It seems like there's been an ever-increasing number of fans outside Japan over the past few years, so here's where you guys can post/comment on things about J-Rock written outside Japan, like books, newspaper articles, etc. If you're confused, you'll understand here in a minute. First off... the first US J-Rock convention is being held in Santa Clara, CA, next month. Check it out! http://www.j-rock.info/index.htmlWish I lived in CA... if anyone's gonna go to that, I'd love to hear about it afterwards. ^-^ Here's an article I thought was pretty interesting (and I plan to buy the book it mentions, by the way)- http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/gate/archive/2005/09/08/apop.DTL Oh, and I randomly find CDs at Suncoast sometimes... but all I've seen so far is L'Arc~en~Ciel, Nami Tamaki and TM Revolution.

So far the closest I've seen is Utada's American CD and a sountrack to X/1999, makes me cry inside. But I think the article is right, Jrock's becoming a trend in America and it's spreading pretty rapidly. Not a bad thing, since I think it's so much better than American rock bands.

Utada's american release cd...ugh 3
But anyways, I am quite happy that Suncoast is finally starting to carry some of Tofu record's domestic releases, around a year ago it was really hard to find their stuff. Just recently they released Asian Kung-Fu Generation's "Sol-fa", in case anyone is interested. ^^; They've also released a Polysics cd, which I have yet to see. Also, I remember seeing The Pillow's newest cd at Suncoast, but i'm not sure what company has released it.

Yeah...I don't really enjoy that album...it's too American-like. I prefer her Japanese songs.

I'm thinking that if Japanese people want to sell their music in America, then they need to sing in Japanese!! I don't care how good their English is. They became popular in their own country in Japanese and they should continue to do the same.

It continues Japan having some sort of culture going on as well....is what I think. Plus it gets more people interested in their language an culture therefore Japanese will start liking their backgrounds more and then that leads to more love making thus bringing more youth to Japan again, which is good because the OLD people out number the young people right now.

Exactly. If they start singing in English, I am going to consider every band/singer a sell out. I'm sorry, but that's exactly what they would be doing. Looks and style are comprimisable, but your own language? Um, no. Like sure some English. Just not like having the entire CD being in English and stuff. I hope that makes sense.

True, very true. But in Utada's situation you can't blame her, she was born and raised in the US, Japanese is her second language.

Well, like yeah I guess I understand that. So, she'd be like the only exception. No one else has an excuse. Therefore I expect CDs in Japanese... or mostly Japanese anyways. <-- Only comprimise.

I envy you guys, at least you get some Japanese music there. England is useless! You have to pay extra money for overseas shipping because it's pretty much impossible to get anything. At least, where i'm from it is and you even get a JRock convention now! D:

Alright, so I heard rumors that Diru's "Withering to Death" is supposed to be released here. Anyone else heard that?
Also heard that Diru's thinking about doing some concerts here too. >w<

I'll let you know once I can check it out myself.VampireShinigami Alright, so I heard rumors that Diru's "Withering to Death" is supposed to be released here. Anyone else heard that? It would be great to be able to BUY their CDs here... but I'm too afraid of the concert because my parents would KILL me if they knew I listened to Dir en grey, much less let me to to the concert. Then the jealousy would make me... well... wither to death. (bad joke XD)

If you guys didn't already know, AOL Radio has a Japanese station (as well as an anime station). It's called Japanese Pop, but they claim to play "the hottest Japanese artists including the freshest Rock, Pop and Dance songs straight from Japan."
Well, they played GLAY a few minutes ago, so it's cool. They've also played PuffyAmiYumi, Do as Infinity, YeLLOW Generation, Ai Otsuka and a remix of the song "Colors" by DJ Taka from DDR while I've been listening...
EDIT: They've also played stuff from Ayumi Hamasaki, Utada Hikaru, L'Arc~en~Ciel, Asian Kung-Fu Generation, B'z and Gackt.

Someone I know from my voice acting community is restarting her online radio station, Kyoku Japan. It focuses on Japanese music and radio plays that focus on modern and traditional Japanese culture. I haven't personally listened to it myself, but her English dubs of Casshern are excellent (I'm proud to be cast as the narrator for the intro~! :3) and from watching it I know just how excellent her mixing and producing is.
I could ask her when she'll be getting it back up, and post a link once she does :3 (She's recently been holding auditions for all the random voice overs for the sweeper segments.)
