After the horrible month known as February had passed, and after the remainder of her tears had finally dried up, Ebony thought herself stable enough to go back to her life as per usual. This having not included a trip to the lab earlier this week nor the surprise it had garnered, but all in all March was showing more promise than it's predecessor ever had. Thus it was business as usual for the violet haired void of emotions. Today was the opening of a new exhibit at the Durem Museum of Art and she couldn't possibly pass up the chance to see what jewels such an event could grant her. Especially not with the roll she seemed to be on. Might as well go for broke. Course whether she was there to scoop out the place for business purposes or merely for personal means was hard to tell, as it could very well be a little of both.

Standing before a brightly painted piece, Ebony could have been easily mistaken for a museum coordinator as she wasn't dressed in the norm of her many other outings. She looked very much the professional with her long purple strands pulled up into a tight bun wearing a sleek, black dress suit complete with a rarely seen on her long skirt, a slight slit up the right side. One black pump gave off a low clicking sound as it tapped against the marble floor in concentration as grey eyes studied both the painting before her and the pamphlet in her hands. Just then she shifted forward a bit to look at the piece from a slightly different perspective, making the glass bottle strapped to her belt more noticeable although not nearly as noticeable as the vial of swirling black hanging around her neck like some sort of voodoo charm. It was the only two things that stuck out odd from the rest of her ensemble and perhaps labeled her strange to the other visitors.

The museum of Durem. It was an old building, Gothic looking on the outside with fine architecture that was almost as interesting as the exhibits held inside. In fact, as the raevan and businessman walked inside dark eyes examined the swooping arches and intricate masonry. It appealed to the rather Gothic raevan, more so than her guardian's clean cut penthouse, and she was almost gawking with mouth wide open as they queued to get inside - intent on watching the rather ghastly gargoyles that guarded the entrance. Ethan on the other hand was fending off odd glances that people were giving the enthralled frei. Despite this concern of his charge being stared at and made to feel awkward Ethan did seem a glow of contentment; Vyn seemed to really like the look of the museum so far and he hoped she'd enjoy the history lesson he had planned for her inside too.

Her education had started the other day when he'd tested her basic numeracy and literacy. Now he was introducing her to history with this museum. In reviews it was said to be very interesting, with plenty for children to do to keep them intrigued by the information they were being told - interactive displays and things like that. When they reached the payment desk were a bored looking receptionist stated the cost, he happily pulled the money from his wallet and steered is raevan into the hall of the museum.

"Where would you like to go first?" He inquired, waving a hand at a noticeboard mapping out where the different exhibits could be found. Vyn looked at it, thoughtfully considering which of the things she wanted to see first. Some things didn't make much sense to her.. She'd never heard of 'astrology' and had no desire to go to the exhibit all about it. She did however like looking at pictures and so she raised a hand and tapped the place labelled 'art gallery' with one black nail. "Let's go there?"

Ethan nodded in agreement and the pair of them made their way to the art gallery, unknowingly drawn towards the owner of a bottle and fel essence.

Straightening back up and smoothing out her suit, Ebony slowly wandered away from the patterned abstract. A manicured nail lightly tapped the smoke filled vial idly as Ebony eyed the brochure. She wasn't really finding anything of much interest right then, but that might have been because she had just started really. Besides, abstracts weren't really her taste in all honesty. Just like her attitude towards life, Ebony's taste in art was something more along the lines of realism.

So without anymore thought, the young Brit made a beeline towards the other end of the gallery where there was sure to be more fascinating pieces even if not more valuable. Her path would be cut off halfway to her goal though when she'd near the entrance and a pair stepped inside. It caused her to stop, not only because she wanted to avoid crashing into them, yet also because she couldn't help but notice that one of them lacked a lower half.

"Oh! Ello." Greeted the violet haired woman with a soft smile. She hadn't been expecting to run into a Raevan today. Almost as if responding to its close proximity to the dark Frei, Ebony's essence began swirling around more actively inside the glass hanging around her neck.

The duo found the art gallery easily and as they entered Vyn gazed around at the different framed pieces, absorbing the swirls of colour and delicate brush stokes that made up each painting. Instantly she was drawn to an image across the gallery, directly in front of her in her line of vision, that depicted a single rose against a black background. Obviously this painting enthralled her as the subject matter was so similar to her and she drifted towards it, leaving Ethan to wander behind her. It was this beeline'd single focus travelling towards the painting that nearly resulted in Vyn moving straight into another person.. A lady who, apart from some strange accessories, looked rather official looking.

Jumping in to prevent his charge from being scolded for her carelessness Ethan began to apologise but stopped when the violet haired woman smiled softly at them and greeted them. Baffled Ethan examined her again. Smartly dressed in a suit with her hair pinned back into a neat bun, she did indeed look like the museum coordinator that he had originally thought she was. But now he noticed that the chunky jewellery, that he had first thought out of place, was actually a phial full of swirling smoke.

Apparently this lady was another person recruited by the LAB to be a raevan owner. Only her raevan was not yet formed and her soul bottle, hanging from her belt, was still empty. Ethan returned her smile before greeting her back. "Hello. Sorry about Vyn, I believe she had her eye on a painting." He chuckled, hopefully smoothing out why there had nearly been a collision. Nodding at her father's explanation Vyn felt her eyes drawn to the woman's neckline where the phial hung...

The smoke was writhing in an almost entrancing way... Demanding Vyn's attention just as the painting had..

At the older man's response, Ebony turned to look behind her and spotted the painting he spoke of. Grey eyes looked between it and the shadowy Raevan a couple of times before stepping to the side. There was a peculiar resemblance between the two that she couldn't help but notice. "Ah, I see. Beauty begets beauty. My apologizes for getting in the way then. I just wasn't expecting to run into a Raevan today, or here for that matter."

Feeling the eyes of another on her, Ebony looked towards the half torso once more. She couldn't help the slight shiver that ran up her spine as the Raevan stared at her. With eyes like those it was only natural to feel somewhat crept out, but the woman did her best not to let it show or else offend the girl. Instead, she followed her line of sight to the vial around her neck. Raising a brow in interest, "Well would you look at that? I've never seen it so...active. Must mean it likes you." Extending a slender hand to the other guardian, "I'm Ebony Shade. Pleasure to meet you both."

The woman's glances between raevan and the painting made a twitch of a smile raise the corner of Ethan's lips. The woman seemed to notice the similarities, but Ethan was confident that she didn't quite comprehend just how similar Vyn and the subject of the painting were - both delicate roses consumed by shadows. Unless of course she'd met Vyn before her rehoming? But then again, he would've expected Vyn or her to react differently - greeting each other by name as Rivener and Vyn had during their shadowed chance meeting in the park? None the less when she introduced herself extending a hand he shook it warmly responding, "Ethan Blake." After shaking he waved a hand at Vyn, hoping that she would introduce herself on this occasion.. He had done it so often for her in the past.. Perhaps this time she would do it herself..

In fact, the rose frei was quite taken aback by the stranger's compliment. No one had really called her beautiful for a long time and the last time she had been called something along those lines it'd been uttered from the mouth of a drunk who had foul intentions and a drunken head fuelling his words. Almost bashfully Vyn introduced herself, much to her father's delight, turning her face away to hide the light blush on her pale cheeks. "I am Vyn.. Thank you for you're kind words." She pointed to the phial of swirling mist and added, "I like it too.. It's..." She searched for a good word.. "Unique."

Pleased at his adopted daughter's good mood Ethan continued to strike up conversation with the purple haired lady. "Well, as you said, you're not here for raevan spotting. May I ask what you are here for?" He mused, before lightly motioning at the bottle that he knew was used to catch souls that hung at her waist. "Looking for inspiration??"
PostPosted: Fri Mar 13, 2009 3:31 pm

"You're welcome Vyn. And I'm sure if my smoke could speak now it would thank you as well." A pleased smile graced her lips then as she released Ethan's hand. It seemed she was doing much better with interacting with others since her conversation with Isikoro, his words having stuck with her since their slightly awkward truce some time ago. Then again it didn't hurt that something good had come about after such a time of pain for her. So she was in a particularly good mood these days and apparently more able to socialize properly without self sabotage.

"Inspiration?" That confused the young Brit. Did Ethan think she was some sort of artist? She didn't think she looked the type to be such, but who was to say anyone actually looked to be what they did. If they did, everyone would have known what she was and more than likely this pleasant gentleman wouldn't be speaking to her now.

When he pointed a finger towards her waist, Ebony would twist to look, catching the glint of the glass bottle which in turn caused a glint in her own eyes. "Oh! Um...no, not really. At least not that kind of inspiration I'm afraid. I'm actually here scouting for some art pieces." Quickly the woman thought best to add to that a better explanation else he ask more questions. "For some clients. Maybe something for myself if I find anything that catches my fancy. What about you two?"

The shadow frei drifted slightly as the woman cheerfully remarked on how she was sure that her smoke would be thanking Vyn if it could talk. It seemed silly for the strict looking lady, who dressed almost like the older Ethan, to be pretending the smoke had thoughts and feelings.. However, the immature notion did induce a rare smile in the raevan and she murmured something along the lines of, "well, it's a very polite bit of smoke."

She did not understand what Ethan meant by inspiration though and as Ebony's attention slipped back to her adopted father she decided to drift closer to the painting she had spotter earlier - her black eyes absorbing the image. In the light of the exhibition she could just about make out the marks of the brush, tales of how the paint was carefully applied, shadows and highlights precisely added. It was so intricate that Vyn felt she could examine it for the whole day..

Like when she'd first desired concert tickets she pondered if Ethan would buy her the painting? Come to think of it, it could look good in her room. It would give her something to look at at least. But somehow she thought this would be slightly more costly than the tickets..

"Oh? You're a business woman then?" Ethan exclaimed, putting a hand to his chest. "I don't sell paintings, but I am a businessman." He felt himself warming to the woman - she was polite, similar in profession to him and a fellow helper of the LAB.

"I'm beginning Vyn's education... And this place seemed like a good start to history and the like." He informed, crossing his arms and watching Vyn inspect the artwork - chuckling to himself slightly.

Though she was sure Vyn hadn't meant the comment to be funny, Ebony couldn't suppress an amused chuckle. It was silly of her to think of the smoke as a living entity, but it would be one someday and the more she kept reminding herself of that now, perhaps the better. Besides, she was sure the onyx and rose female was still pretty young despite her very adult like features. And children liked to pretend right? She could do that. She did do that on a nearly every day basis.

As the girl floated away, reminded of her initial intent before the lavender haired woman's interruption, Ebony felt a twinge of regret making mention of being there for business as now her guardian seemed much more interested. What were the chances he was a businessman? A single slender brow rose at finally noting his similar attire before mentally kicking herself once more. "More or less..." She began to make her way towards were Vyn had floated off to, yet slowly as she wasn't trying to make seem like she was running away from Ethan. Quite the contrary. "Education huh? That's a really great idea. And great that you're taking it into your own hands. Though it's not like you can really ship her off to school or anything."

She suddenly whipped back around to face the older man and clasped her hands behind her back, "So what other subjects have you explored? Or am I being too presumptuous?"

Pleased that the woman seemed to be impressed by his attempts at educating, Ethan glanced at Vyn who had drifted off and followed the woman in trailing after the wine-red haired raevan.. "Oh, mostly just the basics, reading and writing; she seems to be fairly literate." He assumed this was she had read things like CD covers, advertisements and magazines whilst in Shuura's care.. "Maths on the other hand," he sighed slightly, recalling the difficulty that she had experienced with even simple calculations, "she seems to struggle with. But I'm doing some lessons with her on a regular basis now.. And if that doesn't work, I could always attempt to get her some sort of private tutoring."

Her gaze breaking from the painting Vyn turned around to face the humans who'd followed her. Her father was discussing her education? Her thin brows furrowed as he said something about her not being good at maths. Her self confidence took a knock at that. What did have to tell Ebony for?? Now the pleasant complimentary lady would think she was stupid, and what was the point of being seen as beautiful if she was also thought to be unintelligent? Vyn didn't show this change in mood; keeping her face void of emotion, but the excitement and interesting glitter that had been residing in her eyes before Ethan's careless comment was snuffed out.

"What do you think of this painting then Vyn?" Ethan inquired cheerfully.

"It's nice." She replied rather blandly, turning away from the picture and drifting on to look at another - the prospect of talking to him was certainly not appealing.

She wasn't any sort of mind reader or anything, but she did find it odd how quickly Vyn had lost interest in the painting that she seemed so drawn to only a moment before. Ebony would have thought she'd at least be there for a good while before moving on, but alas this was not the case. Taking a quick look between the painting and the rose Frei, the woman didn't vocalize her questions, yet continued to follow slowly after the girl.

"Well...math and science aren't exactly the easiest things to learn about in this world. Nor are they exactly anyone's idea of fun if you will. Though maybe if you pair it up with things of interest to her, maybe it'll soften the blow?" Course Ebony had no idea what the correct method would be for teaching a Raevan anything, but most of them seemed to have gotten about quite well without much formal schooling. She also wasn't very creative when it came to making lessons fun, her prime example being her father, and he wasn't exactly the type for fun when it came to studies. He always said that the fun was in the learning itself, that knowledge was power. Thus Ebony more or less followed the same ideals when it came to education. "Or you could just break them up like you are now. I wouldn't really know honestly. Maybe you should ask someone with kids."

Ethan contemplated the woman's suggestions. Perhaps hands on learning would be more suitable for the shadow frei? But how to do that with maths? His mind churned over figures and how to physically represent them. The age old classic of using apples as examples sprung to mind; if I have one apple and you give me three, how many apples do I have? But apples surely wouldn't hold Vyn's half hearted approach to learning. Perhaps if he replaced the apples with something that would captivate Vyn. Roses maybe? If that failed, he could, as he had already stated, hire a tutor. Expenses were not his worry.

Vyn's heart lightened slightly at the woman's reassurance that maths and science - what was science? would this horror be released on her at some point? - weren't the easiest things in the world to do. Her rune glowed slightly, as she looked at another painting.. This one was more abstract, with swirling colours bleeding into each other. Quite frankly it looked as though someone had attacked the canvas with a paintbrush and had labelled it art. She frowned slightly at this; it held none of the same beauty as the rose piece.. Perhaps Ebony - who had said she was buying paintings - would be able to explain what was so good about it. She glanced over her shoulder at the conversing pair. "What is this??" She inquired, returning her gaze to the vibrant chaotic mess.

At Vyn's question Ethan also turned to Ebony, pushing his glasses up his nose and watching through his grey eyes. He too did not comprehend the attraction in modern 'art'. His business companions often spent hundreds on pieces such as the one Vyn was asking about.. What exactly was so special about it??
PostPosted: Sun Mar 15, 2009 11:43 am

Another amused smile slipped onto her lips as she watched Ethan grow silent in his contemplation. You could almost see the gears turning about in that silver head of his. Given his career choice, it was fair to assume the older man wasn't one to back down from a challenge so easily or even at all. This attributed more to her smile more than anything else because it reminded her of her father. A fond memory, yet not very welcomed at the time, thus Ebony was very grateful when Vyn spoke up to distract her.

Straightening up and becoming quite professional in demeanor, Ebony replied easily enough. "This is what we call abstract art, where the piece has no particular form or even a set direction in which the artist is trying to move in. Simply put, it's a portrayal or snap shot of the artist's feelings at the time. That's one reason they are more sought after these days, not just because it's the hip modern thing to do, but because they are easier to relate to for most." She gave a smug look towards the two, "Or as I like to think, it tends not to hurt their heads as much trying to find meaning in it. But that could just be me being bias. I'm not as interested in abstracts, although the dynamic use of brush strokes is nice. How about you two? Which ones do you prefer?"

Abstract art? Vyn pondered what the woman had explained. A snapshot of the artists emotions.. Her pitch eyes took in what Ebony had described as 'dynamic brush strokes'. To her it seemed as though the artist had just slashed with the brush.. Was that dynamic? Although, she supposed that she might be able to see some of the artist's emotional intentions. The angry stabs of colour, the swiping blows of red and orange. Furious colours, she mused. But at the same time, at the edges of the canvas there were delicate traces of blues and greens. Memories of a brighter time? Vyn blinked, surprised that she was seeing all of this in what she had originally passed off to be uninteresting. Perhaps what Ebony had said was true, abstracts were easier to interpret than traditional pieces...

However, the beautiful melancholy rose in the darkness still captivated her thoughts and she replied to the woman's question, stating that she preferred the rose. "I think I want it." She stated quietly, resulting in a curious look from Ethan. "I would quite like to have it in my room." She mumbled, resulting in an even more curious look from Ethan. One brow raised, a bemused grin on his lips.

"As much as I would love to buy you it. I can't quite stretch my money that far... Art is normally very expensive." He winced at the dejected look that formed on the rose frei's face. "I could buy you a print. Not quite as good as the original, but it'll look nearly exactly the same."
