Who: Vyn, Ethan, Rivener and Aphismet. When: Evening, the sky has darkened and the stars are starting to show. Where: Ethan's penthouse, Aphimets home, the concert venue in Durem. Weather: It's a brisk night with a light wind.
The clean room provided starkly cut shadows during the daytime; They were crisp to the taste and Vyn had become accustomed to feeding on them almost like a snack, using them to keep hunger at bay, whilst keeping room for more delectable interesting shadows. Right now, as she prepared, her amber eyes were almost glowing with excitement at the prospect of the chaotic delights that awaited her. The shade cast by the bed quivered as she ate in silence - her rune pulsing to the beat of the blaring music in her ears that contrasted with the quiet almost as much as the shadow's clashed with the white walls. Her wings fluttered as she tapped the music player's pause button, allowing her to hear the silence for a while. The house was quiet and she really had to strain her ears to guess where he carer was. However, judging by the soft murmuring of the television, he was probably situated in the living room - catching the news before they left the house to pick up Rivener and then go to the concert.
The thought of the concert made her smile. It had been the light at the end of the tunnel recently. Ethan's confusing tutoring made her relapse into dingy sullen moods where she rarely talked willingly and sat along in her room with her music. Now that the end of the tunnel was near she could help but perk up. Serenely she floated through the penthouse, tapping a few of the fish tanks on the way with her black nails making the bright splashes of tropical colour dart through the water.
Entering the living room she caught the eye of her guardian - already in a coat, about to turn off the television. "Shall we go?" He nodded and smiled, eyes crinkling as he did so. This show of age had almost become accepted by the frei and rather than inwardly shuddering, she simply turned and made her way to the exit, looking forward to seeing Rivener again pushing negative thoughts aside so that she could enjoy the evening ahead of her.
As they got into the car to go to the adress Aphismet had given Ethan Vyn even hummed the tune to one of the songs that would most likely played. In the front seat Ethan smiled to himself - his birthday gift to her certainly seemed to be making her happy..

Rivener was excited. This would be his first outing as a Sigel, to a concert, the one Vyn had mentioned so long ago. He'd been glad to hear from her again, asking him to go with, and after a short amount of convincing, Rivener had been able to get Aphismet to agree to letting his charge go. Mentioning that Ethan would be there to supervise had been the turning factor, much to Riv's discontent. He was a Sigel now, not a child anymore, and so really he should be able to be trusted on such an outing. The Scorpion hadn't protested too much, however, not wanting the approval to be overturned because he was being annoying or something.
And while Aphi HAD given permission to go, he was still fussing around Riv's room looking worried as the Raevan prepared. "Are you sure you have everything you need?" the chef asked for the nth time that hour.
Rivener sighed. "Yeees, Aphi. I have the money you gave me, and the cell phone you lent me, and Vyn has the tickets."
"You remember the speed dial number to-"
"YES, Aphi. God, relax! You act like I'm going to somewhere dangerous like a war or something. It's just a concert! I'll be fine! I'm strong now anyway, I'm not gonna let people hurt me."
"...That's kinda what I'm afraid of," Aphi mumbled.
Rivener frowned at Aphi's reflection in the mirror as the Scorpion brushed his hair. He'd heard that, but Riv would pretend he hadn't. "It's almost time, so I'm gonna go wait downstairs. ...How do I look?" Putting the brush down, the dark sigel turned and smiled at his guardian, placing his longer red locks of hair just so over his shoulders.
Aphismet sighed and smiled, shaking his head. "You look fine, Rivener. Ah, did you tell her you grew?"
"No, it'll be a surprise," the Scorpion replied with a smirk, heading downstairs.

The car journey didn't take too long, and felt even shorter due to the rush of excitement that Vyn was experiencing. The peculiar feeling that had occurred before she had first met Ethan, like butterflies moving around inside her, seemed to be happening again; however, rather than it being a dreading feeling, the butterflies seemed to be making her spirits soar and her rune glowed with elated red joy. She felt so hyped with eagerness that she even sparked up a conversation with Ethan during the journey: "So, what will you do when we get there?" "Oh, well," Ethan had thought of this already."If you want, I'll keep away from you and Rivener - watch from a distance?" At this she smiled, nodding cheerfully. "Yes please." Grinning to himself, glad she was happy with that arrangement he drove on till they arrived at Aphismet's house.
The shadow frei eagerly exited the vehicle, floating up to the door of the house without waiting for Ethan and knocked. Pausing for a response she decided, just to be safe that Rivener or Aphismet heard that they had arrived, to press the doorbell too. The businessman trotted up behind her, his lips still twisted into a grin. Ethan didn't even consider complaining or scolding her for rushing off, in fact he was pleased to see his charge finally getting motivated about something - everything he'd seen her do so far was always rather lack lustre and she rarely had any conviction in her actions.

Rivener was half-way down the stairs when the knock came, faintly heard through the stairwell. "Ah, they're here!" the Scorpion chimed out, floating down faster as the doorbell rang. Aphismet was left to follow, rushing down the stairs as carefully as he could manage. He was therefore still in the process of descending when Rivener reached the front door, nearly throwing it open in his enthusiasm to see Vyn and show off his new body.
"Vyn! Hi! Happy birthday!" Rivener announced, fangs showing as he grinned widely and leaned forward to give his "sister" a hug. "Are you excited? I am! I was looking up some songs online earlier today! It's going to be fun! ...Oh, hi Ethan," Riv added with a smile, bowing his head at the gentleman.
Aphismet slowed to a stop near the door then, grinning sheepishly. "Sorry, he's faster than me. Thanks for taking Rivener along, Ethan. If he is problematic, or anything at all, there's a cellphone in his pocket with my number on speed-dial. Number one calls here. Hopefully everything will be nice though!"
"Pf, problematic. I'm not going to be problematic!" Riv frowned over at his guardian, rather upset that the man would be saying that in front of other people. Rivener'd been trying to be mature for a while now!

The door swung open with some force and Vyn shifted back in surprise, blinking rapidly in shock. When she had recovered she realised that Rivener was standing in the doorway.. Yet something was different.. For a start he seemed taller, he had always been at a higher height than her, but now she had to really crane her neck to look into his face. And the hair framing his face also seemed to have changed; it was pretty much the same at the front, but at the back it seemed to have been cut shorter.. Then she noted that his clothes were different too, his chest was exposed more now and... and... he had a lower body.. Vyn stared, her amber eyes drinking in the chiselled abdominals. "Rivener... You've grown?" She exclaimed, her voice full with awe.
She hardly took in his babble of excitement and had to blink to refocus herself. She was so stunned in fact that she didn't even pull away from her 'brother's' hug. "Thank you.. I think this will be a very enjoyable present." She replied, recovering from her shock and smiling again. She was glad that he liked J-rock.. She didn't want to drag him along if he wasn't going to enjoy it. She drifted out of his warm embrace and nodded politely at Aphismet as he arrived at the bottom of the stairs.
Ethan was also impressed by the boy's growth. He was certainly handsome and the venomous looking wings assured him that Vyn would be safe in Rivener's hands at the concert - he probably wouldn't have to shadow them so closely now. Although, obviously Aphismet was a little worried.. Ethan tried to reassure him with a casual smile. "Of course, I'll keep you informed. Although I'm sure that Rivener will be just fine - he's certainly a strapping young lad now."

Rivener flapped his wings pridefully at hearing Ethan call him a "strapping young lad". The shocked, amazed look on Vyn's face was also making him grin. Riv knew he had to be careful or he could quickly become quite full of himself. He didn't want to be one of those vain jerks from the movies, so he had to try and stay somewhat modest even if he happened to think he was rather stunning now. "Yep, I've grown! Cool hunh? ...Are we going now?" Riv prompted, floating out of the house to stand next to the small group instead of in front of it.
Aphismet smiled and nodded at Ethan, glad that no one seemed to be afraid of the new Rivener. That had been Aphi's biggest fear: those wings looked positively deadly now, and Riv hadn't been shy about poisoning people when he was young... Although he hadn't done anything of the sort since the Incident. Well, unless you count the Valentine's thing... "Thank you again, Ethan. I'm sure Riv's capable of protecting Vyn, yeah. Have fun, you two! And Riv, b-be careful!"
"Yeah yeah!" Riv replied dismissively, floating back to the car with Vyn and opening the door for her, following her into the vehicle. "I am glad to see you again Vyn! Let's have fun tonight okay?"

Ethan nodded and jangled the car keys as Rivener stepped out to join them. He could understand the man's worry, if it was him in his position he too would be extremely nervous; already he thought of Vyn as a daughter and he could bare to think of her getting hurt. Aphismet had raised Rivener since birth so evidently he would probably be feeling even more worried. "Yes, we'll be leaving now, I'll take good care of him Aphismet. Don't worry about it." He reassured as he turned, a confident smile on his face - he was no expert on concerts, obviously being a slightly elderly businessman he didn't frequent them.. But he was sure he could deal with it, and anyway he never turned down a challenge, especially if Vyn's happiness was in the equation.
As the pair drifted back to the car Vyn couldn't help but repress her excitement and her rune flared so brightly that it partially lit the pathway. "Of course we shall have fun." She replied, strapping herself in loosely so that she had enough room for her wings not to get crushed. Despite the darkness of the car she could still see clearly and she turned to face Rivener, curious to how the growth had come about she scanned him again.. "How did you grow??" She mused, spotting another interesting feature - a small indent in his stomach. What was that for? Why did he need a hole?? It was so intriguing to the young girl. She assumed Ethan also had this under his clothes but she had not desire to ask him to show her or explain. It would be easier to hear it from her friend. Plus, he seemed very proud of it too.
Ethan also entered the car and slotted the keys into the ignition. The engine purred into action and he began the journey to the venue; his concentration mostly on the road, but slightly listening in on the unusual pair behind him.

The engine's start was like a signal. "GO!" went the evening, and the fun could begin. Rivener's chest gave a lurch of excitement. He hardly ever got to do stuff without Aphismet around, it felt so free and wonderful! Even if there WAS another guardian around, it was still somehow special to be going to something as wonderful as a concert all by himself. The Scorpion waved out the window to Aphi as the car pulled out of the driveway. Rivener chuckled to see Aphi wave back and then make the sign for "call me". Such a worry-wart.
Vyn was talking then, asking about his growth, and Rivener turned his full attention back to her, grinning proudly. He was one of a few now! He only knew of Roux, Laz, and Melisande who had grown like this... "It was painful. I, erm... Well at this time last year I was losing my skin, it was all cracking and falling off. It happened again this year, but it also felt painful, like I was trying to fit myself into a small box... But one morning I woke up feeling better, and I looked like this!" Riv smiled. "It was a big surprise! Hahaha, you should have seen the look on Aphi's face when he saw. He even fainted!"
The Scorpion laughed at the memory, even if at the time it had worried him greatly to see his guardian crumple like that. "I think it means you're more grown-up inside too, because just the night before I changed I happened to be thinking about stuff like what I'd done when I was younger and whatnot... And then I was thinking that I was ready to be grownup. I only meant that I'd act more mature, but my body kinda followed suit."
With a shrug Riv shook his head. "But enough about me! This is YOUR birthday, so let's talk about you! Did you find Japanese lessons online after all? I learned a few words! I know "konnichiwa", "arigato", "tasukete", "matte"... Erm, of course "Hai" and "Ie"... Uhhh, that's all I can remember at the moment. OH and I think "Mako" means "shark", so it was really funny to think that a "Mako shark" must be called a "mako mako" in Japanese." Riv laughed, a mirthful sound. He was ranting a bit, but now he clammed up to allow his friend space to reply.

Ethan smiled as they pulled away, Rivener seemed to be the typical teenager, desperate to escape his father, and Aphismet was playing the role of your average parent; worried about him but knowing that he had to start to let go sometime. He pondered silently whether he would reach that point.. But he shook his head slightly, best to concentrate on the present, he thought, pressing on the accelerator - the car eating up the road beneath them charging onwards almost as eager as the raevans in the back seats.
Painful? That didn't sound too pleasant.. And the idea of being trapped in her own skin and having to break out had the frei shiver slightly. She hated physical contact and confinement - she had the soul of a wandering rose and a defiant living shadow, so obviously it was in her blood that she would be afraid of such things.. However, who was to say that her growth, when it came, would be the same as Riveners. "Fainted in a good way, right?" She inquired.. Although she didn't know Aphismet extraordinarily well, she still didn't like the idea of him being hurt - he was Rivener's father after all.
At the change of topic Vyn nodded, "Ethan got me a teach yourself japanese set." She tapped her fingers on the door handle as she recalled a phrase that she could say to her friend. She was no expert but she managed to scrounge up some words that didn't quite make a correct grammatical sentence but she was proud none the less. "Rivener 今夜 誕生日 コンサート" He accent and pronounciation was perfect and quite chuffed with herself she crossed her arms, waiting for her friend's reaction.

Rivener chuckled, amused that the shadow frei was so concerned for Aphi. "Yes, fainted in a good way. He was expecting me to be miserable and shedding still, but I wasn't!" The Scorpion smirked at the memory. What a shock that must have been, to make the white-haired man pass out like that. Rivener was enjoying the reactions to his new body very very much all across the board.
Vyn's next words were rather surprising. "He did? How cool!" Riv exclaimed about Ethan's gift, grinning. Vyn must have enjoyed that a lot-... His red eyes blinked open wide as the rose girl said something to him in flawless-sounding Japanese. The scorpion's mouth fell open and he lifted an eyebrow, tilting his head. "I-... I have NO idea what you just said, but it sounded really good!" Rivener smirked. "Damnit, I have to catch up if I want to keep talking with you. Heehee. We could chat and Ethan wouldn't understand... right? Do you speak Japanese, Ethan?" Riv asked, turning his attention from Vyn for a second.

Pleased that the scorpion was impressed by her Japanese speaking the rose slunk into silence as her brother-figure started to talk with Ethan. Ethan also had been stating his approval whenever he had overheard her practising at home, yet she couldn't quite comprehend why others seemed to find it so difficult. It was simply listening and repeating - a skill that she had a knack for, whilst Ethan apparently did not; his attempts at learning snippets sounded flat and dull to the ear. He never sounded anything like the examples on the learning C.D. So, if Rivener did manage to learn some Japanese Ethan wouldn't stand a chance at understanding.
Quietly pleased that the sigel was including him in the conversation (despite his comment about learning Japanese to exclude him) Ethan shook his head, yet didn't break his gaze from the road. "No," he chuckled, "I can barely struggle through French and I took many classes in that to help with business negotiations." It was a shame, but then again, knowing French was not a necessity. It helped, but he could afford to pay out for a translator..
The shadow girl turned her gaze to the window during her friend and father's small exchange of words. Although it was dark her black eyes could peirce the shadows and she silently regarded the world whizzing past.. How long was it till they got to the concert? She mused, her rune still lit up with excitement.

Rivener shrugged, really having just been interested in knowing if their conversation would be overheard when they spoke Japanese. The Scorpion turned back to Vyn and continued in easy conversation, making sure not to talk too much lest the rose frei get worn out from it.
Thanks to all the talking, the rest of the drive went rather quickly. The car was pulling into the city and even though the concert was a rather small venue, it was still very obvious that something was going on in town. Young people dressed in usual J-rock attire were walking the busy streets, all heading in roughly the same direction, and there was a line up outside the large club. Riv smirked to himself; they may not have a lower torso, but he and Vyn would fit right in. Their dark clothes and Rock-Star looks were bound to get them noticed, and honestly the vain side of the dark Sigel was rather pleased by this. "Are we here? Is that the place? It looks so busy."

It felt like they'd only just left when Rivener pondered aloud whether or not they'd arrived. Vyn was surprised; she'd drifted into her own private train of thought when the conversation with her brother-like companion petered out and had not even noticed the crowded streets full of people garbed suitably for the J-rock concert. However, now that she'd been alerted of the fact that they were on the verge of arriving at possibly the most enjoyable evening of her 'new' life she buzzed with excitement - rune flaring noticeably and maintaining it's bright light as Ethan manoeuvred the car into a car park. The safety locks on the doors clicked open and, quicker than Ethan had ever really seen her move, Vyn was outside, the soft night breeze playing on her pale skin as she hummed an ethereal tune. "Excited?" She tilted her head to Rivener, hoping that the teenage raevan was as equally animated about the concert as she was.
Following his charge's lead Ethan also exited the car, locking it once all three of them were standing, floating, outside of the car. He pocketed the keys and clasped his hands, wringing them slightly. This concert would be a new and alien experience for him too, and he was hoping that he would be able look after the unusual pair. At this thought, his grey eyes flitted to the sigel, taking in the muscled abs and wickedly dangerous looking wings. On second thoughts, he doubted Rivener would need much looking after, despite Aphismet's concerns...
"That queue you saw, we get to skip it and get straight into the venue." He could barely contain his smirk at the privileges that his money was able to buy them. "We can be standing right at the front."

Rivener practically flew out of the car when it stopped, just as fast as Vyn. Her glowing rune was already a dead giveaway to how excited she was about this, and Rivener's was glowing stronger the more time passed, pulsing like a heartbeat under his waist. With a grin he turned towards Vyn at that question, chuckling. "Of course!" he replied, fangs glittering.
Riv, ever mindful of his "little sister", floated around to her side, escorting her towards the lineup that Ethan quickly informed them they could just skip. Red eyes glanced over at the man in amusement, noting the use of the word "we", not "you". "You're coming in too? You're gonna stand out. You should have dressed a little less... uptight, maybe." He chuckled, robbing his words of their possible sting.
The group floated by the lineup, and as expected everyone turned to look. He and Vyn were quite an awe-inspiring sight, Riv was sure. Even if they had NOT been floating half-bodies, they'd still be very impressive. Rivener held his head high and proud, like he deserved to just go inside without waiting in line simply because of his looks. Hell, he could probably pass for a REAL J-rocker. So could Vyn, easily. The Scorpion actually grinned as he heard a few of the whispering comments, Who are they? Are they in the band?
The line's bouncer checked their tickets at the entrance and nodded them in, parting that sacred velvet rope to allow the trio to pass. Rivener smirked rather haughtily and led his sister inside. "Everyone thought we looked great," he noted under his breath once they made it into the rather deserted club, grinning.

The sigel's comment on Ethan's clothing resulting in a slight frown and re-adjustment of his tie, maybe it wasn't hip and trendy but he was sure that Vyn would much rather have him stick out than attempt to blend in; judging by people standing in the queue, J-rock fashion involved heavily caked on eye make up and gothic looking clothing - not a style that would suit the fifty five year old businessman without much embarrassment to both him and the rosen frei. Although, perhaps the raevan youth did have a minor point, and Ethan unbuttoned the top button on his shirt, loosening the collar in an attempt to make himself seem less.. 'uptight'. "I apologise that I don't have the natural 'look' that you two possess." He retorted quietly as they made their way fast the queuing fans, a glimmer of pride in his aged eyes. The J-rockers certainly seemed to be enthralled by the company that he kept.
Normally attention was something that Vyn shied away from. She prefered to remain hidden in the shadows, blooming quietly to herself away from the glare and noise of the general public. In fact, her frequent night time walks were a way of getting about without having to be stared at in the street for her bizarre eyes and lack of lower body. However, tonight it seemed as though this was her time to relish her out of the ordinary appearance and float proudly alongside her equally impressive friend. Her heart soared when she heard people whisper to each other inquiring if they were a band; her ribbon curled and it's jagged edges fluttered, emphasising the ethereal beauty of her rune, producing many more impressed gazes and mutterings.
Inside Vyn floated into the expanse of the club, a smile firmly planted on her delicate features. "That was amazing." She replied to Rivener, twirling around, examining the venue still giddy with elation. It was a large club, lit with coloured lights that put a red glow upon everything.. A few posters naming the bands were plastered to black painted columns. The stage was cluttered with band equipment but behind it on the backdrop was huge Japanese characters; 音楽. Vyn translated under her breath, "music."
A little awed at how happy Vyn was, he'd never been granted the privilege to see her smile so much, Ethan fell back - this was Vyn's present to share with Aphi. He'd just keep to the back and watch them to ensure they were alright, no point trying to strangle her freedom when she'd only just started to bloom.
