worked to support an older daughter and, at the time, the newest addition to the family, later revealed to be a female as well. The middle child, Jisken nevertheless took responsibility for his siblings, and by extension the fellow children of his playgroup. Fourteen was an important year for him: it was the year he beat up some harper punk for getting his older sister with child without wedding her, and it was the also the year he was first Searched. Although his mother had reservations about his leaving, his father was entirely for it ("Ye dun get inta histry skinnin' beasts," he said). Originally, Jisken stayed at Igen Weyr, as it was closest, but after two failures at Igen and the prospect of eggs at the nearby Ista, he has decided to take his luck there.
Pets: None. Never seemed to really care one way or the other, either.
Other/Talents: Jisken is used to pretty long work-days, so the idea of hard labor doesn't bother him. He also understands sewing to some degree, though he wouldn't be the one to turn to for any fine embroidery.
