Name: Ranail Age: 16 Sex: Female (asexual) Craft: N/A Rank: Candidate Physical Description: A light-skinned, red head with some freckles and blue eyes. She keeps her hair cropped short and is pretty boy-shaped. She is neither comely nor homely, just average. Ranail does not like harsh sun, but adversely, is rather hardy come cold weather. Personality: Ranail is a bit of a loner, but is loyal to those who take the time to become her friends. She's a little spacey, but astute. Her mental disposition allows her the ability to stand back and analyze the situation. Ranail can generally spot a problem before another of her age group might, but is rather trusting and therefore can be easily tricked into embarrassing situations. Her honesty is something her superiors have found they can rely on. If she is given clear orders, she can carry out her tasks to satisfaction; on the other hand, if she misunderstands things can quickly become frusturating. She is sometimes overly blunt, but rarely means any harm. Ranail is not quite a leader, but she is capable of stepping up to the plate if no one else will. Her advise is generally sound, and a few of her more leaderly friends occasionally ask her council before attempting a risky task. Ranail is asexual. That is to say, she is un-sexual; not attracted to either gender. This was not a problem until she reached about 13. Her friends became interested in one (or both) sexes, but she did not. Her parents told her she was a 'late bloomer'. Four years later, they have to deal with the fact that she just isn't like other kids... maybe not like most other people in general. When it comes to her friends' love lives she mostly shrugs it off as 'their business'. She might feel the occasional pang of envy considering they get life companions and she won't, and she might get curious. She doesn't seem to identify with any specific gender either, though she's a bit on the masculine side. History: Ranail was born to a blue rider father and green rider mother. Both her parents wished to remain close to their daughter (and later, her brother) and so arranged for her to be fostered by her aunt, a Weyrworker. Ranial made it clear from an early age that she aspired to be a dragon rider. She and her brother had the potential to Impress, and are candidates. Her father regularly laments the fact that Ranail was born a girl, due to his belief that she could have been a bronze rider (though, this is due at least halfway to sentiment for his child). Both of her parents, however, agree that she would be a lousy gold rider. Pets: None Other/Talents: Literate, okay with basic sums, tough as nails Will this character be a candidate?: Yes Picture: N/A

Due to her fibro mialga, she would never be Searched. They don't take anyone who has any sort of physical ailment that could hold them back. They wouldn't take her due to her anxiety as well. That could lead to trouble in the wing, and dragons just know these things.
In addition, I'd like to see a little more in regards to her asexuality and how that effects her life, to justify it and what not, since it's more of a 'rare' trait. Thanks!

Her FM is currently being discussed, I think. Generalized anxiety isn't necessarily crippling. Come 'do or die' time, she would be no more anxious than any other rookie (which, admittedly, is probably pretty anxious XD). In day to day life however, it means she's constantly trying her darndest to make everything as perfect as possible to try and ease the worry. Also, her angst would be lessened by the fact that she was in a team, on a dragon, with a ground crew below. That's three nets, in her mind. So her thoughts would be along the lines of: "If I screw up, my dragon might catch it, my team mates might catch it, or the ground crew might catch it." Believe it or not, the busier you are, the harder it is to worry. When the thread start falling, Ranail's in the zone. The worst time for her will likely be a day or two before her first thread fall. Her asexuality means she's never been kissed, has never slept with anyone, has never had a date, and has had a max of two or three crushes in her entire life. Aside from the occasional joke at her expense, this doesn't have a huge impact day to day.

I talked with Lei, and she agreed that both the generalized anxiety disorder and the FM would make it impossible to be a dragonrider. And there must be some sort of impact on her life to be asexual. What does she think of her friends having crushes and various romantic interludes? What will she do when her dragon rises/chases?

If her dragon rises, I don't know. The other rider will have to find a 'substitute', I guess. What would she do? Uh, be confused XD?
