Escape! It was such a sweet feeling, and it made his head spin with the sensation of power. Not that it was any great feat to have escaped their babysitter, often they tormented him enough that he tried to ignore them. Today they had left behind the packlands with ease, tiny paws carrying them far in the cool weather. LSD glanced around and grinned as his sister followed.
"This place is new, lets keep going I smell something different..." His tiny nose twitched as the strange scent, soon he would learn this smell, for metal would be embedded in his mind forever.
Unknowingly LSD was leading himself and his sister right towards the large human encampment.

It was a wonderful feeling, this freedom! Lithium pranced next to her brother, her body stretching out as her paws ate the ground and left it behind them. Her tail was up and wagging. Oh, mother would have a cow if she found out...but the point was not for her to find out.
Sure, Rend would realize he'd been daydreaming and realize the pups were missing. Hell, he'd probably follow their track with his nose and scold them, but it never meant anything. He didn't mean it. Rend couldn't hurt a butterfly!
"Okay, brother!" she barked out, bumping him with her shoulder. Too trusting.

Ever closer to danger they moved, tiny pups with no idea of how much pain one of them was about to suffer. LSD grinned and nipped playfully at his sister as they moved along both content to be roaming free. Finally he paused and peered out, here the forest had turned sparse, the earth was gravelly and sandy. The condition of the forest did not concern him though it was the huge wooden fortress down below that made him gasp.
"Whoa! Lithi look at that! What do you think it is?" For a moment the fortress glowed green to him, poor LSD another one of his strange hallucinations was on the way. Lack of water normally brought them on, and they had walked a long time.

His teeth grabbed at her skin and pulled gently. Lithium bounced to the side, snapping her own jaws at him and freeing herself before moving to headbutt him-- but she didn't get that far. LSD put on the brakes and Lithium's paws stopped moving. She stood, uncertain, looking down at the strange buildings.
"Aliens," she said solemnly. Sure, she was almost a teen, but it didn't mean she couldn't believe in Outer Space! She didn't know of her brother's hallucinations; she only knew that it was common for him to see a special green butterfly. Mum loved him anyway. "Should we...get closer?" Her stomach gave a flip.

LSD swayed a moment before suddenly looking up, there it was, his tormentor! The green butterfly swirled around his head before floating slowly down towards the 'aliens' as Lithium had named them.
"Yeah! lets go, it's back...and it's going down to them. Besides we'll be back before uncle Rend can miss us." As LSD leapt after the green butterfly he failed to notice that the sand was swept over sharp metal, in a clever disguise.
An older wolf might have realized danger was near, but the pups seemed oblivious.

She watched him sway on his paws, his muzzle aimed towards something invisible to his sister. Lithium strained her eyes, knowing exactly what it was he was seeing but unable to see it for herself.
She gave a soft squeak of excitement when LSD told her they were going on, but she bit her tongue when he began to follow the butterfly.
"Brother! Brother, come on. We can't get -too- close! They'll abduct you!" Her voice wavered and she slowly followed him, unaware that his happy outlook on life and butterflies would soon be clouded in agony.

"I have to catch it Lithi!" He yelled back up to her, his paw grazed metal and suddenly it snapped up. Vicious steel jaws closed around nothing but air, still the sound and sudden movement had startled the young male.
"Whoa!" He leapt back away from it only to set off another behind him, with a jerk he turned now the butterfly fluttering madly in front of his face.
Suddenly he stepped back, this proved the fatal error. The metal snapped again, but this time not on the air. LSD gave a sharp sudden cry, a gasp of agony as the metal snapped into his bone. His small back leg was caught within the contraption, from thigh to the tip of his toes.
"HALP!" He cried out in agony his whimpering and yells unending, the pain gathering force.

Of course he had to catch it! She gave a bark of warning, but loped after him. She was only paces behind when the first trap snapped shut with a wicked CRACK! She gave a squeal, backing away. "LSD!" she cried out, but it was too late.
His cry lit the air, pain filling his voice. The angry-looking alien had its jaws clamped around one of LSD's back legs. The sharp scent of blood bit her nostrils and she gave a worried whine. Her jaws closed around the metal encasing her brother's leg, but when she pulled at it, her gums bled and blood from his leg spattered her face. "LSD... Y-You're stuck! It's a trap, brother!" Her voice was tight, shrill.

LSD scrambled and tugged only worsening things, but desperate to escape the steel contraption. His paws dug into the sandy earth and he struggled with three legs to pull himself free.
"Lithium!" He screamed in agony, it was supposed to be a plea to go find help, but so many words he could not form them in his pain filled mind. He twisted his small body back and forth left and right trying to find escape.

As he struggled, her voice rose up in screams. What was she supposed to do? There was blood everywhere... It coated his leg and the metal jaws and the ground and...Oh god, oh god! She threw her head back and cried, circling him and baying to no one. Begging for help. Who was she supposed to go to? What could she do? Her claws dug at the metal chain in the ground, digging at the contraption til her pads were bruised. "I-I-I CAN'T!" she bawled, hunkering down and shaking violently.
The aliens were going to come and take them away...
Across the field, Rend's ears pricked up at the pained sound. His puppies! Oh, God! What had happened? With a howl of distress, he jolted forwards into a dead run, trying to find them. "Lithium?! LSD?!" Just as the names left his maw, he caught sight of them.
LSD was struggling wildly against a bear trap and Lithium was watching in horror. Oh no...
"LSD! Calm down!" He was at the pink pup's side in a matter of moments, his jaws clamping down around LSD's scruff to try and hold him still.

LSD was in a full blown panic now, if his sister could do nothing then he was doomed. He struggled, weaker now from blood loss. "Run Lithi..." He murmured.
He scrambled against the earth, his tiny paws still trying, muscle, flesh, bone all ripped from his back leg. He looked up stunned to see Rend, was this another hallucination? He whimpered and slowly sank into darkness.

Lithium's heart went out to her brother, her tail pinned between her thighs. She was shocked, joy overwhemling her when Rend appeared at LSD's side, trying to calm the now-unconscious puppy. "I-I-Is he gonna be okay?" she hiccuped, her face still bloody with LSD's blood. LSD quit moving. She let out another strangled whine.
Rend's heart pounded heavily. His jaws opened, letting the pink pup slump to the ground. s**t. s**t. s**t. "Lithi. I need you to listen to me. Listen carefully, okay? You need to go back home. Find Adolfo, the shaman. You need to find him and bring him back here, okay? Your brother's life is on the line." His voice was grim, worried.
Lithi's jaw dropped. Find Adolfo? Possum's dad? She could do that... But LSD... She whined again, then licked Uncle Rend's muzzle and took off at a dead run in the opposite direction, tears welling up and threatening to spill down her cheeks. Oh god...
As soon as the pup was gone, he looked down at LSD's fallen form. His stomach twisted in pain and sickness. His jaws clamped around the metal teeth and jerked. They squeaked, but didn't budge. Panic rising, he closed his jaws around LSD's leg and began to yank. Flesh shredded as it slid free, blood leaking out around the white of his bones.

LSD's eyes popped open at the sudden wrentching pain, he could feel his back leg flailing yet when his eyes traveled down his leg was not there. He gasped in pain and stared in horror, in his minds eye he could see his leg there, whole and glowing green.
The truth was the limb was lost, with luck Adolfo would come in time to keep the pup from sliding into shock or dying of blood loss. No power could restore that leg though, even now it stood crookedly morbid within steel jaws, no tiny body attached.

The wolf that lived in and controlled the shadows was out with his daughter Isadora, she had insisted on her father teaching her some roots and how to properly dig them out, along with use them.
Isadora looked at her father, her blue eyes just shinning with a brilliance that could only show the determination of following in her mentor's steps. He saw the same look in her twin's eyes when Debora sat at the mouth of her mother's skin cave.
"Dad, is this the...ummm..." her face scrunched up as Isadora concentrated on remembering the name of the root, Adolfo was amused with the pensiveness in his daughter's face.
However, the shadows started to chatter about human metal and blood. His eyes narrowed and his ears swiveled to the other voices. Turning his head, the ebony and ivory male stood up and looked at the dense shadows swirling around the base of the trees.
The teeth of metal is taking another. They told him, some laughed while some of the shadows seemed to be saddened. A bright puppy is in the jaws of death. And they hissed as something obvious just as bright was running through them.
Adolfo turned his emerald eyes to his daughter, "I'm sorry Isa, something isn't right. Your lesson will have to be put on hold. Umm, go find your mother, brothers and sisters. I'll be back."
"Dad?" she squeaked, "Does someone need healing help? I can come."
The offer was sweet, but he wasn't for sure what was all going on. Just something about a bright puppy in need of healing for being caught in metal jaws. "I think it is near the humans, I don't want you near them. Besides, don't want to worry your mother, so will you please tell her. I'll be back."
The teen pouted but gave a nod nonetheless, "Sure."
"Thank you, Isa." He reached back to nuzzle her, she leaned away slightly, but Adolfo grazed her cheek with his nose and slipped off into the swirling shadows. They hissed louder as he was getting closer to the moving bright spot in the dark woods, and as the other bright one was getting closer to him.
