Dinng-Donng Kaimi released the doorbell and took half a step back, looking up at the house. She'd never babysat before, but everything she'd read made it seem like it couldn't possibly be that big of a deal. She even had a backpack full of things like a deck of cards and a twister-mat.
Naomi, who had not been pleased to discover that Kaimi was playing with fire, had told the girl in no uncertain terms that she'd better earn her own money if she expected to buy any more fire-dancing toys. And so here she stood. The door began to open and Kaimi put on a big, bright smile.

Thali opened the door, with a relieved look on her face. There was a new baby on her shoulder. The infant had pointed ears sticking out beneath the pink hat."Thanks for coming, Kaimi." She said, sounding genuinely grateful. "Joshua and Vinny are in the living room." She paused, and realized she hadn't invited Kaimi inside.
"Oh, come in." She said, with a bright smile. "I'll give you a tour." Surprisingly, for such a large house the tour was relatively quick. Thali didn't show her the upstairs. "Upstairs are the boys' rooms." She explained. "More than a little messy." She showed Kaimi where the bathroom was on the first floor, where the kitchen was (in case Kaimi got hungry), and to the backyard. "The boys usually like to have someone to play with--" She said, "I think you know Josh."

It all seemed like a lot to take in, but Kaimi felt a rush of sympathy for Thali who seemed to have a lot on her plate. Two boys plus a baby! Kaimi only had the one sister and she knew that she and Mara made things more than hectic for Naomi. She smiled and nodded through the tour and nodded again when Thali mentioned Josh. Of course, she had no idea the sweet little toddler she'd met had grown up.
"I know Josh, he's a sweetie." She said with a smile. "You look wiped out."

"Twins." Thali said with a shrug, pointing to her husband, who looked equally tired. She nodded at Kaimi, "I'll be upstairs if you need me." She headed up the stairs, muttering about getting some sleep.
Ben merely smiled at Kaimi, and called the boys out from the living room. "Josh, Vinny! Kaimi's here."
Josh was the first to walk into the hall. "Kaimi?" He said with surprise. "You got shorter!"

"Josh!" Kaimi grinned at him. "I've always been short. You just got taller!" She said approvingly. "And this is your brother Vinny?" She smiled at Vinny as well, then shot Thali a reassuring smile. "Don't worry, we'll be fine. You and your husband get some rest."

Thali merely nodded, and continued up the stairs. She needed the sleep. Two active boys and a set of newborn twins.. she hadn't been prepared for this.
Josh smiled at Kaimi and nodded. "My little brother." He said proudly. 'Little' was a bad word to describe Vincent with. He was taller than Joshua. "Are you feeling better?" He asked.

"Yeah, I'm feeling better." Which was both true and untrue. Overall she was returning to her normal, bouyant self. But she still felt like a shadow lurked over her and it was bothersome. Kaimi didn't like feeling afraid and sad. So she tried to pretend she didn't. She grinned at both Vincent and Josh. "So, boys, your parents are going to get some rest and I'm going to keep you company for awhile. What would you like to do?"

Joshua gave Kaimi a look like he didn't quite believe her. And he didn't, but he wouldn't say anything. "I'm glad you're feeling better." Was what he said aloud. "I've missed you." Then he paused in thought. "Do you want to play a game?"
Vinny nodded, "Want to play pretend?" The boys seemed to agree when it came to that. "You can be a princess, or anything you want!"

"Sure! We can play pretend." Kaimi thought for a moment. "If I'm a princess, does that mean you'll have to defeat a big ol' dragon to save me, or does that mean I get to save you?" She felt a quick pang of longing for Bishop. She hadn't seen her best friend in ages... ever since Kaimi had grown and Bishop hadn't things had sort of hit a decline.

Joshua smiled at Kaimi. "Either!" He said cheerfully. "Whichever you like best." After all, Kaimi was their guest. The boys were more than willing to let her pick the game. "I picked last time, we were pirates. This time you get to pick." You'd think from the way he said it, it was a special privelege. And it was.

"Hmmm..." Kaimi had to think about this for a minute. "Well, I guess it depends. Are we playing outside, or in the living room, or what?" As far as she was concerned determining what to play depended a lot on where you were playing it.

Josh and Vinny exchanged looks. "We're not allowed outside without our parents." The older boy told her, shaking his head. "Mom's a little.." He was about to say paranoid, but then he would have to explain that she was also the greatest mom on Gaia, and all that stuff; and it seemed like it would be a hassle.
"She likes to know where we are." Vinny supplied, giving Kaimi a smile. "So the living room would be best."

Kaimi didn't let on her suprise that the boys werent allowed outside on their own. But she did wonder if maybe there was something looming over this household too. Something that would grab little boys. Sadly, she knew that people who came and snatched other people didn't have to wait until you were outside to do it. "The living room it is, then!" She smiled at the two boys. "Why don't I be the princess and you two can practice your rescuing skills?''

"Sure," Joshua said with a nod. He was always happy to rescue someone. "I'll be a knight."
His younger brother frowned at him. "That's not how it goes." Vinny corrected him. "You're supposed to be the prince. I'm the knight." Knights had all the fun. He couldn't really blame Josh for wanting to be a knight--it simply wasn't done.
"Mom says we're both princes." Josh got the final word. He always did.

Kaimi smiled. "Why don't you both be princes disguised as knights? You know, so the bad guy doesn't recognize you while you're trying to vanquish him?" She peered around the living room and took a light throw from the couch, draping it over her shoulders like a cape and looking for somewhere slightly elevated to be her princess-tower.
