If you're looking for quick gold, sell it. If you're willing to take a risk and shrug off a low valued item, go for it. Open it. I tend to sell gift boxes more often than opening them. For a list of all the possible items inside check tektek.

I open the blue and the pink boxes because I get more joy out of opening a present than I would from the relatively low prices they're selling for.
I sell the chests and the brown boxes because they really don't have anything I want in them anyway.
Your mileage will vary.
