The day rolled on, and Uzuri sat upon a large rock, dazed. She flipped her paw from side to side, watching it lazily. She had wandered off again, away from the safety of the den she had recently began to call home. The wonderful dog that took care of her now, it was all like a dream. She found herself yearning to get out and away from it, though, for she found it increasingly hard to stay in one place for extended periods of time.

When she was alone like this, bad memories tended to rise to the surface, and it made Uzuri even more lethargic. The heat of the midday sun didn't help much, either.

He moved with great confidence over the dirt, a smile on his face. He had just managed to weasel a meal out of a much large wild dog, which he found to always be a good use of his time. It meant not having to do anything for himself.

Why should he worry when other animals are –so- willing to help a poor little puppy out?

Stopping Eusi saw a strange blue puppy not far from him, his head tilting to one side. She didn’t look like she had anything worth taking from her, but why not have a bit of conversation? Didn’t hurt anyone. He moved towards her, grinning. “Hey there,” he offered, “little hot to be lying out like that, don’t you think?”

Looking up, a reddish pup blocked the sun from her eyes. "Huh?" she hadn't been paying attention, so she hadn't noticed him. Her senses had been dulled recently, and she hated it. "Because it's hot, I'm not moving from this spot. Too much energy." she rolled onto her stomach and sat up, staring at the other pup directly. She looked him up and down- he didn't seem like too evil of a creature, so she didn't worry. "Besides, you're out in the heat, too, aren't you?"

“Yeah, I’m out in the heat,” the puppy replied, “but that’s only because I’m heading over to a watering hole right now. Figured having a nice dip in the cool water would be much better than baking in the sun like you are!” He grinned at her, proud that he had the better idea.

Or that he felt he had the better idea.

“If you’re nice,” he said, “I’ll let you come along with me. But you should probably make it worth my while. You got any food?”

Uzuri stared blankly at the pup for awhile; she can't believe he had actually tried to bargain with her. She stood, showing her superior height, and scoffed at his notion. "Nice? To you? Why would I do such a thing?" she rounded the pup, a menacing look growing on her face. She was becoming increasingly annoyed, and decided to take her frustration out on this pup.

"Why are you looking for food? Don't your parents provide for you?" her tone was harsh, in a mocking way.

“And what if I don’t have any parents?” The pup answered sharply, letting his tail coil around him the best it could as he sank against the ground in a sitting position. He didn’t seem to mind that she was a bit bigger than he was- a confident smile still on his brown and black face.

He did have parents, he just liked to lie.

“I’ve been living out here on my own almost since I was born! Can I help it if it gets a little hard sometimes? But, fine, if you don’t want to help a poor, homeless puppy that’s fine. I’ll just go to the watering hole by myself and try not to get eaten by something bigger than me.” He put on a pout, ears flattening against his skull.

That sounded......strangely familiar. His story, albeit told with a cocky attitude, was very similar to Uzuri's own life.

And boy, was it funny.

"You want sympathy?" her small giggle stopped and she stared him down. "Well, you're barking up the wrong tree, bub." her eyes flicked to the side, as she remembered her own life. "I grew up on my own, but did I ever beg for help from others? Did I ever throw myself a pity-party?" she was becoming agitated. She hated how someone was trying to get pity like this. Having grown up starving and fending for her life since she was a tiny pup, this boy's words jabbed her heart.

"I'd rather see you eaten by something than trying to use that as a way to get free stuff." she flipped her tail over his muzzle, turning so she wouldn't lash out at the smaller dog.

He was just so.........frustrating.

“Humph!” the puppy responded, “I don’t remember asking for YOUR story. And if I had I think I would have been a lot nicer about it than you were! Sympathetic, you know? I mean, geez, if someone has the same story as you aren’t you supposed to relate to them? You’re just a rude little thing and I don’t want to be anywhere near you.”

He really didn’t. Puppies that didn’t play along were of no interest to him. He couldn’t get anything from someone as heartless as he was.

“I’ll be going now,” he grunted, holding no interest in speaking to her any longer.

"You think that I should relate to you?" Uzuri found her foul mood sinking as time passed, no longer wanting to hold in her anger.

"And you call me rude." she rolled her eyes at the pup, the difference in age apparant now. "Next time you go up to someone, trying to have a pity-party thrown in your honor, you should be ready to hear what they have to say." her glare penetrated between his shoulder blades, unwavering as she stared the puppy down.

"So go on, then!" with her rage slipping from her as he started to walk in the opposite direction, she curled herself into a ball, hating that someone like that brought back all of those painful memories.

Eusi didn’t stop. There was nothing in her words that prompted him to. She didn’t seem to get it at all and he had no time for creatures that didn’t get it. There had to be someone easier he could scam off of and it wasn’t in him to play the game against an unwilling opponent.

She couldn’t even tell that he had been lying. Too busy sulking about her own life and trying to pretend that he was the one looking for the pity. It was almost enough to make him smile.

Had he been a bit older, he would have taken real delight in it.

(( adding a last response, just for length purposes. x3 ))

It almost seemed coldhearted, what the pup had done. Still coiled, Uzuri leant it to the fact that he was young, and probably didn't understand, or care to understand, the dynamics of things like this. She simply hated the fact that he had reduced her to such a thing; a wimpering mess was all that she was right now, bawling on the grass of the savannah.

Usually, pups were sweet things. Sweet things that were always happy, and wanted to play all of the time. Not things that made others feel like hopeless nothings.

This encounter......well, it kinda sucked.
