Quote: Ardanay has a rather substantial collection of the foliage around the island, but recently he's discovered a certain flower that he's heard of that he just can't find. He'd like one of the students to go on an adventure and retrieve said flower. While everyone else went to play in the snow, one student stayed behind.
It was a time to study. It would be good for him to be free of (certain blonde) distractions, to put all his effort into his work and get caught up on the subjects he'd missed when he'd been going through his difficult time. RuiZhi had HEAPS of research he had to catch up on, and it was during one of his excursions to an empty class room to gather materials that he noticed a flyer tacked on a corkboard in the hallway. It wasn't the flyer itself that caught his attention, but the immaculate handwriting and the name attached to it that made him stop.
Ardanay.
It was how he found himself in front of the Head's office, holding the flyer in his hand. What better time to look for an enigmatic flower than when there was no one else to get in the way or possibly trample what they need? The less people, the greater chance the flower had to survive and be found - between himself and the intelligent Head of Science, he felt good that they'd make some headway on finding this mysterious plant.
He knocked on the door, calling out in case the Professor was busy, "Professor Ardanay, it's RuiZhi. I have your flyer...did you still need help with that?"

It seemed that there was barely any time anymore. The professor scarcely found time to sit and prune his plants when another request for some or other came in through his door. What about this class? Or might you be able to help me? When letters, please letters, how letters, now letters. So many letters that Ardanay doubted his position for a moment. Was there really so much to do that people seemingly couldn't do a thing without him? Still, a small smile was forever etched across his features. He was a proud part of the school, forever interested in it's inner workings and keeping it afloat. After the accident last year and all that had happened, he considered this a lucky turn of events.
Soon though, he hoped he would be able to go and see his students. Teach them. Learn with them. Show them so much and more. There was much to be shown to such young ones, and there was only so much time before information became invaluable. With a sidelong glance to one of his precious plants as his pen lay poised above a paper awaiting his signature, he heard the first knock. His eyes glimmered a little, almost in amusement. More paperwork was it?
He looked up, glancing at the door, gray eyes rather alert for a moment as his serious face assessed the situation despite everything. Then the seriousness turned into a light-hearted and gentle grin. "Ah RuiZhi. Perfect, perfect, come right in!" Pushing himself away from his desk, he stood, folding his arms gently in anticipation. A little excursion wouldn't be a particular problem. Besides, the season for the flower would soon be over and then he'd have to wait a whole other year to harvest and cultivate the precious thing.

The teen stepped in as he was bid, brown eyes a touch wide as they rested on the Head's desk. That...was a lot of paperwork. RuiZhi blinked and glanced uncertainly to the Science Head that he had met only but once before. "Um, if you're busy..." he idly indicated the desk and the papers there. He certainly hoped that wasn't what the man had to deal with on a day to day basis...
...but if he did...
...then maybe this would be best that he push forward. Holding up the flyer, he approached Ardanay, a smile forming in the place of his bewildered expression. "I found this, but I don't know how long its been up. Since it's--" He paused. He wasn't sure saying since it's your request was a good idea, it might show favoritism. "--something I have some experience in, maybe I can help? And most of the students are off on that field trip," he added, the words clearly stating his disagreement with such things when there was work to be done, "we'd have a better shot at finding it."
When there weren't people to trample, destroy, pluck, get in the way or generally be a hinderance, it was a good thing. The Chinese youth wasn't sure when he became so cynical, but the thought made him smile all the same.

The Head of the Science Department watched the student closely with ever-so-keen eyes. The other was quite a studious lad, so he presumed, and he had always held it in his heart to assist all of his students regardless of any prior commitments to himself. And so of course, when this particular commitment involved himself most readily, he was more than delighted. A smile lit across his face, more genuine and gentle than any before: something he was famous for actually.
For a moment though it had seemed as though the other would not press forward. How wonderful he did!
"Ah yes, the field trip. Such a shame I could not accompany them, but there is work to be done and I cannot simply leave it all for an excursion to the far reaches of north," he replied thoughtfully, reaching out to take the flier and reread his own writing. "I'm so glad you've come though, I was beginning to become worried that no one would care to assist me. It really is a job for two people, and the season is almost over."
He paused a moment, turning to look at the paperwork that lay in wait for him. Frowning a little, he pushed some hair behind his ears, canted his head to the side and then turned back to RuiZhi. "It might be best to go now, before someone decides I have more paperwork to fill out. What do you say?"
