Name: Abhijanya
Age: 17
Sex: female
Craft: Apprentice Harper
Physical Description:

Janya, as she is often called, stands at an average height of 5' 7" and is rather slight of frame. The girl herself looks very frail, slight frame, pale skin, and rather thin over all, but as often found out, looks are deceiving. Her boldness seems to have spilled over into her hair, the fire red adds an odd but fitting splash of color as it spills over her shoulders and down her back. It hasn't been cut in six years, but for convince's sake she has tied it back in wrapped sections. Her hands show signs of wear; small and slender, but also wrinkled and littered with the occasional scar. Janya's eyes are by far less odd than her hair, a bright blue that tends to sparkle in the sun, easily standing out amid pale skin and red hair. Her high cheekboned and narrow nosed face typically wears an indifferent, if not slightly annoyed expression that pulls at the corners of a delicate mouth. There is a grace to her when she moves, her dancer's body is as agile as any cat's.

Personality:
Janya is a rather blunt creature, taking and saying things exactly as they are, and not questioning that unless a particular spark of curiosity comes to life. By nature, the girl is a loner around people. In her short time, she's seen far to many people to far to many bad things to trust them very quickly, but she is not completely jaded. Despite her pessimistic air, Janya looks for the best in things, firmly believing that there is beauty in everything, and when there isn't, it simply hasn't been ushered in yet. Her blunt nature leads her to do right more than not. If there is help needed, she will give it as long as it is within her ability--often times, even if she can't, she'll seek out someone who can. Inversely, Janya can have a wicked temper. If she sees something she disagrees with, she will tell you.. This usually has one of two results, trouble, or a gentle laugh (trouble, more often than not).
Despite her occasional 'observation,' as she calls them, Janya is mainly a rather quiet girl. She does not care for uninteresting conversation, preferring to simply dismiss the other speaker and leave, believing that time is far better spent watching the dragons, or taking care of the herdbeasts.

Oddly enough, you won't catch her singing around people either unless requested. More or less as a rule, she is far more comfortable around animals. You can find her around the stables, and even the dragon weyrs when she gets the chance, singing to the animals about any number of things, perhaps even dancing for them. Though she has none of her own, it isn't odd to see firelizards listening intently, or even joining her in a dance.

History:
Abhijanya was born into a rather run of the mill trader family, and spent a majority of her childhood moving from hold to hold with her mother and father. As to be expected, making friends is not so easy when moving from place to place so regularly, but she was never without her allies. Often times you could see her lounging with one of her family's herdbeasts, or petting one of the domestic wherries--always quicker to make friends of animals than other people.

As a child, she had always been rather quiet, listening intently, and learning quickly. Her parents had at first though her to be a mute--she spoke her first words at six years old, and hardly cried as a babe. Even now, she sometimes stutters, not sure of exactly what word to say, and often becomes rather annoyed with herself as a result. When she was eight, she met an old Harper by the name of Casmir while her parents conducted their business in Ista Hold. The old man seemed to have captivated the girl with a song, and she listened to him for hours that day. Of course Janya had heard others sing before, or tell stories, but there was something about the old harper that made everything come alive. That first day, she'd exhausted the old man with a barrage of questions, wanting to know all she could about the stories, the songs, and how he made them come alive.

The two would meet as often as the trader family came to the Ista hold, and it wasn't long before Janya knew all of the old harper's songs. It even would come to pass that the young child would learn a new tune from another hold, and pass it on to her rather unofficial tutor. Casmir would have taken her to the Hall the first day he'd met her, but as any parents would be, her mother and father had been reluctant to let the odd child go.

As she grew, almost all of her best stories and songs centered around the dragons. If they hadn't, Casmir never would have thought to mention her to one of the Weyrleaders.. The old bard would be there to find out that she had been chosen as a Candidate, but he died the day before Abhijanya would leave...

Pets: None really, though it isn't odd to see some creature or another hanging around.

Other/Talents:
As any harper, she loves to sing, dance, and tell stories. She hardly ever denies a request for a song or story, only declining when she feels her muse is gone. When Casmir died, you could hardly catch a word from her, much less a song, but her first touching seemed to snap her back to herself.

Will this character be a candidate? Yes

Watchwher names always end in an sk. And given that she has a watchwher, I doubt she would be Searched as a Candidate. Her place with be at her wher- I don't think she could even Impress a dragon with a wher as a companion. She'd be used for mining or something along those lines.

Also, the watchwher's name would be after his bonded- Abhisk, or something similar.

I got the idea for the watchwher after the first book.. For the life of me, I cannot recall her name, but she impressed a queen.. The first one to go between in time.. But you're right, the watchwher died before she'd even thought of impressing anything.... It's edited now. Better?
