She could hear her mother's distressed calls as she took off, hear the worry and the sadness in her voice. And yet she could not bring herself to turn around and return to her. When was her mother going to realise that she wasn't a cub anymore? That in fact she was all but an adult? She was calling as if she'd lost her newly weaned baby, not a teenager who was quite capable of taking care of herself.
Aryiola pressed on, away from the family den and across the plains where she could breathe a little easier - away from the suffocation of family. She loved them, yes, but that didn't mean she wanted to spend every waking moment with them. A girl needed to breathe!
She slowed, finally, at the edge of the plain and slipped into the sparse undergrowth, pausing to scent the air and check to make sure that she was truly alone. The air was filled with many unusual scents but it didn't put her off. Maybe she'd find a nice soft place to curl up and sleep for a while. At least here it would be peaceful.
So, with a purr, the elegant, slender young lioness slipped into the vegetation and sought out a place to rest for a while.

Hadaya yawned. It was a big one, and he nearly toppled over sideways as he leaned his head back to accommodate his stretching jaw. Shaking his head and heaving a tremendous sigh, he tried to get his sleepy muscles moving. They were slow to respond to his commands, his limbs flopping uselessly and his body remaining rooted comfortably to the floor.
Just a few more minutes wouldn't hurt.
He rolled onto his back, his body complying to this because it was a more comfortable position and encouraged more lazing around. If he had tried to stand again his muscles would have been less cooperative. Tail curling in the grass, he lulled back and forth. It was a very comfortable little spot, hidden in the trees and bushes, and he imagined he could waste days there, just napping and being lazy. Or at least until he got hungry.
His ears twitched as he picked up on the sound of movement nearby, but his sleepy mind purposefully ignored them. He was too comfortable to be paranoid right now. Sticks and leaves were clinging to his mane, but that was just one more thing he didn't care about. Humming to himself, the sound a bit off tune, he smiled goofily and sighed.
This was something he could get used to.

She froze, her body rigid with surprise. What was that sound she could hear? Was it humming?! It certainly wasn't a bird, but then what was it? A creature who thought it was a bird, perhaps? She turned her head slowly, whiskers quivering and eyes wide. She scanend the foliage but after a moment found the direction in which it was coming from.
She moved towards it, slowly, one step at a time. It was as if she was drawn, being pulled forwards against her will.
And then the undergrowth parted and the humming creature was revealed. A lion. An adult lion lazing the day away, just as she had planned on doing. Well now, at least this one had sense. Why waste energy trying to track prey that wasn't there?
She sidled closer and cleared her throat. "So here's the humming bird that drew me from my path."

Hadaya was wiggling his paw in time to his stupid little song, wrapped up in how much fun it was just to be making a song up and not paying attention to the sounds around him. So he didn't hear the foliage shifting, and missed the lithe form that slipped out of the brush. He hit a particularly high, and completely out of his range, note just before a voice broke into his song.
He choked on his note and reflexively curled into himself. It usually worked when he was on his feet. He usually dropped to the ground and hid himself in the grasses that often matched his fur, but this position did not lend itself to maneuver. He was just laying on his back with his paws pulled up to him. Throwing himself sideways, he righted himself and straightened, eying the new arrival carefully.
Clearing his throat, he did his best to look utterly cool and collected. His particularly fluffy mane and the sticks and leaves that were sticking in it did little to help him.
"I'm sorry, was I too loud? I was just... you know... being... uh... bored. Sorry about that," he said, his words coming a bit too fast punctuated by odd pauses. He shook his head, "I didn't know anyone was around and I would have kept it to myself if I had. I uh... I'm sorry."

She smiled as she watched him, wondering what he was doing and thinking that boys were very odd creatures indeed. She didn't think she'd ever understand them...or want to for that matter! What on earth did he look like with that odd expression and those leaves and twigs peppering his mane.
She giggled, despite herself.
"Seriously, Kitten, don't worry about it. I was just curious, that's all." Her eyes glittered with amusement. "You are an odd one." The grey female took a step closer and lowered her head a little. "Bored? Well, if you're bored you could always find something to do or someone to talk to." She purred.
"So, what's your name? I'm Aryiola."

Kitten? The fluffy adult frowned. He was a bit sensitive about his relative size and how he had grown. For most of his life he had to deal with the worry of never growing a mane, which he had considered a very real threat, until a sudden growth spurt put him at ease. Still, he wasn't the biggest lion, though his long, lanky limbs helped make up for what his lithe frame lacked in bulk.
"I"m uh..." he chuckled despite himself, a nervous reaction. Odd wasn't the worst thing he had ever been called, that was for sure. In fact, he was getting pretty used to that conception by now. It was pretty much right on the money. He drew a breath and looked at her again.
Head tilted to one side, he offered a warm smile, "I'm Hadaya. Aryiola is a pretty name." It wasn't so much a comment as it was a thought his mind failed to reign in before it tripped its way out of his mouth. He didn't seem to notice. "Well, I was napping, or... relaxing. I wasn't really sleeping, but... yeah. Boring. Uh. What were you out doing?"

"Hadaya." She repeated smoothly, giving a delighted little chirp at his compliment. People did like her name, they always said they did, anyway. She'd never considered that they might be lying, or making it up to manipulate her. The flattery went a long way with the fortune-teller-to-be.
She laughed pleasantly. "What was I doing? Lookign to do the exact same thing, if I'm going to be honest with you. I was looking for some peace and quiet, to get away from my...well, the rest of my troupe. Not a pride, just some travellers. Family, I guess." She shrugged, somehow she didn't want to admit to still being with her mother. It didn't sound very grown up.
"However, now that I've met you, maybe relaxing in peace and quiet isn't the thing I want to do now." Her eyes sparkled with delight. "What do you say, Hadaya, want to do something fun?"

"You don't have to be honest with me," Hadaya hummed, looking silly, as he caught her phrasing. He noticed that a lot of people used phrases like that, and he never knew exactly what they meant. So he liked to bring them back into conversation. Though, most of the time if backfired on him and he got some sarcasm thrown his way. He wasn't the best at sarcasm.
"A group of travelers? I'm a member of a pride that's just that. Wanderers and the like. I'm a traveler, too," he smiled, flicking his tail. He had never known his family, so he liked to hear of others finding non-blood related family out there. Like he had. It was just a hopeful little sign he liked seeing.
He tilted his head at her. Something fun? Well. It sounded interesting. He doubted he would be able to go back to sleep now, and he was excited.
"Fun? Sounds fun! Er. Well. I mean. Of course it does. Wait. What do you have in mind? That... I should have probably asked that first..."

"I don't. But I will. That's just the kind of cat I am." She blinked and smiled across at him, liking the way he spoke, liked the way he acted. What a cutie!
"Two of a kind, then, it seems. What fun. What luck! Two interesting cats, travelling in this world, happening to meet up because we were both bored." She laughed quietly. "Do you believe in fate, Hadaya, because I do. Very much so."
And then he was agreeing and questioning a second later. "Too late!" She pounced towards him, pulling short. "You've agreed now. But don't worry, it won't be anything awful. I like you, Hadaya. You're cute. I like cute guys." She leaned forwards to rub her face against him.
"If you want to know, then follow me and I'll show you."

Hadaya swallowed hard, eyebrows furrowing across his broad forehead. His fluffy, leaf and twig riddled mane bristled a bit, just out of nervousness. It was a clear indication that the skin underneath his fur was getting goose bumps.
"It does seem like we were supposed to bump into each other," he concurred thoughtfully, nodding as his eyes grew a bit distance, his mind wrapping itself around the idea for a moment. Easily distracted, he was brought from his concentration when she suddenly pounced at him. He recoiled a bit on impulse, lifting a paw in what could only be described as a very feminine gesture of surprise.
He was just lucky he didn't let out a yelp.
"I'm... cute?" He coughed, though he hadn't been eating or drinking. Apparently he was choking on a breath he had just taken, "I don't think-"
He was cut off as she rubbed him. Yeah. He forgot the language they were speaking at that point. Blinking, he nodded, just about ready to follow her where ever she wanted to go.
"Lead the way," he managed to eek out, his voice a bit high.

She giggled, amused at his antics. He was very different from her brothers, very, very different indeed! She trailed the giggle into a loud, contented purr and nodded.
"That's what I like to hear~" She chirped. "Yes, very, very cute." She smiled at him, wondering if he was always this awkward around girls. It certainly was endearing in an odd sort of way.
And she padded onwards, through the trees, unsure where she was leading him but not really caring all that much. "I bet you have girls just falling at your feet, don't you, Kitten? Especially with that cute little face of yours. If you like, I'll be your girlfriend, just for the day mind." She smiled and there was flirtacious meaning in that smile. "What do you say?"

Well, at least she was having fun! And he wasn't feeling too embarrassed for it, which was always a good thing. He smiled at her, purring simply because he heard her doing it and it subconsciously triggered his own rumbling. He was oddly fascinated by her, having very little experience with girls, much less ones that were so friendly and adventurous.
Plus, she wasn't mocking him. Or at least not openly. That was a good sign.
He padded after her, careful to watch where his big paws were going, so he didn't stumble or bump into anything. He knew himself well, and unless he was careful he was bound to do something stupid to ruin the moment.
"Girls falling...? No. Well. Except for when I crash into them or something. But I'm pretty sure that's not what you meant," he grinned despite himself, being perfectly serious. Then his mind seemed to digest what else she had said and he found himself grinding to a bit of a mental hault.
"A girlfriend for a day? Well. Uh," he blinked, tilting his fluffy head at her smile, "if you... want to have a big clutz like me as a boyfriend for a day... I don't see why not!"

(( Hadaya is just so cute!! x3 ))
She chuckled. "It seems to me like you don't have much confidence in yourself, Kitten. Why look at you! Cutest male I've ever seen! Okay so you're not the dark and mysterious type, but you have a real way of warming the heart, you know?" And for what it was worth, she wasn't lying. She did find him utterly adorable and she certainly wanted to spend time with him. However, she probably wasn't going about it the right way.
She gave a delighted little chirp at his reply to her offer and leaned in close to him. "That's what I like to hear. Darling, today I'll do my best to help you get your confidence - especially around girls. See, all we want is a bit of attention, really. Someone to listen and understand us and be there when we need them the most. Someone to stand at our side and fight for us. You know, all those little things."
Little? Yeah right...
"But, what matters most is that they keep us warm at night...if you catch my drift?" She eyed him, waiting on a response.

(Aw, I'm glad you think so! He's my absolute favorite to play. <3)
Hadaya grinned, feeling his skin burning beneath his fur. This definitely amounted to the most compliments he had ever received. Not just in one sitting, but probably the entire sum of his whole existence before this encounter. Maybe Sinasina and Apollo had offered some nice words, but they were his closest friends, and knew what a loser he could be.
Now he was worried he wouldn't be able to live up to all the ideas she had of him. Disappointment seemed to be hanging in the air.
But he couldn't really think about that, with her so close.
"Well..." he said, looking down at her with an arched eyebrow, "I... think so?" He didn't, but maybe she'd... give him some more hints.

"You think so?" She purred, her voice low and almost...challenging? What was that look in her eye? Was there a glint of something there that suggested the path her thoughts were leading him down.
She moved to brush against him again, purring without pause.
This boy was a sweetie. She liked him. He wasn't like other boys, he seemed clumsier, more innocent. This time she might get to lead, instead of the other way around. Finally she was beginning to feel grown up enough to take control of a situation! A flare of heat lit her chest and she smiled, gently.
"You don't sound sure, Hadaya dear. Don't worry, you'll be fine with me. I'll show you just what I mean and then, next time, you'll know for certain." Her eyes glazed a little. "But to show you we need some privacy and that's what I'm looking for now."
