The perfect day. Not only did he have the area to himself, since Dove had taken off to go find some friends her own size. But it was sunny enough that his dark coat could soak up the heat to warm his body. He lay sprawled in the middle of the grassy field, wings outstretched to make sure the sun could warm every part of him. Quiet, warmth and peace was definitely a good day.
Dove kept pestering him to get out and meet more friendlier individuals, since she didn't start off taking too kindly to Bodhi when he'd met her. Poor goose's feathers were still a bit ruffled about that day. Sure he would get out eventually and meet more people but he just couldn't tear himself away from the peace he'd so longed for before he came to this place. Especially today. He said he'd meet others and he would. Someday. Altair smiled at knowing his feathered friend wouldn't take too kindly to him wiggling his way out of her plan. But that was just further proof of their love hate relationship. So until she came back to squak and honk at him more, he was going to take advantage of this day for as long as he could.

It was a beautiful, beautiful day.
Eirene couldn't remember the last time the weather was so nice. She was so used to chilly mornings and equally as chilly afternoons, which were followed by even chillier nights. But now... With the sun beating on her bare back, she shuffled her pristine wings every few minutes or so to soak up the sun. It was a feeling dearly relished, and the brisk breeze made for prime flying conditions. The mare inhaled and exhaled deeply, her bi-colored eyes shut as she took in the day.
Now that she thought about it, she was in a decent mood. Not a single brooding thought... Until then. She scowled internally at herself for it before trying to quarantine the things that usually plagued her thoughts. Unfortunately, trying not to think about it made her think more about her countless days spent traveling alone with no conversation. She was her own decent company, the mare supposed, but still.
The canopy of the forest was thinning, allowing more sunlight to peek through. Her throat was relatively parched, but she could deal. Eirene wasn't paying attention to much except the way she felt on this pretty day. Without realizing it she walked into the clearing, her eyes lifted towards the sky. A fly would be nice. But so would a nap, and a drink... She chuckled to herself as she thought about it, oblivious to the other presence nearby.

Altair was only faintly aware of another presence. His mind was elsewhere, drifting in and out of day dreams and also drifting in and out of sleep. His ears flicked about as he caught the sound of a laugh and it finally registered in his head that he wasn't alone out here. Oh God please don't let it be Dove. I can't take it. He stretched a wing up lazily and placed it over his head until he got the courage to peek through his feathers. Now he had to laugh at himself when he realized it was just another of his kind.
He watched her for a moment. She seemed...distracted. Her mind elsewhere since she obviously hadn't taken notice of him. Well all the better for him, he could continue his rest in peace for the time being. Though he had nothing against company, as long as that company was quiet.

The rustle of feathers brought Eirene from her daydreaming, and she was quick to scour the field for the sound. Feathers were synonymous with birds, or those blessed... or cursed, with wings. Her bi-colored eyes caught the sight of the large wing in the middle of the clearing, and in an instant her breath caught in her throat and everything stood at a stand till. The wing was too large to belong to a goose or swan. It could only be another of her kind.
The way she was reacting was unreasonable, especially with how moments earlier she had been craving conversation. She found herself chuckling lightly at herself, the laugh faint to her own ears. The figure looked as if he or she did not wish to be bothered as they lay out in the sun... Which dampened the possibility of conversation. It was disappointing, but Eirene found her gaze lingering perhaps too long for comfort. The other fellow's wing looked very... Familiar. Like that of a Canadian Goose.
Shaking her head, she removed her eyes from the other Wind. Ah well, best to continue onward if the other figure wouldn't even acknowledge her presence.

Altair opened one of his eyes to peer at the mare again. She'd finally noticed him. Though even she didn't seem to want to come over. With a sigh he lifted his voice loud enough for her to hear. "Are you going to come over and introduce yourself or are you going to make me be a gentleman and get off my lazy butt to come and do the same to you?" He figured it was a stupid question and heaved himself up off the ground, shaking and fluttering his wings to get the blades of grass off that had clung to him.
As he mosied on over to her he smiled and tossed his mane out of his. "Apologies. I lose my manners right after a nap in the sun." He bowed his head lightly to emphasize the apology. "My name's Altair. And yours might be?"

The sound of a masculine voice penetrated the quiet clearing, and in response Eirene was quick to turn her attention in his direction. At his words Eirene found her ears flattening slightly, unsure of what to make of his sarcasm at first... Until he got up. A smile tugged at the blue hued mare's lips as he made his way over, but she too made an effort to meet him halfway. Her steps were a little more hesitant than his, but she decided it was best to not make it look like she was an anti-social...
Even though well, she was for the most part.
Bi-colored eyes looked the stallion up and down in secret, her gaze lingering over his wings before looking to his eyes. They were a brilliant blue, easy to spot through the mask reminiscent of that of a two-legger. She was curious as to why he wore it, but asking at that moment would be inopportune and quite frankly, rude.
At his bow, Eirene was slightly taken back. Manners? Ha, did she really have that negative of an opinion of her own kind? She mirrored him slowly, bowing her head respectfully. "My name, kind sir, is Eirene." She flicked her bangs out of her line-of-sight with a slight tilt of her head, and with that she shuffled her wings.
"I suppose this is where we make small talk? Like that of the weather or how green the grass is..." She rambled quietly, unsure of how to continue in a social situation. Knowing she was coming off as rather cheesy, she offered an apologetic smile, "I'm sorry, Altair. I'm not the most articulate when it comes to others."

Altair chuckled and waved a wing at her slowly. "No need to apologize for such a thing. Hopefully it will get easier as you spend time with me. If you would like to spend time with me, that's entirely up to you. Come, you can join me in the sun and if I'm too boring we can both take a nap." He laughed and turned to wander his way back over to where he was laying and folded his legs to lay back down.
"Oh and the weather is perfect and the grass is greener than ever, if you were wanting that small talk." He sent a grin her way as his tail flicked casually on the ground. "I honestly don't make much small talk either, which leaves us here with nothing to talk about. Hmm...Well I supposed I could start off by asking how you are on this fine sunny day?" He smiled at her, hoping she would relax as well. He may enjoy his solitude but he wasn't totally against speaking to keep company entertained. The problem was he just never knew what to talk about. She had a point, talk about the weather? The grass and trees? How boring was that?? But he couldn't just let this beautiful mare walk away without getting at least a little conversation out of her.

Spend time... With him? The words were foreign to her ears, and she was unsure of how to respond. She watched him warily as he continued to talk, and even though he was reaching out to her, she felt as if they were almost of the same situation - solitary, yet unable to turn down company when it arrived. The thought made her mouth muscles twitch into a smile, and at the word 'nap' she laughed aloud.
"A nap on a lovely day like this? You must be... Well... Actually..." She trailed off gazing up at the sky. The thought was nice, to be able to soak up the sun in one spot. She looked back at him and hesitantly followed after the stallion, her brows raised as he continued talking. For 'small talk', he was certainly talking a lot, even if it was essentially nothing. The notion however, was amusing, and Eirene couldn't help but contribute to the cause.
"Well, Altair," she addressed him formally, flicking her mane as she looked towards the distance as if she had some higher purpose - a show, of course, for amusement purposes, "I can tell you that I'm just fine and smile your way, as if that would be interesting conversation. Maybe it'd be a better conversation point to address that I'm just a lonely mare trying to find my place in this secular world." Though she tried to remain serious, the blue hued mare couldn't help but break into a grin.
"And what of yourself? Are you just peachy?"

Altair brushed at her bangs with the tip of his wing. "Now how is it possible for such a beautiful mare such as yourself to be lonely. You must have lots of others to call friends, plus those stallions must just be dropping at your hooves when you walk by." He returned the grin and also tossed the hair out of his face. "I certainly am just peachy. It's a beautiful quiet day without my annoying friend bothering me and now I have a charming mare to keep me company, what could be better?" Just to prove his point that he was indeed very relaxed he flopped over onto his side on the grass and stretched out his wings.
"Now why don't you just relax and enjoy this beautiful day with me. Buuut I understand if you have other important things to do. I can't be selfish and keep you here all to myself." He smiled as his bright blue eyes sparkled with the glinting sunlight through his mask.
