Comhnall whimpered quietly as he slunk through the forest, his wary eyes darting left and right for any unknown danger. His delicate pink nose twitched lightly as he scented the air, which was thick with the smell of leafy greens. His eyes, which were as blue and pale as ice, were glazed with fear.

But there was nothing for him to be afraid of, for he was in the Neutral lands, in an area of peace. The forest itself was serene and the birds chirped about merrily as the common squirrel darted here and there. The branches overhead swayed with the heavy fruit they bore and a few of the delicious treats thunked to the ground, which caused Comhnall to jump in fright. When he realized it was a mere fruit, he nosed it curiously before grasping it in his mouth, to take it with him in his purposeless travel.

The apple he held had a small bruise but was easily ignored as the fruit was fresh and sweet enough as it was. He munched on it happily, feeling a little braver to know such a delicious thing was in the forest with him. His pink paws left no prints in the damp earth, which was wet with the recent rain, and he left the chunks of apple he couldn't eat near a tree where he was sure the birds would find it, to eat it and plant some more trees, as was their niche in life.

He yawned, content with his recent meal, and padded, almost skipped, to a clump of ferns to curl up and rest. The sun was still high in the sky, although it was hard to tell in the shadows up in the forest, but Comhnall paid no mind. Today seemed to be a good day, where he had met no company, for he hated nothing more than to be taunted about the color of his pelt as he found he was often too frightened to give a coherent response, which often led to more taunting.

He gave a soft flick of his ears. The thoughts alone seemed to be as bad as the real thing. Ignoring them for the moment, he curled his tail over his nose and drifted off into slumber.

User Image Nani let out a soft yawn as she roused from her nap. Shadow had run off somewhere on her, simply saying he'd 'be back later', so Nani had the afternoon to herself. And so far she'd spent it napping out in the sun. How she loved the sun and the way it heated up her fur... It was positively delightful. Stretching her body out so she heard her spine give a little 'pop', she stood straight, shaking her fur so that the silky white danced in ripples in the sunlight. Despite how long her fur had been getting, Nani didn't bother do anything about it. She was quite content with it, actually. It was funner to groom this way.

Nani looked up at the tree she'd been resting under, and smiled with a happy sigh. The tree that had saved her life. Where she had first met Shadow. It was her sanctuary, her home away from home. Bumping her head against the tree, she silently thanked it for always being there for her. With a little giggle, the white and pink helix hopped off, now in search of a drink. She was thirsty from all that sleeping after all.

Nani frolicked along side the riverbend, hopping up onto a rock and gently dipping her tail in, a shiver going up her spine. How delightful! It was so chilly, perfect for a warm day like this. She dipped her muzzle in, taking a sip of the icy cool liquid, when a scent caught her nose. It was... Different. Something she wasn't accustomed to. Nani gently lifted her head, and her ears perked curiously. Was there another helix nearby? Nani had memorized her sudo families' scents, along with other scents she had come upon, and this one wasn't one of any of them. Nani hopped off of the rock and back onto the soft earth, quirking her head as she followed the scent.

Nani passed the apple tree that hung high above her head, and she looked up at it in awe. The apple tree always did amaze her. How it grew so high, she'd never know, but she could swear it was the biggest apple tree ever. She noticed the chunks of apple that little birds were pecking at, and blinked. Someone had left snacks for the birdies, huh? Shaking her head, she continued following the scent. No time to be distracted now. She sniffed and wandered about until she came upon a miniature fern forest. As she looked into the great mass of leaves, something blazingly pink caught her eye. Ears folding back, she carefully crept up to the figure...

His fur was beautiful, and well-groomed. She gasped a little at how pretty he was, and carefully moved around him. He didn't give off a dangerous scent, but then again it was hard to tell when one was sleeping. Being the curious teen she was, she sniffed him for a moment or two, her nose drifting towards his mouth, where she sniffed the scent of apple. He was the one who'd given the wee birds the apple chunks! She smiled. Even though she'd usually be running to the hills screaming for Shadow to come rescue her by now, she almost felt safe around this pink beauty. She was surprised he hadn't woken up yet, though. Maybe he'd bumped is head or something?

"Hello, mister? Are you alright? Can you hear me?" she asked softly, gently bumping him with her nose in the side. She knew better than this, for if this guy was dangerous he could kill her the moment he became conscious, but she felt like she could be safe with this guy. "Mister? Please wake up. I won't hurt you...." she mumbled, taking a few steps back and quirking her head, ears twitching.

When Comhnall first felt the female, he could only freeze in response. His body tensed, but he pretended to still be asleep, waiting for the perfect moment to dart away. At least, until he heard the female's last words.

Of course, many other had said those same words, to lure him out and then rain down the beatings, but her voice was so sweet and kind, and deep inside, he longed for some company. So, opening his lids shyly, he took her in with his eyes, and was surprised that she had pinks on her, as well.

"Hello." he mumbled quickly, quietly. It had been a while since he had a decent conversation with another, and he was still scared of her, even with her young age, and clouds of fear seem to form around him, which could be easily scented by another helix close by. Such as her. He cringed. Since she knew, as most did, would she see him as vulnerable (which he was) and start attacking him, too?

Nani smiled brightly. "T-thank goodness you're alright! I was starting to wonder if you'd bumped you head or something..." her words faded off at the sudde scent of fear, however, and she became shakey herself. Fear, to her, was the same as the scent of anger, and rage, and she began trembling a little, wondering if it was really alright to have woken up the pink helix.

"I-I'm sorry, mister.... D-do you want me to leave...? I just... Ah.... Wanted to make sure you were safe...." Nani took some worrisome steps back, ears folded flat on her head as she tried to get her scents straight. She had never had the best sense of smell, unlike the other helixs. It was probably because she couldn't stand hunting, so she didn't really learn the difference between an angry prey or a panicked prey. Or predators for that manner. She wondered if she should call fo Shadow, but alas, this was her doing in the first place, and she didn't want Shadow to be in danger.

So, she did the only thing she knew that worked on other helixes that might just save her rear, and fell over, rolling onto her back and giving the pink helix her throat, showing him she was submissive and meant no harm. It had worked with that bizarrely coloured helix before, it should work with this guy, right?

....Right?

"I-I mean you no h-h-harm, sir..... Please, d-don't hurt me...." she blubbered out, prooving who was more of a coward between the two of them.

Comhnall could only stare with widened eyes as the female spoke. He was sitting with his front legs tense, his ears flattened, his tail curled between his legs as they always were, and his body trembling with fear. The words the female was speaking didn't even register right. All he heard was one word, repeated over and over again. Worthless.

He cringed every time she started a new sentence, and he had to dig his claws through the grass to keep from whimpering pitifully. "I'm sorry!" he yelled suddenly. When he noticed her backing away, he lowered himself to the ground, unsure of her plans. "I'm sorry." he cried again in a whimpering tone, quickly rolling so that he was on his back. He shut his eyes closed and turned his face away, cowering before the unknown enemy and trembling all the while.

When a few moments of silence passed and nothing happened, Comhnall managed to dig up enough bravery to poke open an eye. He was surprised to find no one above him and he turned his head slightly to see where the other went. He saw the female close by, on her back as well, and the thought of it in his mind, both of them submitting at once to each other, seemed so hilarious to him that a burst of laughter escaped his lips. He stopped himself quickly when he realized this, and he looked back at her with not just fear in his eyes, but curiousity, too.

Nani lay there quivering, and jumping a good three feet in the air when thr other laughed. She rolled over and stared at him wide eyed. He... He was submitting to her? Really? HER? She wiped at her eyes, before carefully inching towards him, "A-are you okay? I... ahaha.... I'm sorry....." she began giggling, unable to stop, "I've never seen anyone do that before... Is that what I look like when I do that?" he still had that smell, but Nani definitely recognised it now.

It had been fear she was smelling. How silly of her. Remembering how Shadow calmed her when she was skittish, she gently leaned in and licked his cheek, lying her head beside him, "I won't hurt you, don't worry. My name's Nani. It's nice to meet you, umm....?" she looked at him curiously, gently nudging him with her nose as she smled sweetly, "It's okay, I won't hurt you. You can trust me." she mumbled as she stared at him quietly.

Comhnall gave a soft whimper of submission when he saw the female coming closer and he tucked his tail tighter around his stomach. His ears raised when she laughed, and he wondered if she had thought the same of him. "Oh, no, it's I who should be sorry. My apologies if I scared you." he said quickly, hoping not to anger her.

"I... I suppose you do, although your pelt is a different color, and I think you're smaller." he said shyly, uncertain of what she expected his response to be. Her paws were getting ever closer, and he whimpered in confusion when he saw recognition light up her eyes. When she leaned down, close to his face, he turned away and yelped instincitvely when he felt something brush against his fur. He was trembling and was startled to find that nothing hurt and he looked to the side to see the female lying next to him.

"Um... uh... er--" he said, then cut himself off when she spoke. "My name is Comhnall." he said warily, as he wondered if he could really trust her. "Hello, Nani." he said. He made sure he didn't raise his head too high, for he didn't want to give off the message of being more dominant by raising his head higher than hers and he bared his white throat and underbelly, trembling again because of the close contact.

Nani smiled sadly. The poor thing seemed traumatized. He was even submitting to her, and that was pretty big, considering even the puppies around here looked down on her. She moved so her side was pressed against him, and dropped her head even loer than his, pressing her face to the dirt, "It is a pleasure to meet you, Comhnall. Thats a very nice name." she said happily, her tail gently swishing back and forth in a friendly manner.

Had she been like this when Shadow had first met her? Probably pretty close. Ths poor, poor helix, "There is no need to stoop your head, Comhnall, I am lower than everyone in this forest. You are more dominant than I." she giggled, her turquoise eyes gleaming in the sunlight that splashed through the tree tops and down onto them. She spotted her throat, and gently raised her head only to press against the soft white fur, "I won't hurt you, so please relax. I don't ever want to hurt anyone or anything." she mumbled softly, gently licking at the fur on his neck. She'd had to do this before with small wounded animals to gain their trust. If you showed no teeth, they wouldn't be spooked. And then they wouldn't flee at the sight of you. Hence why all the forest animals didn't mind her company.

"Oh, um, thank you." Comhnall replied, a hint of a smile tugging at his lips. "It means 'valor hound' or something like that. It's a fitting name, isn't it?" he said with a hint of sarcasm, laughing nervously. He looked to the sky and fiddled with his paws, too shy to even look at her, and so he hadn't noticed her head lower.

"But it's disrespectful." he said, his brows furrowing with confusion. He had often done all he could to avoid company, and this was the first helix he had met who hadn't spat on him yet in disgust, so he supposed it was a good thing. "And I'm sure you're not. You're rankless for now, aren't you?" he asked. "There's a good chance you'll be better than me, a lowly omega." he muttered shyly. Then, realizing what he had said, he started to speak again. "I-I mean... that is, um... it's possible for one as young as you to have a rank already. That's a good thing, isn't it? Yes. And... and...." He fidgeted nervously. What if she was an omega, like himself? Then he had certainly offended her and he could not find the words to apologize. He was so frantic to find a suitable apology that he did not notice the warm tounge on his neck and he gave a long whine of fear and frustration.
PostPosted: Tue Apr 14, 2009 6:12 pm

Nani blinked at the sound of an upset whine, and pulled back, her tongue poking out from inbetween pearly teeth. She blinked. Had she done something wrong? Pulling her tongue back, she sat back and folded her ears as well, "Are you okay? You're stuttering. Silly..." she giggled at the poor other helix, licking at his face again, tail wagging back and forth.

"I think I'll be an Omega. I hate fighting, and killing. It's so terrible, it gives me the shivers...." she gave a shudder for effect, before her warm eyes returned to the other's face. "And I think it's very fitting for a helix like yourself. No sarcasm, really. My name means... Beauty. Or something along those lines. I never had the chance to ask my parents if that's what it really meant..." a sad note, but she returned to her kind self once more.

"Hey, would you like to take a walk with me? I want to learn more about you... I don't have many friends...." she murmured softly, ears perked hopefully.

Comhnall blinked up stupidly at the female. She called him "silly" but there was no taunting note to her voice and he felt his tail wag. When she licked his face again, he felt brave enough to give her a small, hesitant one in return. It was quick and he doubted she felt anything but he still felt a burst of pride at the action and finally, he rolled back to his paws, curling his tail nervously around his paws. He still kept his nose low, although he did peek up occasionally to glance at the kind female.

He nodded understandingly when she shuddered and sought words in his mind to comfort her. By the time he found any, though, she already had the same soft smile plastered on her snow white muzzle and asked him something he'd never been asked before. He raised his tail hopefully at the word "friends" and nodded. "If you can bear to be seen with one such as me, I'd enjoy that." he said, rising hesitantly to his paws.

Nani giggled, tail wagging cheerfully, "I think you're very handsome. I don't know why you'd say such a thing... So, let's go!" Nani hopped up, and moved to Comhnall's side, so happy, "You know, I don't get to meet new people often. It's nice to meet such a friendly helix such as yourself. I could tell right away you were a kind man, you know? Most boy helixes spook me out half to death! I'm such a coward."

Nani laughed about her lack of confidence as she began walking, stepping out of the brush and along the riverbend, the sunlight darting off of her shiny fur, "So, tell me about yourself, Comhnall. Family? Hobbies? Likes? Dislikes?" she asked, smiling widely.

Comhnall blushed at her compliment but even so, he tried to tell her otherwise. "Thank you, but wouldn't you be ashamed of walking around with a pink male?" he said, lowering his voice instinctively. He realized too late that again, he might have insulted her, for her coat had pink, too, and she could take his message the wrong way. Thankfully, his voice seemed to have been quiet enough for she continued on, another blush forming.

"I'm sure you're not a coward at all." he said, trying to raise her spirits. She didn't seem gloomy at all as he said it, though, and he admired that. "Certainly much braver than me." His tail wagged and his steps were uncoordinated, his nervousness leaking at the very small distance between their bodies. By then, he didn't expect her to harm him, although, as they said, old habits died hard.

He blinked his eyes against the sudden sunlight they met as they stepped out of the bush but they soon adjusted and he was looking out for danger. There seemed to be none. Even so, his head still lowered as they walked along the river's side and he took in the beautiful view, one ear pivoted so that he could show Nani he was listening. He just seemed to have a problem keeping his eyes on whoever spoke.

"My uh... dad, I'm not sure what happened to him." he started nervously. "I left him and haven't heard from him since." He tried to shrug carelessly as he had seen others do but it looked more as if he tripped than anything else. He couldn't think of anything he liked at the moment (except the female that walked by his side, although he wouldn't say that) and a list of dislikes might make him come off as a lazy whiner so he glanced at her, hoping she'd pick up the conversation.
PostPosted: Mon Apr 20, 2009 10:44 am

Nani listened to the other, and frowned a bit. Not much of a talker, her new friend. All the same, he probably had his reasons. And that was why she was here, "I see... That's too bad about your dad. I am sorry for you, really." the pink helix gently wrapped her tail around the male's, a soft smile on her face, "I bet he's doing fine, you know? You'd be surprised who might take you in when you're alone. I mean, take myself for example. My family was killed, and I was taken in by Shadow. Happiest day of my life. I have no doubts that your father is fine."

Nani released the other's tail to hop up on a rock in the river, gently hopping from one rock to the next rock, "So.... I like flowers, and colours, and animals, oh, but not to eat, and Shadow and the gang, and, well, you!" she giggled, letting out a yelp as she nearly slipped into the river, before giggling and hopping to the next rock, "And I don't like hunting, or meanies, or scary people.... Yeah. Some other things to, I just can't think of them. I'm kinda boring, right?" Nani dropped back off of the rocks and onto the earth again, stepping lightly alongside Comhnall, "Hey, do you live nearby, or are you just passing through?" Nani smiled, blinking her bright blue eyes.

Comhnall nodded as she spoke, feeling both comforted and confused by her words. His father... he wasn't sure whether his father's well-being made him happy or disappointed. He would have liked to say happy, but... he didn't want to lie to himself. He blushed when he felt Nani's tail curl around him and looked away at her soft smile, heart thumping. He'd never been with a female long enough to know what they were usually like, but tales of love and friendship and miracles reached his ears occasionally. He wondered if what they were doing could be called love.

"You-you're family was killed?" he gasped, eyes blinking with disbelief. She seemed so happy, practically radiated it. It was hard to believe her words to be true. Until she continued, that was. "Shadow?" he asked, ear twitched. That certainly didn't sound like the name of a female. He could feel his fur bristle with jealously and his ears flattened, even when he tried to reason himself out of his feelings. He didn't know who this Shadow was, anyways. Perhaps they treated themselves as siblings or something. But still, he was a helix and, lowly omega as he was, he still had the ability to feel envy and the desire to protect and keep what he believed was his.

His eyes widened when he realized what he had just thought. Nani, being the first female he'd ever met who was actually interested in him, had brought forth these feelings and he twitched his tail nervously. Luckily, she had hopped onto a rock and he didn't think she noticed his actions, let alone his words. His guess seemed to prove correct, as she continued on without pausing to answer his questions. Another blush decoated his cheeks and his tail waved with delight. They hadn't even known each other for a day and already she told him she liked him. He was forced out of his fantasies when she yelped but she managed to save herself and Comhnall padded closer to her. He was about to try and persuade her to get off the rocks but she spoke again. Thankfully, she hopped off soon enough.

"No, I don't think you're boring at all." he said sheepishly, both frightened and delighted by the sudden close contact as she had stepped close to his side once more. "I'm just passing through." he said, his voice distracted. "I don't really have a home to go to."
