The Hiyen Mountain Pass

The Hiyen Mountains spread far and wide throughout a large section of eastern Elore. Viewable from afar, and beautiful beyond description, these mountains have a history of chaos and remain shrouded mysteries. Stories tell of groups of explorers who have wound up dead or lost in the mountain's treacherous cliffs. The stories also tell of some explorers surviving and sometimes coming back from their hike physically unharmed... but rendered useless. They live out the remainder of their lives mumbling endlessly like brain dead chimps. They say that no one recovers from their endeavors through the pass... But those are only stories...
As far as anyone knows, the mountains are uninhabited, and the story's never tell of the hikers encountering any trouble with monsters or other races. Besides the average bird, fish, or deer, this land is known to be very quiet and almost "Lifeless"
The entrance to the Pass, being the part closest to the City, is occupied by an assortment of mining shafts. The mines reserve themselves to mine only the finest of diamonds and other valuable materials from deep within the mountains. The diamonds are then moved to secret locations with privitized movement. Hired workers that use the portal's secluded spout, dump the required materials then go on with their lives. Unfortunately the workers have to be secluded and restricted from communication with the outside world to avoid any sort of slip-up. the materials dumped into the portal's secret vein are then exchanged to different kingdoms.
