Roaming eyes took in the lobby area the moment the couple walked into the clinic. It looked, like a typical enough for a modern clinic, floors were clean, things were white and there was that faint smell of disinfective. The couple that stood near the entrance in which they had entered looked as different as night and day. One was short, slim, and the other was tall and well built; one was indifferent to this place and the other was well... nervous.

Donovan Lau looked down as he felt his arm being squeezed, he personally didn't want to be here. The clinic had been under the recommedation of his cousin Dai, he could still remember the very loud debate they had about the matter. Well he did, Kara went for it even though she was the nervous one.

Nervous might have been an understatement, her eyes were so wide they look like they might come out of her head. This place was intimdating with it's white coated people and it's very clean floors. She was having her husband's arm in a near death grip.

"You know, we don't have to if you don't want to," Donovan murmured in a gentle way not known to his working peers.
"But we want this to go right... right? And Dai said, they have mixed couples all the time, and that's the most important part."

Ah yes that... he thought as his eyes drifted to her twitching large wings, wrapped around her they could be mistaken for a cloak if one wasn't awake enough to notice they were attached to her. This was the main reason they sought out the clinic, they weren't stupid after all. They had two things going against them being a mixed couple, one was the chance of having a child (the more physical differences the less likely) and two, there could be complications.

"You know Yukito could look after us," he pointed out.

Kara gave her husband a look, "Yukito is a wonderful boy Donovan, but... he comes from a vase, pregnacy isn't going to be his strong point."

So did the majority of their 'children' so far, despite the fact she and he alone and together have raised a hell of a lot of children, they had no idea what they were doing with this whole let's have a natural baby thing.

"Besides..." Kara added breaking into Donovan's thoughts, "Dai went through the trouble of getting us this appointment, it would be rude to not go through it now."
"Oh yea, that thing called manners... well then let's go," Donovan snorted thinking his cousin could go to hell anyhow as he led Kara towards the desk.

Selma was once again, highly uninterested. As the couple stepped up to the desk, she barely glanced at them over the edge of her magazine containing the latest gossip and waved them to a seat. "The doctor will be with you shortly," she recited her default greeting in her monotone drawl.

It didn't take long at all. Dr. Ronchas had been expecting this couple. He emerged shortly from the hallway and with bright eyes went straight for the couple before they could even find a seat. "Hello there," he grinned widely, offering his hand to the man for a handshake. "I understand you're interested in children. I do love children."

Nurse Violet followed him shortly after, watching his every move with her dreamy gaze. "Oh me too," she assured them, and probably him as well.

Donovan shook Dr. Ronchas' hand, all the while casting a wary eye on the pair. He wasn't quite sure how these clinics worked, but he was pretty sure when a doctor says they love children that was a good sign.

Right?

Okay he was going to admit, the whole line creeped him out just a tad bit.

Fortunately Kara was there to save his a** (socially speaking that is). She smiled brightly at the pair before nodding.

She giggled softly, "So do we, in fact we do have several children, but Donovan and I of course being here are interested in having blood children, and this would be our first planned try at it."

"That is wonderful! Truly wonderful," Ronchas exclaimed, clasping his hands together. "I'm sure you have questions, plenty of questions." He walked to the door behind Selma's desk and waved at the couple. "Please follow me to the office. Nurse Violet?"

She nodded at him, already knowing what he was going to ask of her. "Y-yes sir," she turned back toward the hallway they had come from, nearly tripping over the side of Selma's desk.

Selma glared at her and Violet laughed nervously. "S-sorry, Selma." She nearly tripped again, walking backwards away from Selma, but managed to gain her feet and dash back to the hall and out of view.

"Now then," Ronchas led them to his office and closed the door. "You have questions." It was defiantly a statement, not a question.

The couple looked at each other, where would they start? They had heard things of course about the clinic, but they weren't quite sure where to start on this matter. Donovan sighed adjusting his glasses a bit before looking at Ronchas.

"What exactly does this... treatment do? We know that this clinic is to help Kara become pregnant, but that part was never made clear."

What he wasn't asking if there were any health risks, well at least not directly.

"Is it true it is always twins?"

Of course Kara would ask that, because twins carried their own risks, and really she found it curious. How could only make sure it was exactly and only twins? But that's where the clinic got its name wasn't it?

Ronchas had expected the risks question. "No risks involved, at least not anything forseeable. Can't rule out the unexpected, but not complications so far," he said, wagging his finger. He didn't rush, but he also didn't seem to need to breathe between sentences. "To say there's no danger in a pregnancy is juvenile," he laughed at his own joke. "And yes, always twins," he clapped his hands together joyfully at the thought. "It was an unexpected side effect, but such a pleasant one. The serum does it's job so well we've never had less than two children born to a mother." He paused. "Or father for that matter," he looked at Donovan. "You know we can arrange for your husband here to carry the child if you choose ma'am," he said with a grin.

Donovan choked at that, with an utter look of bewilderment crossing his face. Him? Pregnant? The doctor wasn't serious! Well then again anything was possible in Gaia, in which to say the doctor probably was serious.

The snickering of his wife snapped him out of his shock and he gave her a look. He was open minded to a lot of things, being pregnant wasn't one of them.

Kara chuckled and patted Donovan's arm reassuredly that she wasn't going to make him carry the children.

"As interesting as the offer is, I'm afraid pregnancy would be an occupational hazard for him," she chuckled some more, "Besides the treatment, the other reason why we wished for a clinic was for the fact we were told that you like to keep an eye on the children's development? I'm a bit curious about that, ah..."

She looked back up at Donovan for a moment before looking at Ronchas.

"You see as common as mixed couples like us are, there is always complications in mixing races. So the fact that you are willing to continue to see the children even after the birth interests me."

Ronchas puffed up his chest. "Ma'am, I pride myself in my work, and I want to make sure that absolutely everything goes smoothly for the parents and children both." He indicated the plaques along his walls. "You'll see, I'm qualified as a pediatrition and adult doctor as well as a developmental research scientist and I have dozens of special certifications including special care for hybrid-species children." He walked along his wall as he spoke, very professionally, which was a stark contrast from before, then he returned to the couple, easing back into his casual demeanor. "I even have a degree in psychology."

Ronchas was more than qualified to do the work he did, and that was apparent.

There was a knock on the door and Nurse Violet let herself in, placing some documents on the desk. She waved before she left the room, almost forgetting to open the door before she left. "Ooops," she laughed nervously, rubbing her nose. "Clumsy me."

Ronchas didn't even look at her while she was in the room. Instead he looked like he almost discovered the documents there on the desk himself. Picking them up, he flipped through them, making sure everything was there. "In order to make the process as smooth as possible," he noted as he thumbed through the pages. "I'll need information on your family's medical history. This is, of course, all confidential and will never be seen by anyone outside this office."

"Of course," Kara mused.

All the while she noted that Donovan was studying the plaques. She had to giggle at his paranoid behaviour but it seemed Dai had once again struck it right.

And Donovan hated to admit that aloud, but everything did seem like it was going to be alright. Indeed, the doctor seemed to have everything needed to have the process go smoothly from point A to point B.

"Ah yes..." he murmured pushing his glasses up his nose.

More out of habit than anything else as he reached into his long coat and pulled out a series of papers. One was done by Dai, because Dai was for his clan where he came from and the other was from Yukito who of course looked after Kara's clan.

"Here, though we only have race information on Kara."

"I was adopted," Kara explained softly, "My adopted parents were human, and... I'm afraid I know little about my mother."

And literary knew nothing about her father.

"Oh my my my, I see you've come prepared!" Ronchas squealed. "I like that in a person," he took the papers and skimmed over them. "And I'm sure I can piece things together just fine," he assured Kara. "I just need to be aware of any conditions you're aware of, for insurance purposes. It's never been an issue before."

He moved back to his own small stack of papers and after careful consideration of each page, put a line through all the fields they wouldn't have to fill out for him. The process took a few moments, which he passed in complete silence.

"There you go," he said finally, handing the papers to Donovan. "That makes it so much easier for you two." All that was left was a tiny bit of insurance information, contact information and a few things to sign.

He took the papers and peered down at them, they looked to be the usual sort of thing he thought as he rummaged around for a pen. Donovan heard a soft audible click, and glancing to the side saw his wife holding out the pen she fished out of his front pocket.

"Seems straight forward enough," Donovan murmured to Ronchas.

Now where did he put his clipboard for writing.

Kara coughed, and tapped something on his thigh.

He looked and saw her holding his clipboard, "There it is," he murmured taking it from her so he could place the papers on it and start writing, "I wondered where it went to."

"Where do you keep all that stuff?" Kara inquired, "You have a lot of pockets, but pockets can only hold so much."

"So says the woman who likes to have endless bags," Donovan replied absently checking off a few boxes, "I think wing sprouting is a condition," he scribbled something down.

"It's a normal process in the life of my people."

"So says the woman who fledged over a decade late.... and Kara we're installing a phone into the main house, we can't keep using my cellphone as a contact number. Hmm... maybe I'll put Lin's phone number down as a secondary number."

"What about emergency number? Your mother's number?"

"Hell no, not my mother, and my old man is more likely to accidently burn something down," Donovan grumbled about that, "I'll put down Yuki... wait.. Yukito doesn't have a phone number."

He paused and tapped his pen on his lip.

"Neither does Triton or Yue... Miyu still lives at home which means no... Feng and Ryu live in water so of course no... that's it we're having phones installed on the entire grounds."

"Kali has a phone number, two if I recall correctly," Kara replied softly, "Put her name down and she lives in the main house so she can get a hold of everyone quickly if anything happens."

He gave his signature in the proper places before handing clipboard and pen over to Kara for her to sign in her proper places.

It was quiet wtih only the sounds of the pen scribbling across paper.

"There," Kara smiled happily as she unclipped the papers from the board handing both back to Donovan, before handing the papers back to Ronchas.

She eyed him as she watched the objects in question disappear into his long coat. The children always wondered how he could move quickly in it... much less how he put things into it... or why it was not yet ruined beyond repair.

Well actually the last part Kara knew that Donovan had several coats like that.

Ronchas took the papers handed to him and looked over them one final time. "Just a moment while I go get the serum for you," he said, sounding a little excited. "Don't worry, it's a completely painless shot and it will guarantee a fully integrated pregnancy."

He ducked out the door and left the couple alone for a while.

"That was oddly easy," Donovan murmured thoughtfully, "Though it could be making up for the fact this pregnancy is not going to be easy. I hate firsts..."

It was somewhat a joke with them ever since they began doing a lot of firsts together.

Kara chuckled, "It'll be fine Donovan.... everyone has had to go through this sometime."

He scratched his cheek, "You do realize by becoming pregnant you are going to traumatize your co-worker. Tracy I recall has an utter phobia of pregnant women."

He chuckled and sort of looked forward to that, but he didn't like Tracy all that much.

"Be nice, I'm sure his phobia isn't that bad..." Kara murmured.

Ronchas returned, shot in hand, needle still capped for sanitary purposes. "Are you ready?" he asked. "Like I said, no pain at all," he said with a nod, setting the shot down and opening a drawer for a sanitary wipe.

Kara eyed the needle, she had grown up lucky where she never had many needles growing up, but she reminded herself this was for the baby.. or rather babies.

"Ready," she murmured as she took a seat.

Donovan held onto her shoulder, knowing how much these doctors made her nervous.
