What do you think about historical combat re-enactment?
I'd love to have a go at swinging a sword & shield around!
I prefer more realistic competition combat to the kind of theatricalities involved in these public displays.
I don't really fancy risking catching a sword in the face for entertainment.
Sword & shield?! I stab them in the back when no-one's looking!

Hey there folks, I've just started training in historical combat re-enactment & was wondering if we have any other members here that do something similar or are interested in doing so...

Here's a link to the website of the course I'm doing: Warrior Spirit

So how's the training exactly? Do you have to go to bed at 6:00 PM and get up at 2:00 in the AM to start going at it? Is it arduous work? Do you have to train all day non-stop except for eating?

I did visit the page but it's not exactly pretty, he-he. sweatdrop

Nah man, just a regular 2 hours on friday evening every week - we're not getting paid for this!
But it's great fun, a lot of what we're doing is quite theatrical - last week we practiced 'dying' & there seemed to be a lot of folks either hamming it up too much, or barely making a grunt biggrin

Oh! Ok, you had me worried there for a sec, he-he. mrgreen
And here I thought you got paid for doing that! Silly me, eh?
Hmm, so even dying is an art in its own right, huh? I suppose most theatrical actors can say that, right?
