It had been a full week since the white parakeet brothers that Bhekizitha and his brother had left to return to the forest, but not before they had showed the two cheetahs to an abandoned nest with a pair of eggs inside. The brothers had taken the nest back to their den and now worked together so that the eggs were always being watched.
It was Bhek's turn to watch the eggs and though it was a little bit boring, he was determined to do his duty. The cheetah sighed and rolled on to his back, staring up at the ceiling of their rocky den when his ears suddenly heard a faint crack. Followed by another. Then another. His jade eyes snapped over to the eggs and widened as he noticed spider cracks spread over one egg than the next. He sprang to his feet, and darted out of the den. "SUMMY!! It's time!!!" The adolsent cheetah cried out and hoped that his brother was in hearing range.

Sumati was just talking with another cheetah he had randomly ran into on his way back to the den. They talked for a few minuets and were then on their way. Sumati was carrying a mouse he had caught in the jungle as a treat for his brother. He had already eaten another one. These were fast little buggers and damn tasty too.
His pace sped up when he heard Bhek yell. What was going on? He realized his brother was calling his name and darted towards the then.
"It's time?" A grin appeared on his face once he reached Bhek. "Well, let's go see them!" He entered the den and stared at the hatching eggs curiously.

Bhek grinned and followed his brother back into the cave. "Yeah it's time." He stated as he lay down next to the cracking eggs. He was excited to see what the emerging chicks would look like and if they'd be boys or girls. "I'm going to watch this egg and you watch that one." The cheetah added as he nodded to the egg closest to him. It was the smaller egg, but Bhekizitha didn't care. All he wanted was it to hatch, which it was continuing to do.

"Okay." Sumati settled to watch his egg hatch. It was quite the struggle, it seemed. After a few moments Sumati asked is brother "Do you think we should help them?" As he said that he reached with a paw and gently moved away a piece of the shell that had already been broken and was in the way of the chick inside. He could see something whitish. "I can see mine!" He didn't notice he was whispering because he was so excited.

"Really?" Bhekizitha asked in equal excitement before he leaned over to peer at his brother's egg then back to his own. That was when a large piece of eggshell fell and a fluffy brown head emerged. Red eyes stared up at the cheetah before the young bird cooed. "Mamma!"

Sumati almost laughed out loud when Bhek's chick called him 'mama'. He held it in though, so he wouldn't scare the birds with his loud voice, but still had a huge grin on his face.
His smile disappeared somewhat when his chick called him the same. It was white and gold, with red eyes just like it's sibling. Sumati held the tiny thing in his paws and nuzzled it gently. "They are so cute!"

Bhekizitha blushed through his fur as the chick called him mama. "No, no. I'm Bhek. Can you say Bhek?" He asked, laying down to be eye level wtih the chick. The cheetah gave his brother's chick a glance, his smile widening before he turned back to tghe hatchling before him.
"Bhed! Bhed, Bhed, Bhed!" The chick cooed, wobbling forward to nuzzle the cheetah's leg. A curious noise from its stomach made the fluffly thing squeak and then let out a wail, looking up to its caretaker.
The chick's sudden wail made Bhek jump slightly. "Summy, I think mine's hungry...." Now they needed some worms or something.... Great.

"Sum, c'mon, it's not that hard. Just Sum, Summy." Sumati tried to teach his bird his name. "Su!" It squeaked for the third time. "I suppose that's good enough for now." He gave up and instead just played with the hatchling. It flapped it's tiny wings and chirped sweetly.
He looked at Bhek with confusion."You mean...we have to find worms?" Sumati shuddered, not liking the idea. Not at all. "Where?"

"I dunno.... The dirt?" Bhekizitha suggested with a frown. "Worms come up when it rains so.... So all we need to do is somehow get a bunch of water to dump on the ground!" The cheetah exclaimed excitedly. "Now how do we do that?"

"Riiight..." He agreed with his brother about the rain and the worms, but dumping water on the ground? "Um, Bhek, can't we just search somewhere close to water? Like around the river?" He suggested, arching a brow.

"Oh..... Yeah, that'd probably be smart." Bhekizitha blushed, flicking his tail around. "I'm just so excited." The cheetah nuzzled Kitra softly and very, very gently, lifted the chick and put her on top of his head. "Hold on tight now!" He ordered softly before carefully starting toward the river. "Come on Summi!"

"Yeah, I figured that much." Sumati said with a smile, amused by the excitement of his brother. To tell the truth he was just as excited about the two little birds as Bhek. "Right behind you, brother." He replied, lowering his head and the chick hopped on. "Hold on tight now, little one."
He followed his brother to the river and once they were there he asked "Where do you think we should dig first?" While he was talking he let his bird on the ground and it started hopping around, already searching for a snack.

Bhek frowned and peered about the shore of the lake, trying to figure out which area would be best. He lowered his head and let Kitra climb to the ground before he moved over to a dirt covered spot and began to dig, his canine like paws easily moving the dirt. "Here will probably work!" The cheetah called to his brother, the hole he had started already growing pretty rapidly. Ah! Sucess! The cheetah's green eyes had spotted a wiggling line of pink and he quickly bent his head and grabbed it up in his mouth. Trying to ignore the texture of the moving worm, he hurried back over to Kitra and again lowered his head, the chick plucking the morsel from his mouth. "How many worms do you think we need to find?"

Sumati hurried over to where his brother had begun digging and made the hole even bigger. He picked up a worm, almost gagging in the process, and gave it to Khepri. "I don't know. I guess until they don't want any more?" He said with uncertainty. If only they could ask another bird. He sighed and gave Khepri another worm. "I think I'll give her a couple more and that will be it. They are too tiny to fit anymore in their bellies, don't you think?" He wasn't at all sure that was right.

"I'm sure they'll tell us if they're still hungry." The cheetah said before he ran over to collect a few more worms for Kitra. It didn't take long before the small chick was having trouble keeping her eyes open. Bhekizitha smiled and gently picked her up, setting her up on his neck. "Come on, let's get them home so they can get some sleep."
