As we don't have a musical thread and I'm quite obsessed with them, here one now appears.
Do you enjoy musicals? Do you have a favourite show? A favourite composer or lyricist? What shows have you seen professionally? Locally? Have you been in local productions? This is the place to discuss all of that, as well as the latest musical news.
It's hard for me to pick a favourite show, but it's probably either Sunday in the Park with George or Ragtime. I also never seem to get tired of My Fair Lady.
I'm about to step out to have our anniversary dinner, though, so I'll post more when I get back.

I'm actually surprised by how little I've seen professionally. Most of the musicals I've seen have been film versions or community/high school productions. What professional productions I have seen have mostly been the US national touring companies. Speaking of which, I have tickets to Mary Poppins for the next week. I'm very excited, as the actors who originated the roles of Mary and Burt on Broadway will be reprising the roles here. I also bought Josh tickets to see Rent in April with Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp. It's so great to be able to see some shows again!
Sadly, I've only been in two shows. In 7th and 8th grade, I was in the ensemble for Children of Eden and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at my school. The next year, the teacher who directed the shows retired, and the guy who took over after that only ever did jazz comedies that required tap. Needless to say, I never made it into another show. I wish I could get into community theatre, but only the suburbs around here seem to have such things.
Is anyone else really excited by the fact that film musicals are back in vogue? Nine is coming out this year, and film versions of Wicked, Aida, In the Heights, Spring Awakening, Follies, and Jekyll & Hyde are all said to be in the works. Is there a musical you really wish they'd film? I'm personally surprised that Les Miserables and Ragtime haven't been optioned for film.

I've seen Cinderella, but that was a community show. I enjoyed it very much, but I haven't seen any professional shows before - it's something I'd like to do though - go to professionally done musicals. They're a genre of performance which interests me.

I've only ever seen the made-for-TV versions of Cinderella, both the Leslie Ann Warren one from the 60s and the one with Brandy from the 90s. It's a cute show and I enjoy it. It's actually been done with some frequency by various theatre groups in Pittsburgh back when I lived there, but I never was able to go.

I love musicals. My fave has to be the film version of Sweeney Todd.
Rent is one of my tops, as well. I never get tired of it. I also liked Across the Universe.
From the high school perspective, I have seen My Fair Lady; it rocked.
I am in Beauty and the Beast this year (in the pit).
I would love to see Spring Awakening and RENT on broadway. Les Mis seems like it would be nice to see, as well.

I enjoy Les Miserables and Rent, but the hype that surrounds them made them less enjoyable for me than if I had seen them without being subjected to said hype. Spring Awakening is on tour this year, so I'm hoping to see it when it comes through Chicago this summer.

Gilbert and Sullivan have to be my favorites. H.M.S. Pinafore, The Mikado, and Pirates of Penzance are hilariously awesome as well as smart.

Someone else likes Gilbert and Sullivan! I'm quite surprised by this, to be honest. I'm really only familiar with Penzance and The Mikado, sorry to say, but I would love to see others.
I am making a list now of musicals. I'm sure it's quite sad, but it lists shows alphabetically and names the composer, lyricist, and source material. sweatdrop

I love musicals and stage plays. I've seen Hamlet at the Shakespeare theatre in DC as well as Don Juan. I love the music for Wicked and hope to see the play someday. I enjoy so many musicals I can't even name them all XD My Fair Lady, Phantom of the Opera, Sweeney Todd...those are some of my favorites besides Gilbert and Sullivan productions.

All of the shows you named at the end are fabulous, of course. The Phantom of the Opera was the first professional show I ever saw. When I was in sixth grade, my family went to Toronto to see it. I never got to see it on tour, though. I really want to see it again!
Speaking of which, what are everyone's thoughts on the sequel that's coming out? Josh and I agree that it sounds pretty lame, premise-wise, but I'm interested to see how it pans out.
As for Wicked, I love it, but those who have read the novel should keep an open mind, as it's quite different.

My favorite composer is Tchaikovsky.
I have never seen a musical live sadly, but I have seen several operas live but they aren't musicals so I guess this is not the place to talk about them.

Zac: I think you missed the point of this thread. Tchaikovsky, while an awesome composer, has nothing to do with musical theatre and, therefore, does not belong in this thread. That poll is for composers/lyricists for musicals only.
