This RP session is backdated - it takes place before Chaos breaks Legion loose.

Sosiqui always felt a little blah after Christmas. Once the decorations hade been taken down, the Christmas tree taken out and chopped for the compost heap, and the boxes stowed in the basement... not that they had a whole lot of stuff, considering Sosi had only been in Gaia for a bit less than two years, but it was still sort of depressing.

A good time to write, then. Get her mind off of things while it was quiet.

She slipped into her room and dug through her desk drawers until she found her journal, but... "Where's a pen when you need one?" she groused, shoving a few papers onto the floor. A search yielded a few pencils and a pen empty of ink. Disgruntled, she sat down and begam rummaging under the bed, coming up with the backpack she'd taken to that alternate Gaia with Aeina. "I did have one here, right?"

A few seconds of searching revealed a pen, alright. Sosiqui's forehead wrinkled in thought as she pulled it out. How odd. She rubbed her thumb across the unusual marking on it. Well, whatever. Weird stuff turned up in her life often enough that she wasn't even going to ask anymore.

She got up, collected the journal, and padded back down the hall to the living room, where she sat down on the couch with a contented sigh. Riven was curled up on the other couch, and she could hear the faint bleeps of the PS2 coming from the den. Five, no doubt.

Sosiqui opened the book and began to write...

Carda was sure this time that he had a good idea which direction he should head before he set out. The last time he hadn't bothered checking first and wound up nursing a cold right up through Christmas.

THIS time would be different. Carda stretched out his sense of detection again and felt the exact location of the locus pen he was looking for... He felt the four-pointed star on the pen glow for a brief moment as it responded to his mental probing, like a ping on a radar screen.

Carda hadn't realized exactly how long he'd been walking, but the locus pen was now only a few houses away.

Carda surveyed the house as he approached. A one-story cottage with a two-story tower attached to a back corner. Cute and quaint, to be sure.

As Carda now stood directly in front of the house, he began to feel a bit nervous. How exactly was he going to go about this? He couldn't exactly treat this person like an old friend, especially with the extremely high chance she would have no recollection of him whatsoever.

"Okay, Carda, if you're going to do this, then do it. You didn't walk this far in the cold just to chicken out twenty paces from the door."

Before his nervous subconscious could argue the point, he strode purposefully up to the door and rang the bell.

Nggh. Wasn't that always the way... first she couldn't get the damn pen to write, and now that the ink was finally flowing, the doorbell rings!

Fine.

Sosiqui put her things down on the coffee table and stood up, Riven watching her. Biome trundled part of the way out of the kitchen, cleaning rags dangling from the Fandangle's claws. "What? Haven't you ever seen somebody get up before?" she muttered.

Riven shrugged.

"Honestly." She opened the door. "Uh, can I help you? If you're selling something, we don't want any," she added. It was obvious that she didn't know the young man standing on her doorstep at all.

((*returns from answering the door and cracks up laughing... it was a door-to-door salesman, no joke*))

Carda always made a point of not staring at the door while he waited for the occupant of the house to answer. He always felt it was rude. After all, the owner of the door wasn't obligated to answer just because you're standing there.

He turned when he heard the door open. He stopped short for a moment when he made eye contact.

Those same eyes. The same face.

Yes, he was definitely in the right place.

"Um, hi..." he stammered. Great introduction, genius; why don't you just hang a sign around your neck reading "I'm a geek and a klutz"? Get her to talk to you! You've got a cover story for why you're here, right?

"I'm with the, uh, Barton Times, and I'm doing a, um, human interest piece for the Sunday edition on, uh, New Year's Resolutions..." Carda grinned lopsidedly. "Can I come in?"

She can't possibly be buying this lame act, Carda thought desperately.

Sosiqui's eyes narrowed. "I don't make resolutions, because I'm bad at keeping them," she said, shortly, not moving from the doorway. "We don't have much to talk about, I'm afraid."

Just then, Biome clattered up behind her, the twin armatures (each the size of a Great Dane) looking curiously at the visitor... though it was hard to read emotions in large, glittering biomechanical eyes. Heads tilted in unison before the legs rippled and the Fandangle backed off, the flowered cleaning cloths held in their foreclaws looking incongruous against their metal casing.

A grin twitched on Sosiqui's lips for a moment. "Is there anything else?"

((She's enjoying the 'oh, just in case it's a dangerous visitor - let's FREAK HIM OUT with the giant metal things! Yay!' thing. XD))

((Oh boy, now you've gone and done it. :-p ))

Carda froze as he stared at these two huge... THINGS that had just arrived at the door. At first his subconscious dismissed them as merely robotic in nature...

Until he made eye contact.

There was no way in heaven, hell, or anywhere in between that a robot had eyes that looked like THAT.

Carda opened his mouth to speak, but what came out was more of a strangled croak.

"I promised... this wouldn't... ever happen again..." he whispered just before he collapsed right where he stood.

Before anyone could react, he disappeared, leaving only his backpack and a strap of leather with something attached to it.

((He didn't go far; he just unintentionally teleported somewhere in the house, most likely. His headband is designed to suppress any major unconscious use of his magic.

Oh, and the strap of leather? That's "the" necklace.))

Sosiqui stumbled forward instinctively to catch the guy before he hit the dirt - salesman or whatever he was or not, she did have SOME compassion - only to blink as he dissappeared completely.

"What...?" She wasn't exactly unused to strange things like this happening, but it was just a little bit odd. Stranger that he left stuff behind. She knelt down to open the backpack.

"What are you doing?" Riven asked, floating up behind her. "That was strange."

"Checking for ID so I know who the hell that was, so I can give this back," she responded, opening the pack - and blinking as a few pens rolled out. Pens that looked exactly like the one she'd found in her pack, down to the odd marking.

Stranger and stranger still.

Then she pulled the leather strap out from under the backpack, and froze. There was a pendant, makeshift, dangling from it. Made of the tip of a unicorn's horn...

No. It wasn't ordinary. She could feel flickers of time magic clinging to it. Not much, and not active, but it was there, and it had a very particular feeling to it. Her own magical 'signature', in fact.

Her eyes narrowed.

((Gotta eat. Go wake up somewhere. XD; It's a small house. Back soon))
PostPosted: Fri Jan 14, 2005 6:32 pm

Carda woke up. For a moment he thought he was still at home. Then he remembered that he'd walked to Sosiqui's house, met her at the door, and--

Wait a second. Had he just had another suspension?

Carda looked around and found that he was... in a bathtub of all places.

Hadn't he been standing on the porch when he'd blacked out?

That meant one of two things. Either it had been a suspension, or this particular Sosi dumped people in the bathtub if they passed out.

Carda guessed it was the former.

Okay, so he'd blacked out from a suspension and likely wound up inadvertently teleporting himself into the bathroom. Now what?

Carda suddenly noticed the absence of his necklace, the one "his" Sosi had given to him as a gift before he and his sister had left for training.

"Now what could have happened to that?" Carda wondered aloud.

((Note that Carda hasn't even bothered extricating himself from the location and position he's in yet.))

Sosiqui carefully compared her wand to the bit of unicorn horn. The horn had a hole through it, but other than that... it was the same width, had the same whorling on the side. Everything was the same other than a bit of extra wear and tear.

Of course, there was the obvious fact that her wand was whole, not broken.

Broken...

"Gods, don't tell me," Sosiqui muttered, slipping the wand into the holder at her side. First she'd met another version of herself, and if her hypothesis was right, this man had also met a part of her. And somehow gotten the horn-shard from her.

A gift? Or stolen? Even broken it in battle? Such things were possible... She sat down on the couch, the backpack still in her hands, forehead wrinkled in thought.

Meanwhile, Riven drifted down the hallway, heading for his room, when he heard an odd noise. Somebody talking?

... in the bathroom?

He mentally listed the denizens of the house that were both capable of speech and had a reason to go in the bathroom, and came up with nothing other than Sosi and Five... who were both out in the front of the house.

Hrm.

He knocked politely. "Who's in there?" he asked. Curious as he was, Sosiqui had at least taught him not to go barging into bathrooms.
PostPosted: Fri Jan 14, 2005 6:50 pm

Carda was startled half to death when the knock came at the bathroom door.

"Uhhhhh... Just a second!" he replied. Quickly scrambling out of the tub, he then reached over and flushed the toilet.

No sense being in here if he wasn't going to at least pretend that he had needed to use the facility.

"I can explain, really--" Carda began as he opened the door. Then he froze.

"Aw, crap, not again," he muttered as he once again passed out.

Meanwhile, about a mile away...

Seraphim, a little angel-like creature, was busily tending Carda's house while he was out running errands. Suddenly she paused and looked up at the ceiling. "What? He did what?!? Oh no I've gotta get over there as fast as I can!"

Seeing no other way out of the house, since she was too lightweight to handle any of the normal doors, the little angel skyrocketed up the chimney and streaked like a comet towards her charge, trails of light streaming behind her.

Riven blinked. "Mom..?"

"What? And don't play with the toilet, I know you don't ever use it," she muttered, walking up to him, the backpack slung over one shoulder.

"No, it wasn't me, and don't you think I'm a little old for flushing the toilet like a toy ANYWAY," Riven said, looking a bit insulted. "It was the man from the door."

"He disappeared-"

"I know, but I guess he appeared again in here. Then he disappeared again when he opened the door and saw me." Riven's nose wrinkled. "Why?"

"So, wait. Let me get this straight," Sosiqui closed her eyes and rubbed her temples. "This random person comes to the door, sees Biome, disappears and drops a fragment of my NOT-broken wand in the process, reappears to go to the bathroom and then re-disappears?"

"Um. I think so?" Riven said, cautiously.

"Just when I think I have a handle on 'normal' on Gaia, something else happens," Sosiqui groaned.

Well, wherever Carda had woken up this time, it was dark and cramped. And stuffy.

Carda felt around for a door or a light switch or something. Judging by the size of the space and the fact that he was surrounded by clothes, he guessed he was in a closet of some sort.

Now where the heck was that door?

Sosiqui ran one hand through her hair as she walked back into her bedroom and slung the stranger's backpack down on her bed. Whatever all that was about, it made her head hurt. Some things were bizzare even for Gaia.

"Slippers, slippers," she muttered, peering under her bed. "Nope, must be in the c-"

The door opened.

"Gah!!" Sosiqui jumped backwards, drawing her wand in an instant. "Who are you, what are you doing IN MY CLOSET, and don't you even THINK about disappearing without giving me an explanation, buddy!" She leveled her wand at him, the dagger-sharp unicorn horn pointed right at his throat - although she was still a good three feet away.

"Mom?" Riven's voice came from the hallway.

"Stay out," Sosiqui barked.
PostPosted: Fri Jan 14, 2005 7:16 pm

Carda didn't so much as twitch. He didn't even breathe.

"I can explain, I swear to God in heaven, I can explain. Please." He held his hands up in total surrender. His eyes flicked over to the backpack and necklace resting on the bed.

Strange. The necklace looked strangely similar to the wand or whatever it was pointed directly at him.

No, not similar. Practically identical.

Hmmm.

Okay, Carda, FOCUS. She looks about ready to kill you. No sudden moves or she'll blast your head off.

Before Carda knew what was happening a flash of light burst into the room and Seraphim was suddenly there, hovering between him and the wand.

She looked a little dirty. Must have left the house through the chimney again.

"Don't hurt him whatever you do please he can explain everything if you'll just give him a chance to tell you what's going on he's really a nice guy and all you just gotta hear what he has to say is all!"

Carda blinked. Wow. That was some fast talking, even by Seraphim's standards. He hoped the point had gotten across to the other side of the standoff.

Otherwise he might not have a head on his shoulders within the next five minutes.

Sosiqui blinked and stared owlishly at the little... angel-thing?

Well, at least that was somewhat normal. Many people in Gaia had companions. Although not many vanished and reappeared in random places in her house...

"Talk," she said, backing off and lowering her wand, although she kept it ready. Even though she had Aeina's prohibition against magic on her, the wand was still quite sharp, and she could still stab people with it if it came to that. "Riven, come here."

Obediently, the spirit Fa'e floated in, pushing the door open. His spear, Aeintor, was held in one hand; however, the look on his face was more of bemused curiosity than anything else.

Of course, the look on Sosiqui's face was still annoyance bordering on anger. "Now. Please talk. Especially about this." She reached back in one smooth movement and tossed the necklace at him.
