Move: Bide.

Red hued eyes narrowed as she circled around the large male she'd come to care about above all others. Now that her cubs were born and her figure was back to being something to fear, the Queen had decided it was time to train. Even if the Safi were in trouble... even if things were not exactly great for them, Kenna still felt that was no excuse to let herself slip.

She would never understand those lazy bastards that never so much as moved a finger; that never so much as got up from their dens, letting slaves do all the work for them. Shame of them, she thought to herself as she watched Ji circle her in turn, Shame on all of them! Even if they were content with letting the time fly by, she was not. That was why she had managed to convince her mate that a good fight would do them both good. Sparing with each other was bound to make them stronger and prepare them for what was to come.

Whatever that was, of course.

Kenna was in no rush just yet though; she seemed to be waiting for an opening, her lean body making graceful arcs as she examined the male. What was he going to do? What were his intentions? Surely he wouldn't hold back against her; he knew better than that.

First Move: Bide

He knew when he mated her that she was prone to these sorts of things. He supposed it was only a matter of time before she started to take out her frustration on him. She had, after all, been lying about for some time (less than he would have guessed for most normal lionesses, but probably still too long in Kenna's opinion) taking care of their cubs. Hell, he was surprised she hadn't done this sooner, just as an excuse to beat him to death over giving her so many cubs - she'd certainly threatened him enough during the birth. She'd only gotten what she asked for though, how was he supposed to know that their union would bring around a litter of giant proportions? They were such a cute little mass of hellions.

Now he was faced with a dilemma; go against everything his mother had taught him, about females needing to be taken care of, about them needing protection and let her beat the living hell out of him (and oh, he knew she would) or fight her and feed that hunger he knew she was harboring, while possibly losing honor and dignity by losing to a female (at this point, he wasn't entirely sure he could beat his mate). He was warring with his self no doubt, his mind rolling over the choices as he circled her, mirroring her movements. His mother had always taught him to respect females, to protect them, but here Kenna was, expecting him to treat her like an equal and actually fight her, and damn it all if she wouldn't be offended if he didn't.

That aside, if she got offended, Jiryan really didn't want to know what she might do to him. As much as he had grown to love her (and yes, he did, he was much more open to accepting that term than his mate might be, fiery lioness that she was), he knew that he was right to fear her. She wasn't queen of these lands for nothing.

Move: Hit

No move came from him. He was mirroring her moves, actually, circling around her as she did him. Her eyes narrowed a notch, barely noticeable, as her lips pulled back, stretched into a silent snarl. She loved her mate, really she did; she had accepted her own feelings quite some time ago, even if she hadn't really voiced them often. If ever. Had she? She couldn't really recall if she had.

But that was not the point.

The point was that she could see the conflict in his eyes. He was hesitating; warring against what she knew he had been taught as a cub and what he was slowly learning during his stay in the Firekin lands. She growled at him then, launching herself forward with one swift movement of her paws. Her fore paw stretched out to land a hit across his face, "Too slow!" she snapped at him, though not in anger, for this was not a real fight for their lives. They were sparring, "In these lands, when the time comes, you'll have to defend your children against other females, Ji! They're vicious! As vicious as I am!"

There was a tone that could have resembled pleading in her voice... yet not quite. It was hard to tell. In all honesty, the queen was worried for the future. Her cubs, her mate.... and her pride; they were her life. Her cubs though, ranked higher than her pride, and she knew that any rebel that were to find them would kill them on the spot. Hesitation was not an option.

Second Move: Hit

The good thing about mirroring her movements as he had been, about watching her, taking in every little thing that she was doing, was that he was prepared for her when she finally came at him - he had been bracing himself for it the whole time. However, preparing himself didn't stop the sting of her claws (for they did in fact hurt, no matter that this was a sparring match) when she finally made her move.

That aside, it didn't stop the sting of her words either. She knew he was hesitating, and she knew exactly why. It hurt, deeply, to think that she might ever be disappointed in him, but he couldn't help that his different thought processes were at war. Likewise, he had heard that pleading in her voice, no matter how insignificant and slight, because he knew her. She was afraid he would hesitate if a female came near their cubs. He might hesitate now, but in that instance, he would never.

It the matter of seconds it took for her to move in and land her blow across his face, he let out a growl from deep in his throat, teeth clenched and cutting off some of the strength of the sound. He twisted as she came in close to land it, his head flinching back for a moment only before he reached out to land his own answering blow across the side of her jaw, aided by the fact that she was already within striking range. "You're different from other females," he growled, "striking you isn't the same as striking someone after my cubs."

Move: Bide

He'd hit her.

He'd hit her. He'd actually hit her, he'd HIT her.

The words repeated in her skull like a mental mantra, furious he'd managed to land a blow on her, and proud he had done so, both at the same time. On one hand, that had been a horrible slip on her part, and had this been a real fight, he could have dealt much more damage than just the trails of blazing hot pain she could feel against her face. On the other hand... he had HIT her. The words still echoed within her.

The small droplets of blood streamed down her mug and towards her lips, where her tongue darted out to lick them away. She did not answer his words, but rather, narrowed his eyes and circled him again. She would not make the same mistake again, of that she was sure. She mouthed her next words silently, urging him on; she wanted to see what he had in him. She'd seen brief glimpses of his fire, but oh, she wanted to see it rage.

The lioness opened her mouth, moving it, but no sound came out, letting him practically read the silent words she mouthed.

Hit me with your best shot.

She was willing to wait, just for a chance to see his fire. She knew he had one... she knew his fire was bigger than any of those lazy bums that slept in those god damned caves all day. Shame on them!

Third Move: Bide

His face was still flaring with the pain of her blow, the blood from the slash dribbling lightly across his fur and down his mug, though it was probably hard to even see against his crimson coat. He saw her move back, tracking her with those bright green eyes, his own stance wary as he settled down to watch her again, preparing for whatever onslaught she threw at him next.

Only, it didn't come.

His brows furrowed, his gaze narrowing on her as he tried to judge her movements. Was she mad that he had struck her? Everything about her stance seemed different. She had gone from a fighting stance to something much, much more, albeit the fact that they were still sparring. Then he realized, all too quickly, what had happened. He had fed that beast, that fire that could consume her, that passion that he was so attracted to in her, despite the fact that it might one day consume them both if she wasn't careful. She might have been at her most dangerous at that moment, but damn it all if it didn't make her beautiful. Wild and beautiful.

Her silent words weren't lost to him, but he simply hunched down, circling her again, his mouth cocked lightly into a smirk even as he tasted the metallic sting of his own blood. He wasn't going to give in to her taunts that easily - it'd take a fool to go rushing in on her when she was this blood thirsty.

Move: Bide

She was content to wait for now. At least, that's what she told herself. The Queen had to keep herself from launching herself forward to meet him, but oh, she was well trained, and merely waited it out, her tongue darting out once more to lick her wounds as they circled each other.

She wanted HIM to come at her. Which meant she had to be patient and wait. She knew she'd be plentifully rewarded if she was patient; patience was a virtue after all. One that Kenna had come to embrace during her stay as the Safi Queen... she could not launch herself blindly into battle. There were times were it paid to wait. Seeing his fire blaze would be enough a reward. She was sure of it.

As he smirked, the queen mirrored his expression, her red blood eyes narrowed, blazing even if she was waiting, holding herself off.

Any time now, she thought to herself. Any time.

Fourth Move: Hit

She wasn't going to strike this time, he could see that. She was going to force it out of him, force him to take the initiative. Only he didn't know if he could muster up the will to strike her in anything but defense, he really didn't. She wasn't just some lioness, she was his mate, as unlikely as that seemed and as unlikely a pair as they seemed at first (for any number of reasons). He was supposed to protect her, not attack her. Hadn't Kenna proven time and time again that she didn't need his protection, though? In the desert, when she was down on her luck, was one thing but now that she had his support she was.. invincible.

His smirk curled lightly into a sneer as he realized that he actually wasn't that important to her protection in most instances. He was more a final threat, but she was perfectly capable of taking care of herself. What she said was right, as well. He had to learn, get over this misconception of females being weak. The females here could gut him before he noticed, take, maim or kill his cubs. The devilish gleam in his own eyes turned into one of fire, a fire that burned through his veins as he let the images slide through his mind. In a way, he was forcing himself to attack her, but he knew she would wear him down if he didn't. This wasn't just a sparring match, but a lesson he had to learn.

With a light growl in his throat and narrowed eyes, his circling stance abruptly halted and he bolted forward to intercept her, paw connecting with her head again in a cuff.

Move: Hit

It was worth the wait, she decided. Well worth the wait.

The fire in his eyes matched that of any Firekin she'd seen before; few of them even dared to hold her gaze (then again, it had a lot to do with her rank and her ancestry, though Kenna liked to think it also had a lot to do with HER attitude). Ji however, managed to lock his gaze with hers as he charged forward, making the Queen grin eerily, even as his paw connected with the previously damaged side of her face.

This time though, she had been expecting him; she hadn't rushed in, and though she felt the metallic taste of blood his her tongue as it dribbled down her mug, she didn't particularly seem to care, "Got you," she mouthed simple, dryly as she took the moment to tense back and then jump forward. The distance between them was just so and the fact he'd just struck her allowed her to use her forelegs to push on his chest, sending them flying back into a pinning position. Him on the ground and her on top of him, her maw seeking out his neck amongst the fluff of his mane.

This battle was hers.

Fifth Move: Miss

He thought for a moment that he might take the advantage, actually excel in this, when he saw those two mouthed words on his mate's lips. s**t.

It happened in a whirl, and he realized instantly that anyone was stupid to underestimate Kenna. She had him thrown up and over, thrown down into the ground so hard that it jarred his head and sent his vision into blackness. He was aware of her weight on him in an instant, though with his blurry, dark sight all he could do was swat at her uselessly - missing entirely. Then he felt jaws near his throat, buried into the thickness of his white mane. He drew a deep breath, eyes shutting both against the attack and because of his throbbing head.

"You win," he stated, calmly, much calmer than he felt. Kenna could actually end him right at that moment, he knew, spar match or not. It wasn't a comfortable feeling.

"You win."

Her jaws had begun to part from his neck even before the words reached her ears. She didn't need him to tell her she'd won to know it after all. Slowly, she lowered herself from his for, so he could roll over and hide his stomach from view, "That was fun," she murmured, feeling like she'd rid of all the unnecessary energy that had been plaguing her for days.

Sparring was just so ******** therapeutic. At the end of the day, it didn't matter if she won, or he won. Because at the end of the day... they were together in this, and neither of them really lost against each other. Her head turned and lowered to settle over his neck, her tongue darting out to lick the wounds she'd inflicted on him, and for a moment, she felt her condition twitch; she needed to groom him now. Oh god she'd hit him only on ONE side of his head. BAWWWWWWWWWWWwwwwww~~

Her thoughts weren't really visible on the outside, aside from a mild twitch of her eye as she cleaned his face in a lovingly matter (because yes, she could be loving, and no, she didn't need to VOICE it to show him she loved him - actions were so much stronger than words anyhow), "We have to do this more often."
PostPosted: Tue Mar 10, 2009 4:57 pm

He let out a small chuckle at her declaration, rolling over slowly to hide his stomach, and laying his head on his paws - mostly to nurse it from being thrown so hard into the ground. That had hurt worse than the blow from her paw that he'd taken right to his face.

He was still blinking away the black specs in his eyes when he felt her tongue on him, his eyes rolling to look at her the best they could where she was positioned. He smiled lightly, contenting himself with laying still. He'd noticed her need to keep things clean, by all means, and he had no doubt she'd roughed and dirtied him up with this little 'game'. He'd be a good boy and sit still until she was content with his appearance - besides, it did feel quite nice. Then he'd get to nursing her wounds, which he'd feel terrible about until they healed no doubt. At least it meant he got to take care of her in some sick, twisted kind of way.

"Sure thing," he said slowly, letting his eyes lull a bit from the affectionate grooming, despite the stinging her tongue provided nearer to the wounds themselves, "just don't throw me down so hard next time." Then he simply shut his eyes and submitted to the process, comfortable, despite the bangs and forming bruises.
