Now I do not have kids of my own but when I saw this lady I felt that it was poor parenting and just wanted to know what real parents thought.I went to the grocery store and so I am down the cleaner where I see a lady with two children in her basket, one about three and I figure the other four.Either way, they were little. She is grabing counter top sprays, opening them to sniff the scent then hands each chemical based spray to her children to sniff and tell her if it smells good enough to buy. These children shove their WHOLE noses in it and inhale deeply then shake their heads no.She puts it back on the shelf grabs another, and repeats passing it to both of her little children to inhale.MULTIPLE bottles I see her to do and I think to myself "Oh my gosh, she is encouraging her kids to sniff in chemicals and right here in public!" Now I am not a parent but I do not inhale these sprays like these children do, if I want to smell it I have it a good distance below my nose and a short sniff. One of the first things you learn in high school chemistry class is never to shove your nose into a chemical bottle nad breath in heavily!Tell me parents, is this right or wrong and what could she have possibly be thinking?

I agree that this is poor parenting: My reasons...
1. You shouldn't let small children sniff chemicals that may or may not be harmful there are studies out there that are showing that some of the air sol (sp?) sprays are causing cancer in some people, all not to mention the brain cells that could be affected.
2. I don't want to go to the store and buy *used* air fresheners for my home O_o that why most are sealed???
3. You shouldn't have your 2/3/4 yrs old dictate how YOUR house is going to smell that is giving them too much control of what you as a parent purchase at the store, I honestly dislike the commercial where the child is saying all the food she hates as the mom is shopping in the store.
I don't know if all parent/shoppers are going to agree with my views but thats how i feel.

The chemicals are harmful for the little kids to smell. They could get addicted to it or something.

I don't really think its bad parenting, more uninformed parenting. To counter what Bestmom was saying, maybe the sprays being purchased were for the children's rooms, and she wanted to find one they would like. As for the kids sticking their whole noses in... they're kids, its what they do. Ive seen it many times. They sense things by "absorbing" as much of it as they can, same way as when they hold something they tend to move it all around and stick it in their mouths.

i think if the kids were 3 and 4... it was probably just niave parenting and they thought they were doing the right thing... maybe u should have "nicely" mentioned it to her cause she really might not have known the long-term effects of direct contact to aerosol sprays.

I have a 3 year old son that i allow to help me "choose" items at the grocery store and i have never, nor would i ever, give him cleaners or air freshners to sniff...that is either very poor or very uneducated parenting...
