+THE OFFICIAL BODY MOD OF THE WEEK THREAD+

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The purpose of this thread is to highlight and provide information about a different mod every week. There will be info posted on the mod of the week at the start, and it will be open for the week to disscussion. I'm hoping that through this thread, all of you can share the knowledge you have of certain mods (maybe even pic if you've got 'em!), or perhaps learn about mods you didn't know existed, or more about ones you're concidering. Overall, I'd like this to be a friendly knowledgable disscussion about our favorite subject: MODS!!!

RULES:
-- follow the Gaia TOS
-- follow the guild rules
-- play nice with others
-- don't talk bad about a mod, or say how gross it is if it's not your cop 'o tea
-- try and keep the disscussion about the mod of that week

I'll count the "week" for a given mod, as starting on Sunday, and running through till about the middle of Saturday, then I'll change it up for the new week.

BTW, this thread is open to and kind of mod to be chosen for the week, ANY mod!

...I'm sure I've forgotten something off this opening post, so keep an eye on it, because I'll continue to edit it.

(04/05/09), the piercing of the week will be:
THE MEDUSA

---------------------------------------------------------------
Definition: A medusa piercing is an upper lip piercing, very similar to a labret piercing; it is placed in the philtrum, directly under the septum of the nose.

Procedure: Pierced the same way as a labret, but placed through the center of the philtrum.

Healing and Aftercare: Same care give as a labret.

Jewelry: This piercing is normally worn with a Labret Stud, although rings and other jewelry are possible. Some people stretch this piercing, sometimes significantly.

History and Culture: This piercing was named in the mid 1990s by Kerrick, a hairdresser and model from Toronto, Canada. The piercing was performed by Tom Brazda of Stainless Studios, although it was certainly not unheard of at that point. It just didn't have a name that had stuck.

What's interesting is that this is one of the few cases — others include the daith and rook — where a decorative name has trumped a proper anatomical name. The philtrum is the anatomically correct term for the midline groove of the upper lip which is located between the nose and the top of the lip.

How about we start with something simple, but ridiculously popular like lip piercings?

So on sunday, which is tomorrow if Im not mistaken, we'll start the first week with a lip ring?
PostPosted: Sat Mar 14, 2009 5:26 pm

yeah, we'll start with the lip, then I'll go with your suggestion the week after and do the septum...

I'm going to start setting it up today!

What kind of lip rings?
PostPosted: Sat Mar 14, 2009 8:15 pm

Im guessing it would just be all lip rings in general since its the very first one. A nice broad topic to start out with.

On a side note Zombina, you should put the weeks with the date and the piercing... kinda like this

07/03/09 Lip rings

or something like that.

Nice, Im actually thinking about getting a second set of snakebites... so like two lip rings on either side, I thought those were called spiderbites but Ive been wrong before.

My goal is to one day move up to three lip rings on either side and spread the name as shark bites.

@ Lance:
I'm pretty sure those are still considered spiderbites.
Haha, I wish I could find something to spread a name for.

Plus, is there any specified name for double lowbrets?
Like, the snakebite equivalent to lowbrets?
If you don't know what I mean, I have a picture on my profile of mine.
I'm just curious, I've never heard a slang term for them.

Oh I know what you mean, one of my friends is crazy about lip rings so she has pretty much all the ones you can possibly have razz

But I dont believe they have an actual name other than double lowbrets razz you could probably monopolize a name for them razz

And really? I thought spiderbites were just two on either side. Im determined to call them sharkbites though. It sounds so much better than spider bites anyways razz

I used to have 'snakebite' piercings, but I had to remove them because of the cosmetology school I enrolled into. I still currently have my center lip pierced though. :3
